ASUS introduces EeeBox EB1007 with Pinetrail, without Ion
If you're looking for a nettop without all the fussy ability to play high definition content, ASUS's upcoming EeeBox EB1007 might be your ticket to standard-definition minimalism. According to Netbooked, the vanilla desktop was said at CeBIT to be HD-capable, but what we're seeing on the company's site doesn't appear to be, packing the new Intel Atom D410 processor, 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB of storage, three USB 2.0 ports, all topped off with 802.11b/g/n WiFi. No word on when it'll be available or how much it will cost when it does, but it should certainly slot in under the $387 EB1012.

Would it be too much to ask that this comes in under $200? I mean, there is no screen on the thing, and the specs are pretty darn bare-bone....
@tosvus I know right? Considering netbook prices and how nettops have alot less stuff.
@tosvus Could be great if you have the former eeebox eb1501. ehttp://bit.ly/asus-eeebox-eb1501
Not as useful if it doesn't have ion.
Hey Asus!
Stop it.
I just got a new PC from CyberpowerPC, Core i7-930, 9800GT, 6GB DDR3, and the rest for about 850. This PC will last me for years and i'll be able to do anything i want on it.
I really do not see a point of this super weak desktop.
@Sea Urchin
Because it's not a desktop.
@Sea Urchin
You trying to impress someone?

They told me its the best way to attract a girl on Engadget, just list the specs of your PC.
By the way ladies, it does run Crysis and it does so all night.
@Sea Urchin - Well... the low power consumption and near-silent operation makes this little gadget more appealing to the HTPC crowd.
@Sea Urchin
Wait... you put together an i930 with 6GB of ram and only used a 9800GT video card? And you claim it plays Crysis? At what resolution? 640x480??!?!
Are they mad ? You can buy netbooks for $279 with the same specs and it comes with an LCD.
No CD/DVD drive?
I'm an Asus fan, but I went for the Acer Revo. I got the 1G/160G for $200. Took me about 5 minutes to add another 1G that I had laying around. I've really liked it so far.
These prizes always puzzle me. Take a netbook, remove the screen, remove the touchpad, remove the keyboard, remove the webcam, remove the battery and charging circuitry. Shouldn't the result be much cheaper than a netbook?
Wasn't the original one of these WITH ION just a bit cheaper than this?
Providing this is around the $200 mark it's not a bad thing. Adding a Broadcom Crystal HD mini PCIe adapter to this and the fact that the pinetrail chipset is fanless - This would make a great HD media player running XBMC or similar.
