Reminder: Original Xbox games lose Live support tonight at midnight PT
Just a heads up for those who long for Halo 2's embrace: as of midnight PT tonight, Microsoft is pulling the plug on Live support for original titles. As of this publication, you have a little less than seven hours (as of this writing) to get in a few more rounds of Capture the Flag and Oddball with your friends of old, before having to go out and pick up an used copy of Halo 3 -- at least there's 400 MS points in it as a consolation prize.

@Zoinks
Wrong....most PS3's are not backwards compatible at all.
So, did they ever fix that stupid standby glitch on Halo 2? I quit playing it withing a month after release because when you got to a high enough rank all anyone did was use that to win each map, start to finish. What an absolute joke that was. Worse cheating than Socom....hard to believe, I know.
@DerekUGA
Sorry mate but most can play PS1 games. And some PS2 games.
Well I guess this explains those 400 MS points I mysteriously got last week... Thanks MS!
OMG!! Microsoft sucks!! Apple would never do this!! Unless Apple thought it was a good idea, like dropping updates for iPhone gen 1. Anyway, Apple rules - MS Sucks!
@cc3d
LOL! "Unless Apple thinks it's a good idea" that just invalidated your statement. Basically: "They would NEVER do this... unless they wanted to"
So apply the same thing to Microsoft.. they wanted to be able to add new features to Live for 360 users (like more than 100 friends) and cut costs
Oh, and Apple isn't anywhere near the realm of supporting an online gaming service so how is that even relevant?
@cc3d Weah, Apple still support the old PPC architecture...No...Wait!
@Mystictrust I dunno if you missed it, but Apple just announced iPhone OS 4.0 recently, and part of that is a matchmaking/achievement service called Game Center. I'd call that very near the realm ;)
"Just a heads up for those who long for Halo 2's embrace"... Can't you still play halo 2 for windows? I mean I would assume so, and if you plug in an xbox controller it is almost no different than the xbox version at all.. well except the community is much smaller.
What happens to all the people who bought Xbox Live just for the original Xbox who don't have the Xbox 360? Really, I have no idea.
@Niazac Every beginning has an end.
@Slvrgun
But what about the universe, eh?
Seriously though, are they going to reimburse them or is 400 points supposed to suffice?
@Niazac
I believe they get refunded if they refuse the points.
Dick move Microsoft, dick move.
Achievement Unlocked: Off The Grid
good bye.... I guess all my old online playing is gonna be star wars battle front 2 and kill and online darth vaders ass
I think this brave new world of DRMed Cloudy things sucks, especially when suppliers can on a whim disable stuff you bought.
I cant understand why they just don't release one final update for the game so it uses the new 360 Live servers instead. Is it that hard?
Was just playing it...it wasn't shut off at midnight, and was able to download the maps, unless they mean it's shutting down at midnight tonight (Thursday).
Of course, I sucked a$$...hadn't played it in a LONG time.
No I hate this I am in Atlanta and my Xbox 360 is in Boston and really who needs more than 100 friends I have 100 and play regularly with about 70 so I see no point in this and unless there is some other big upgrade for my console. Can anyone tell me why
they can't keep live for the top 5 games on he original Xbox that have live. I am very disappointed Micro$oft. Maybe now I should get a ps3....... nah.
It hasn't shut down yet. I was still able to log in this morning. Bungie.net is showing 913 people online as of this writing.
Glad to be rid of that god awful SMG.
