Netflix for Wii now 'fully available' to all users
Netflix discs have already been shipping out to quite a few Wii users for a couple of weeks now, but Nintendo and Netflix have only just now finally announced that the discs and service are "fully available" to all users as of today. So, if you weren't among the rather large initial group, you should be receiving your disc any day now (if you haven't already), and you can of course still request a disc from Netflix if you haven't done so -- assuming you have a Netflix membership, that is.

the force is strong with him
You both are strong with the Force, but you are not Jedis yet
That is no kid though, that is actually a formidable sith lord, just look at that focus and power
@Lord Vader
It has to be said, you're one of my favourite posters here.
You are powerful with the ways of the force Admiral michaelwub

How is it that none of these comments are highest ranked yet? I thought any references to Star Wars or Terminator were automatically given the highest rank tag.
It sure is. The don't forget to tell me each and every time I go to the website homepage, even though I've clicked "No Thanks" each time :(
@Twisthem488 There's absolutely NO WAY that picture is real - the clarity of HD on the TV /= the SD that Wii owners get...
@Phenom Did you mean to reply to me? I didn't say anything about the picture. I'm confirming the fact that its now available because they've been spamming me with the message every time I try to watch a movie on my computer.
@Phenom Are you serious? Yes, it looks "sharp" in the picture, but that's all an optical illusion. Copy that image into a photo editor. Then crop out just the TV's display. I did that and I'm measuring the resolution of the display in the photo at 246x133 pixels (give or take a couple pixels in either dimension). Are you claiming that the Wii can't deliver a vertical resolution of 133p?
@Phenom
forgetting that advertisements never use real photos of TV sets, ever, i think your skepticism is a bit overclocked. it's a shot of a stationary graphic, from across a room, with no zoom. if you've never seen one, it so happens that a wii can display color photographs from an sd card, without even catching fire. furthermore, HDTV can also look like ass, if you stick your face 3 inches from the screen.
Is this US only?
@Toha
Yeah.
I got an email that my disc will arrive tomorrow. Huzzah!
@jjsavage Me too!
Awesome, I've had mine for several weeks now. Works great now I just wish netflix offered better movies for streaming. But a service to have nonetheless.
I don't understand why they did this. Wii owners are the people who get a kick out of standing up and jumping around, flailing (ha- bet you read that as 'failing') like fools. The concept of sitting down and enjoying your entertainment is foreign to them, if not contradictory to the Wii's purpose and the whole reason you'd buy one.
@whySoSerious Sad thing is, we got the Wii as a "family" console (the Xbox is Daddy's). Yet I play the Wii more than the kids do (they hardly play any games at all).
But as soon as showed them they could do Netflix on the Wii, they jumped on it and started streaming iCarly, Hannah Montana and all that other Crap (actually the girl who plays "Sam" on iCarly is hilarious) :-)
@whySoSerious Huh? That almost seemed like a thought out post, but it was so ignorant I'm not sure why you bothered. I have a Wii, it's a great social gaming platform for when my friends are over. Now, I can stream movies when it's just me, or with my friends. Don't be such a fool.
@whySoSerious You say this as if every console won't be doing this within 8 months. See Natal and PS Move for reference.
@whySoSerious : Wait ... are you REALLY that much of a moron or are you just having an off-day? Oh, and let's see what your glorious attitude has to say when Natal and Move are selling and those other "serious" consoles get their fair share of waggleware and flailing about.
Idiot.
Wow - a lot of people taking offense to my semi-sarcastic, semi-truthful, very snarky comment.
By and far, in my real life experience with many people who own Wii's (from friends to family) and the sentiments I've read online, the Wii was more of a novelty than anything. High purchase numbers, low actual usage stats. Once you experienced its motion control, it rapidly loses play value. As someone said above, it's taken out and used mainly as a social tool - hardly anyone plays it alone. I haven't figured out if it's the nature of the games that causes this, or the weird feeling you get "playing" with yourself (no pun intended).
