Verizon's HTC Incredible gets a user's manual
You can't buy an Incredible from Verizon just yet, but we're getting awfully close -- and in the meantime, you've got some exciting new reading material to pore over. It looks like the full, unabridged, seemingly final version of the phone's user's manual has just leaked over on Android Forums, and while there aren't any blockbuster revelations in here as far as we can tell, it confirms what we've long suspected: this is basically a CDMA Desire with an 8 megapixel camera. You've got the full Sense UI experience atop Android 2.1, a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED display, 1GHz Snapdragon, and an optical joystick -- a new trend out of HTC that looks destined to completely supplant the trackball, much as it has already done for RIM. Around back, we've got some confirmation that the Incredible is going to feature a positively bizarre contoured battery cover; it might not be your first choice, but honestly, you're not going to let that stop you from buying, now, are you?

If this comes out before the Nexus One becomes available - well, the Nexus One sales will likely remain "lack luster" as all the tech sites kindly put it. Whoever is at fault, be it Google or Big Red for the Nexus One delay, shame on you.
Now, bring on the Incredibles.
@whySoSerious
so its the INCREDIBLE for north america and
the DESIRE for europe. nice!
now why didn't u do that for the EVO htc????? so disappointing but at least north america does not have to wait this time round.
add jacks jealous heart here
@whySoSerious
The Nexus One is not meant to be a top-of-the-line phone, but a proof of concept and a standard. It represents the baseline for future "superphones". All other phones will be compared with the Nexus One (and of course the iPhone series).
@whySoSerious I couldn't possibly agree more. Nexus one is beautifully out of reach.
@whySoSerious So does the Incredible underclock the snapdragon? I have heard both ways, or do we not even know? The 8 MP camera would be nice and it looks to be a great alternative because it looks to me that a bunch of people would love to have sense on their N1's. If they underclocked the processor that would kinda be a shame, but I am sure they great folks over at XDA will come up with a great work around.
@angermeans
No and no and no it doesn't. As far as I've read you can't even order an underclocked Snap Dragon. Their available at the designed clock speed only. They do however vary their clock speed based on load. I think what caused the rumor was that there was a screen snap of an Incredible showing it's current clock speed which would be whatever the CPU had scaled to at that given moment and not it's actual peak operating speed.
@MacBandit
You can underclock Snapdragons. The Acer Liquid did it.
@whySoSerious Seems like there are some lack-luster posts about this phone.... how come? I thought this would be the premiere Android phone for Verizon when it comes out. No?? http://j.mp/incredible-by-htc
I wish T-Mobile would offer a top of the line Android phone through their normal retail channels. (Nexus One doesn't count)
Sigh...
@Hussain Rahim
Sounds to me like the Nexus One is the only thing that counts for T-Mo.
@Hussain Rahim im with you on this!! i have t-mo and im just over here praying to the phone gods that some how some way the htc desire comes to t-mo. its already on t-mo uk, why not t-mo usa??
by the way i type this as tears hit the keyboard.... GIVE ME A HIGH END ANDROID OS!!
@JUSTQUAN2 Did you not like the N1, or did you just want sense stock?
@Hussain Rahim
Meh Windows Phone 7 will come out and everyone will have one...
@Hussain Rahim Just get a N1. Buy the phone and save that money with a cheaper BYO plan from TMo. I wouldn't want to do that with another carrier since they don't offer a cheaper plan with an unsubsidized phone but with TMo it's great. I'll pay up front if it means less recurring.
Either way I'm going with Evo. Plans are just as cheap as TMo but with better 3G coverage and 4G in my city.
looking forward to reading this while I wait
Incredible!
Can't wait. fuck.
This looks good. The EVO looks better, but I have a premonition that the plans will be really expensive, what with the for me worthless 4G. What I really want is a big screen slate or HTC TP2 formfactor Palm WebOS device...
@iCello
And I want an i7 processor in a phone.
@iCello Just get the Evo, Sprint won't charge extra for 4G (but they will for tethering). And if you get the Everything Data Plus plan it is only $60 a month. http://bit.ly/xDblW
@cloud858rk I guess I should... But I don't know, I probably won't.
Are they going to release everything except the phone?
*facepalm*
@hated one lol your "iPhone" just got pwned tbqh
Without any further adieu...BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE, GO GET IT!!!!! :)
(BTW, its "ado")
Meh, I would rather VZW get the EVO 4g or the next iPhone.
Everything else just looks crappy in comparison to those two phones right now, and one of them doesn't even exist or have any leaked specs yet :)
Oh well.
@DoctarPeppar you dont even know what the next iphone will be how do you know everything else looks crappy in comparision?
@OMJ Yes, I was just going to ask the same question. The last couple years the rumors of the "next iPhone" have never actually been close. None have lived up to the hype so I'll believe this "iPhone HD" if I see it.
@OMJ
Don't know for sure, just assuming :)
Either way though the EVO owns the incredible on the android front.
@DoctarPeppar
How does the EVO "own" the Incredible? Larger screen and extra camera? How about 8gb of onboard MOVInand storage for your Apps? Is that "owned" by the EVO?
Hell yes. As soon as this is available the iPhone and AT&T are going to meet mr eBay
@cake97 You can sell your ATT plan on ebay? Hooray, now if I can just find some sucker to get it off my hands, but then I will still have to wait for the N1 to come out on Verizon.
@cake97 You can sell your ATT plan on ebay? Hooray, now if I can just find some sucker to get it off my hands, but then I will still have to wait for the N1 to come out on Verizon. By the way, I am just playing. I know what you meant.
Seems like there are some lack-luster posts about this phone.... how come? I thought this would be the premiere Android phone for Verizon when it comes out. No??
Except for the lack of a keyboard I think this would be my top pick... along with the Palm Pre Plus and it's awesome WiFi hotspot feature.
@hated one
the $49 iphone doesn't have a. video. camera. these are worlds apart, bud.
I'll get the EVO 4G instead, it's a better phone and Sprint is cheaper.
@reallynotnick Money is more expensive.
@One Love LOL +1
@reallynotnick
Won't you have to pay an extra fee for 4G?
@hated one
iPhones don't have early termination fees? Wow you really went out of your way to look like a douche.
i was going for the nexus one but for get that now. plus i finally learned how to root android over the weekend and i LOVE rooting now its awsome did a real nice full custom job to my eris....since im on verizon i would rather take the better CDMA hardware and root that to what ever i want.
1300 mah battery vs 1400 for the nexus one. Thats a bit of a concern. Everything else look sweet though. Well, that back us fugly.
I think the Incredible downclocks to 245 MHz when idle. That should help with battery life.
why, this is Incredible!!!
Tegra 2 Androids please..... HTC, you better be saving those for the iPhone HD season.
So how much physical memory does it come with? Does it have the same hindrance as the droid and nexus one, not allowing us to store apps on external memory?
About time!
Like many others, I've been waiting for this phone for a while. Glad to see it finally seems to be heading our way.
The backing looks like a measles rash. Why can't they just make the backing look like the HD2? HD2 is still the best looking HTC device out there.
I think I'll be buying finally. Was a long wait.
EVO is only on Sprint; no good in my area, so not even an option.
@inTECHrity I don't think 2.1 allows external storage of apps.
can you root it to get rid of sense UI?
