myTouch Slide leaks from Radio Shack Direct2U system
What do we have here, then? According to an anonymous tipster, this is the first appearance of the rumored myTouch Slide -- the alleged and presumed successor to the G1 on T-Mobile -- in Radio Shack's (um, "The Shack's") Direct2U system. These things are always to be taken with a grain of salt, but really -- who would fake this? All we can say is that we sure hope that when the image does arrive ("soon") it looks a sight better than the pics we've already seen.

@Uncontrol
Correct you are. You win one pizza from 'The Hut'.
@New Reformation Did you get some of your places called "Pasta Hut" for a while, the UK did, that was weird.
Mr Blurry-cam has moved onto "Image coming soon" I didn't think he could provide less information.
@Uncontrol
there is Pizza Shack in Canada. I would love to see a little shack and hut strip mall.
@d0mth0ma5
But where would we be now without Mr. Blurrycam?
I really hope it looks better than those old shots, which look more outdated and childish than the G1 in my opinion.
My G1 deserves a heroes exit with a hero of a successor!
Snapdragon
512 RAM
Keyboard
AMOLED
Good looking
Let the G1 retire in peace T-mobile.
@Lubing The Tube
AMOLED?
Keep Dreaming lol
@mbg19
Why can't it have AMOLED? The Nexus One has an AMOLED.
I say unless they go for a Super AMOLED without this PenTile arrangement crap the Nexus One has, use a high end LCD.
The Nexus One's screen can't compare to tradition 800x480 LCDs.
The G1 although a bit long in the tooth can still run Eclair pretty well. You'd be surprised what a little hackery and Apps2SD along with a swap partition can do. Along with a Class 10 microSD card.
I got a G1 when it came out, and absolutely loved it! Its good to see a true successor coming out, it may replace my Nexus one when the time comes.
@B3astofthe3ast I also have the G1, and I loved it. My new Nexus came in 5 days ago, and as much as I loved the physical keyboard, there's no way i'm going back to Android 1.6 and 320x480 res :) the Nexus is just too good.
@B3astofthe3ast
Make it 3.7 inches and I'm in
Good times... An Android with a keyboard, keep pushing them out HTC.

OMG SRSLY ORLY!
To be a real successor, the performance and hardware bump must be gigantical.
I'm still rocking the G1, but would love to see a nice successor to it come out. In particular, I'd love to see some room for apps!!! That goes for all Android phones really. Yes I've got apps2sd installed, but it would be nice if it all just worked out of the box.
Hopefully the specs are better than reg mytouch and it packs 2.1.
I still think the G1's keyboard slider system is the coolest. I want an Nexus One with the G1's sliding mechanism and design(I know alot of people hate the design, but I like it's [ongoing] originality). Course ther'd be no search button. Maybe have it on the bottom face of the chin, mirroring (while having the same form) of the Menu key. 3.7 inches of course and really thin.

I'm gonna have to go with Xperia X1 for best sliding system. But anyway, I really can't wait for this... I hope it's got a better keyboard, because I didn't like how the trackball area got in the way of my right thumb.
Oh God!.......not another Android 1.6 phone. We have too many donut devices as it is.(hope it gets released with eclair (2.1)
@okubax: I thought 2.1 was Froyo? maybe I'm wrong..
@Prokanda: nevermind... 2.2 is rumored to be FroYo. you were right =\
My god, will the MyTouch please die?
It's a terrible phone with ridiculously outdated hardware.
Put a keyboard on the Nexus One, not the MyTouch for Christ's sake.
I have read many blogs about how much the G1 sucked. How bad it is and how old the operating system is etc. The G1 is the one that started it all just over a year ago, and it still runs circles around several operating systems even today. I believe that they did not use the full potential of the G1 as many have proved. I am glad to be ready about people who still like the G1 and appreciate it.
@racster I love the G1. My friend still has his and I played around with it before I got my Droid. Its just one of those phones that last. Its just awesome in every way. Only thing it needs is to be updated to the latest OS, it deserves it. Probably why many people ditched it...
@racster
A new G1 with updated hardware would be great.. Just call it G2 and be done with it.. Nexus One guts with a keyboard would be spectacular.
One of the things I loved about the G1 that I still loved over my N1 was the fact that I never felt like I was going to drop it, even without a case, it was easy to hold and use..
I feel like I'm going to drop my N1 constantly.. need a good case but then I'd lose my dock..
had a g1 for a year and sold it to my buddy for $125 and purchased the cliq for $125. The G1 in my opinion outperforms the cliq even. I had it rooted and my friend is still using it after a year and a half. Great all around phone.
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who loves his G1. I've had mine since it launched and it has been a trooper. It has survived the countless times I've dropped it, it still runs great, it has a better keyboard than any other Android phone I've ever held, and I still think the sliding mechanism is awesome.
The only complaint I have about it is that it is indeed getting long in the tooth. If I could get an update that largely kept the form factor and slider mechanism but upped the performance, resolution, etc., I'd snatch that up in a minute.
Please, please, please, please be $400 month-to-month. I want this soooo bad.
My friend works at RS and I saw this too.
I'm just gonna chime in with the fact the G1 was, in its own way, revolutionary. Not just because it was the first Android handset, but because of the bizarre yet lovable industrial design. Kind of paved the way for the variety of form factors we're seeing with Android phones now.
I'm hoping that with a newer version of Android, even with the older processor this phone probably has, the performance will be better than the G1/myTouch. If so I'll probably get this one while we wait for the nerdgasm-inducing N1-with-keyboard that's hopefully somewhere on the horizon.
I work and The Shack and our MyTouch's have gotten an orange tag for clearance. Shortly after we were instructed to send them back to T-Mobile. I asked the T-Mobile rep why this was. Her explanation was the corporate stores would keep selling them, but we would be getting the new version of the phone and needed to get rid of the old stock. It didn't seem like it was something secretive, she talked about it openly. So I thought I would share that tid bit.
