Square Motorola Android slider leaks out, causes consternation
We swear we've seen a Motorola phone that looks like this odd square thing before, but it's also possible we're crazy. Either way, it looks like Moto's working on a new Blur set running Android 2.1, and if you thought screen size and resolution issues differences were a big part of Android fragmentation before, well, you ain't seen nothing yet. Oh, and as for the story that this pic came from a student who borrowed the phone from a friend whose dad works for Moto? We'd be more skeptical, except that's exactly how we've gotten other dead-on Moto leaks. So... yeah. Anyway, a square Moto slider running Blur. Does that do anything for anyone? No? Okay.

Never underestimate how stupid people are. No doubt this phone will sell well to the tween crowd.
Oh dear, MOTO...
Moto might down like palm if they don't stop making ugly hardware
so the took the nokia twist and made it a android slider...
What is uglier than a blackberry there ? (when slide is open)
Can you put words to express what you think ugly ?
The slider that is open on that picture ...
It surely looks like any other soap phone once closed (it looks like an iPhone clone then).
"ugly" ... are you crazy to use such a word talking about everything ?
This is an almost exact copy of the Motorola Motocubo A45 which is sold in Brazil.

They replaced the buttons for touch sensitive ones and the screen for a capacitive one (the A45 is not touchscreen).
I like the concept. It is a matter of taste, I guess. Some time soon someone will release a rounded phone and everybody will go "eww" while the device itself will probably sell fine.
I guess the Android Market will be pretty much useless to this device considering the size of the screen of this piece of crap.
One word.....UGLY! Even worse looking than the pictures of the Project Pink phones.
It's an Android version of the Motorola A45. That's the square phone it reminds you of.
@rbrome I was just thinking that.
What the fuck is it with these square phones? First the LG Lotus, then the Microsoft Pink "Turtle" leaks out, now this? I've had it with these "sliders you can't call portrait or landscape because it's too hard to tell". Ugh...
It looks like a cheap Chinese mock up of a Motorola phone. Just look at the screen quality.
Isn't that the Motocubo, or something like that, just in a different color?
Motorola and Palm, two companies that got a new lease on life last year but are still wrongheadedly determined to destroy themselves. I now think Motorola is just too stupid to save.
They blew it with this model unless they plan this for the upper crust of society. The more ridiculous looking the more they love it. Of course i don't happen to know any of the upper crust but I've seen "Lovey" Howell on Gilligans Island a few times. lol.
First of all it makes no sense to make all their phones like the Droid. They already have the Droid. However, if I were in charge at Moto I'd focus on 2 Android phones - Droid + touch only Droid. I'd then have one motoblur feature phone that was their version of MSFT's social media centric Project Pink.
That would be the line and focus on getting them on all networks.
well at least topolsky got what he wanted - android with vertical slider keyboard...
Motorola, why did you tease us into thinking you could design a phone that's worth a shit again with the Droid and then go back to designing these butt-ugly midget phones for 14 year old girls?
it looks like the ugly more ugly brother of the Back Flip.
Now there will always be disbelievers, but my friend has that phone. His father works at Motorola--Anyone want some pics?
i was really hoping motorola would pump out more "droid" type phones... guess not :/
Please! I really want one of these, but no reups till September. :(
I hope this is only a model that will never come out, Motor didn't you learn from the Razr.
Great, another screen configuration for an Android phone. What's that again about fragmentation not being a problem with Android?
Isn't that just a Cubo/Qubo, however it was spelled with Android on it?
What ever happened to the motoroi?!
looks like a test DEV phone, hopefully never sees public
It's disenprobably an uninformational preinterrepresentation of a desmallerized unobjectlessness.
Perhaps I'm missing something; what's wrong with positioning Android phones to different consumer segments. Why must every phone be a DROID clone? This phone looks like a strong competitor to all these text messaging phones you see out in the market.
@Hollywood It's because we are not seeing an even distribution of high end and low end phones. The Backflip has just been released, along with the Devour, and the Droid is simply aging, while another Backflip-esque phone comes out of nowhere. You can't see where our frustration comes from?
Only a face a mother could love. Haha RAZR, ROKR, SLVR, UGLYR.
wanna bet Motorola will be coming out with a ROUND phone!!
Some good observations and really nice comments. I really hope Motorola reads them and realize they have to drop their plan of ESQUARE phone and come up with a damn good expression of GOTCHA!!!
Shape reminds me of the Nokia 7705