While I can understand now that it'd still be a social tool with company, and used to stream Netflix during the alone time, my feelings above still stand pretty true. Who cares if other consoles stream Netflix and just happen to get motion control later - that entirely misses the point. Such a stupid comparison (Natal/Move and the Wii) Those consoles weren't sold on the main fact of being a motion controlled console. To now take one that WAS sold on that premise (Wii) and make the primary function and sit down and "veg" tool DOES seem, well, stupid - whether you want to admit it or not.
Look at the first response to my original post - he hit the nail right on the head. The kids who wanted the Wii don't even play it anymore - they just stream. What the heck was the point in getting a Wii then?
Netshiz is for pussies who can't use torrents
@markolic
Yeah and it's even worse because all the netflix movies are in standard definition on the WII...let's see, pay for crappy quality standard def. movies from netflix, or download 1080p rips from torrents for free...
HMMM..TOUGH CHOICE!
@markolic Any way for my comment to be upranked out of oblivion , and torrents are free'er than most netflix
I can haz iPhone/iPod touch?
@Shakeandblake Or bubonic plague? Sure. Please do!!
It'd be nice if you could just download the disc.
Then again, a majority of Wii users would probably not be able to handle that.
Any word on when it's coming to Europe or Spain????
Whoopie. Now I have two systems to watch movies on. I'll just stick with the 360 version for now.
My ps3 disk still isn't here,
now I get an email about my wii?
Its certainly not going to display 720P or 1080P but the people who buy a wii probarbly wont care in the first place.
@MoonWalkerCTE We care no matter how much Nintendo protests
@Extinction
No. Only the trolls care.
Hey Netflix, next stop... Android please!
Netflix is dominating in movie rental service. I'm excited for Netflix streaming on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
Look, NETFLIX is a U.S. based Company. They only have service in the U.S. Movies have pain in the butt distribution rights, and what you can do in the U.S. you can't do anywhere else. Stop asking if the Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3 can do it in YOUR COUNTRY!!!! That's NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!!!! Do you get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is there a Company anywhere else in the world doing what Netflix is doing?!?!? If there was one in Europe or whatever, then maybe you would have that service in that country YOU live in. on the Consoles and Blu-Ray players and other devices. Until that happens, stop asking. MS, Sony and Nintendo have ZERO control in this. Netflix would have to work out deals for each and every other country that wanted to bring the service to. Not a very easy thing to do. Netflix had Major problems just in the U.S to get any real Movies and newer stuff streaming though a loophole and going though STARZ!!! This is also why many of these movies have a STARZ opening screen before the movie starts. This allowed Netflix in bring in a whole lot more movies for streaming. These new Delay deals that have been worked out allows Netflix to stream a great many more Movies and TV Programs. Again, Netflix is a U.S. Company, there business is in the U.S., and the deals worked out with all these other company's are for the U.S. ONLY!!!
Goodbye XBox Live Gold account. Got the first month free last month after sending the thing in for repairs in Dec. then got a renewal for $1 this month. Going to drop it since its free on the Wii....for now.
When will Netflix finally stop discriminating against U.S. citizens residing in Puerto Rico and allow them to enjoy their streaming service?
@JHomer51
I don't think it's 'discrimination'. Just a simple weighing up of the costs, compared to the potential market. Same reason they haven't rolled out anywhere else outside of the US mainland.
I love the idea of the Wii interface for browsing media. Point and click is where it's at! But I'm afraid I just can't get too excited when it can't do HD. So far this is a cutting edge way to access media at an old standard (SD).

Works great!
Verified works on Wii & 360 simultaneously!
I watch my movies/shows in in one room, kids watch theirs on Wii.
They can't offer HD but still the SD video looks pretty good. All 3 devices supporting Netflix streaming (Wii, Xbox and PS3) offer a really good video experience. All tested here: http://www.thehdstandard.com/streaming-technology/netflix-streaming-on-nintendo-wii-now-available/
