Eclair shocker! Android 2.1 leaked for Samsung Moment
Feeling impatient? Can't wait until Moment gets its Android 2.1 upgrade? The kids at SDX-Developers feel you, with one forum member providing a simple, straightforward download link to a 7z archive containing not one but two leaked builds: ECLAIR.DC23 and ECLAIR.DD03. According to the hub-bub, the latter seems to be giving people the most luck, although some are reporting a "faulty" Marketplace. That said, both builds do seem to work with voice and data. And yes, it will wipe your phone completely -- but if you're looking to get into this sort of action you're probably a risk-taker and a heart-breaker anyways. Good luck, and if you brick your phone don't blame us.

Awesome! I'll take it!
God bless the XDA forums (and all other similar forums)
@SolidSnake This was from SDX-Developers. Like XDA, but they actually work on the Moment.
Ha never thought id see sdx on engadget. Gratz numus. -IOWA
Goddammit Engadget, I saw the friggin' headline and got some wood. Then I read it's not the OFFICIAL Sprint Android 2.1 update. DAMMITTTTT!
C'mon Sprint....WTF?
@Dank Dillweed Sounds like it might not be far away for the official update.

@bickman2k
Thanks, now I'm only half-limp. I need a life.
@bickman2k I can't see that as being true, Sprint hasn't made any official announcement as far as I can find at the moment. If anybody was getting OTA updates (unlikely to be first in any case) we would have heard about that in some form no?
@ttringle I haven't seen anything either, but that page has been linked on Twitter a ton this morning. I put the leaked version on my phone with no problems. With the 2 versions being so close together, I think has to be closer than the end of the month.
good job google, 3543546847 versions of android for 5435468 different android phones.
sounds like a concept
@shizzledmg Why exactly would a post about a ROM leak of the official 2.1 update for another Android phone spur that post? That would make sense if this had instead said "2.1 not coming to the Moment".
@shizzledmg
Check the market share its a concept thats working.. Apple and Palm are already starting to fragment and they arent even open to other developers.. The only App store thats not fragmented is Zune and that wont last long either...
@shizzledmg Actually, Google plans to get all Android phone up to date so ll these different OS version aren't around. Its not completely their fault, you need the phone makers in it and up to the carrier to release it.
meanwhile, my Droid Eris sits here contemplating suicide.
@Gaucho85
By the Time I get "Eclair" everyone else is gonna have "Soggy Pop Tart" (3.6)
@Gaucho85
There is a 2.1 Rom for the Eris out:

@Gaucho85 LOL +1, I can almost feel your pain
@Gaucho85 Best Version Name Evah!
Donut disaster! Creampuff catastrophe!
Is the only thing common to all Android phones that they can all run every Android app? At some point, that stops though, right?
@MrAkash
There is already a massive amount of fragmentation in the android marketplace.
My HTC Hero is missing out on a load of apps due to it being stuck on 1.5
@smithey253 Interesting. I didn't realize that. So, what exactly is the point of Android? You know, besides being ugly and unable to run 3D games (yet).
WebOS ftw.
SHOCKER! DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNN.
All good though, I love to see the community come up with better ROMs than manufacturers.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I approve of this post.
All I can say is. WOOT!
I feel like tossing my hero out a window.
@One Love
Hro 2.1's coming before the end of the month supposedly. It's actually already been leaked too.
To everyone saying their missing out with the HTC hero.....grow a pair, root your phone, and install one of the numerous 2.1 roms from the xda-devs (flipz and damageless are gods)
manual root guide (what I did)--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581577
flipz auto rooter (not tested by me) --> http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-pre-kitchen-02/
@jtauke
agreed...running Damage right now and it's awesome. Not sure why all these people jump on a tech blog to bitch and complain...don't you follow a tech blog to be a bit...oh I don't know, tech savy?
Root already and taste the glory that is 2.1!
@jtauke
I'm using Flipz also, I'm probably going to keep using this or damagelss until the EVO comes out. F*ck Sprint at this point.
2.1 has also been rooted on the Moment already. Not sure if I want to wait for the official and root that, pop this on their and hope for the best, or wait for them to do some work on the "official 2.1" and use that.

Decisions, Decisions.
I have a feeling they're leaking these on purpose, so when they actually release it they'll fix everything that these users find.
@da1suk3
watch out, your on to them. dont let your alias become known! they'll come for your in your sleep!

Divx player?
Totally installed their custom version of 2.1. Easy as pie and best part of it is that it adds the option of live wallpapers. Totally. Rockin'. Badass.
I just installed DD03 and already have it rooted. SDX already has ways to get Live Wallpapers and the 3D Gallery running. Turns out that even with the update there's still no multi-touch. Looks like it just doesn't have the hardware for it.
Hey, if anyone with the Moment is reading this still, I am delighted to report that I flashed the 2.1 update (DD03) on my Moment and it works awesome. It is not perfect but it is 99% perfect. I fully expect the official release to be only slightly updated from this one. Some streaming apps don't work like Pandora, etc. The signal works, data works, performance is great and battery is as good if not much better. Best of all, BlueTooth actually works like it should and the whole phone operates more seamlessly like it should have to begin with. Cupcake should have been Beta software and this is a solid 1.0.
The actual update was super easy to do though you will need some techie knowledge but nothing that any solid user cannot figure out.
A few notes: GPS data is out of date so if/when you update, go outside and let it update properly. Updating Google Maps is a must. My Market purchases did not show up which was the biggest pain so back up apps before the flash or expect to contact vendors to get your license keys. Also expect some apps to not be in the updated Market too. Also, cycle the battery once or twice and restart the phone a few times. After the flash it does get warm and juice the battery fast so some processes are left behind. Battery has been good since I did this.
That's it folks. If you like your Moment now, you will love it so much more with 2.1!
[update] The streaming issue is fixed with a simple programming fix. Check out SDX-Developers website.
@CF542 nice, thanks for the info.
i just got off phone w/ sprint and have decided to wait for the actual release from them. i was told just a couple more weeks. i'm eager for an update but want to save myself the time and frustration. i'm very glad to hear that this is so near.
I can't believe how much better 2.1 DD03 is, which is a pre-release version, than the "release" version of 1.5, even post-CL14. I am left to wonder that perhaps Sprint really *is* stress-testing this sucker (all the nay-sayers and conspiracy theorists on Sprint's community forums notwithstanding).
