Dell Streak / Mini 5 makes a cameo appearance at MTV
It's been a while since we've heard much about the Dell Streak / Mini 5, but it seems like the plus-size phone (or mini-size tablet, whichever you prefer) went on a bit of an undercover media promotion tour last week: Viacom MTV exec Greg Clayman tweeted that it's "amazing," while Rob Enderle brought one to the set of John C. Dvorak's Cranky Geeks and said it would launch for around $300 on contract. What does it all mean? We're assuming it's being shown off in an effort to drum up some content partnerships: we've already heard about tie-ins with Amazon's MP3, video, and Kindle stores, and we'd bet that Dell's also going after newspapers, magazines, and video sites hard in an effort to push back at the iPad -- especially since the company is planning to bring out an entire "family of tablets" in the future. Or... it's nothing at all, and AT&T is going to completely wreck this thing before it launches, like it did with the Aero. Dreams or nightmares, the choice is yours.

I'd like to pick up one of these and a MiFi, but don't all the carriers force you to take a data plan, even if you buy the phone outright?
@hated one - get help.
That thing is big but its a sexy beast. Would like to play on it! :-)
Greets from Germany.
@xBulldozex Das ist was she said.
@Ducman69 Das ist war sie sagt.
@MarkProvanP
Actually,
Das ist was sie sagte.
That's what I get for forgetting all the german I learnt at school. :L
@MarkProvanP When you need somebody to translate, I can help you!
@MarkProvanP Das hatte ich doch absichtlich gemacht, Bordsteinschwalbe!
Wie sagt man das nochmal... ah ja, "VOOSH!" :D
*klicks boots, does 180, and valks avay*
@Ducman69 Du alte Sackratte!
Biste auch bei Areamobile unterwegs? Schreib mal was wenn dir langweilig ist!
Been waiting for Dell to release this for months now. What's taking so long ffs? Some companies have had their hands on these since the beginning of February. Stop with the secrecy and release it!!!
Why is the Aero so ugly and the Mini 5 so beautiful?
@bluefisch200 What exactly is beautiful about this?
And its NOT a tablet. Its 5 freakin inches. Its just 1.5" bigger than an iPod touch.
This is a giant "meh" and the market will respond accordingly.
What success Dell had besides computers and servers. I mean really.
@bluefisch200 Oh, and its too big for a phone.
Epic fail.
My biggest worry for Android is AT&T giving it a bad reputation.
What was Origami again?
WANT.
If this thing get's released before the new iPhone, I will become an early adopter. If not chances are I'll pick up the new iPhone. My iPhone 3g is on it's last leg, and I love having decent choices.
I think all android phones need some sort of dpad, trackball or other pinpointing device. It still does not have the precision or toolset to erally peck out a certain point of a sentence, for isntance, to edit. That is my experience anyway - using a G1 (which has a trackball), but I have been trying without one to get used to it, since some of these newer phones dont have one. Or maybe Im tarded.
@NewL
I can't believe he hasn't gotten an IP ban yet. He's already had like two other accounts.
@hated one Very trollish. Posting 3 times in a minute and even a failed copy and paste of your own post when replying to another comment.
First, it's cheaper than the iPad.
Second, it's more portable and pocket friendly.
Third, it's running an open environment, unlike Apple's locked down system
Fourth, It's a more necessary device than the iPad
Fifth, it's the largest phone that is pocket friendly
Sixth, it's cheaper than the iPad (I'm not counting the contract price because it'll be as much as the rest of the pack, $100/$300 smartphones out there).
Unrelated, since these actually aren't in the same category, I'm not sure why you brought up that point 3 times in a minute. What kind of troll are you?
I am in the market for s new smart phone, the iPhone is interesting but the screen is to small and low res for me (having to pinch-zoom everything sounds like a pain). The HDC HD2 is good but the OS is a dead end so no updates ie Winmo 7. The HTC Supersonic looks enticing but the Dell streak really has my salivating.
Is that an iPod USB connector?
Looks interesting. I'll like to play with one of these.
knowing about dimension would be nice,
and another question : it can be used with just 3G connections or its working with normal GSM bands ?
@hated one but the ipad is the first made by apple. those 500,000 have been saving up their money for the ipad since the very first tablet came out, knowing that apple would overcharge by 400% and they wouldnt be able to afford it after buying their apple laptop which was overpriced by 600%. apple abuses its customers, and they all just bend over and take it. isn't it wierd how apple can reduce the price of their macbook by $500 just bc microsoft made a commercial about the price difference? wow...
Why won't dell let me give them my money for this! Michael Dell! I'm speaking to you! I will be your delvangelist. Everyone will know I have a streak, where it comes from, and from whom to buy!
