This is far from the first
iPad knockoff to emerge from
KIRF-land, but Moonse's new E-7001 tablet may just be the first to garner some serious interest -- if it ever actually turns up for sale, that is. Supposedly, the tablet will sell for as little as 900 Chinese yuan (or about $130), which will get you a 7-inch touchscreen, a 600MHz Rockchip RK2808 processor (which could possibly be upgraded to a Cortex-A8 before launch), Android 1.5 for an OS, an SD card slot for storage, built-in WiFi, and a promised five hours of battery life. What's more, while it is slightly thicker than an iPad, it apparently weighs just 0.7 pounds, or about half as much as the iPad, and it boasts a few advantages of its own, in a front-facing camera and a USB port. As you may have guessed, there's not even a hint on availability, but it does seem to at least exist in prototype form, and there's plenty more shots of it at the source link below.
Looks like any other tablet on the market.
@Edmunn
At least it has nothing on the Courier
@Edmunn
they could have use a few buttons like android phone instead of the round button like ipad. smaller border is always nice
@htd
good for its price i want it
@Edmunn
At $130, THIS will be the device that kills ereaders.
.............
But seriously, $130!?!?! I think I want one.
@Gas for a 130 bucks and android count me in.
@Edmunn
It has a front-facing camera... makes video calls. That's an obvious differentiator IMO. Shame about the Android 1.5 thought.
@Edmunn
yeah a little vanilla bur for $130 I can throw some android 2.1 on there and we are in business. hmmm I wonder if it's multi-touch...
@seanGadget ...and why would you *not* want it to have something on the Courier?
@Edmunn yea... Just like an iPad...
@Edmunn
google around and found this website but its selling at $100 more at $230, do you think its worth the price?

we found 2gb and 16gb version of Android Ipad in China.
we want to buy a sample to try it. it's a multi task os, more better than apple single task, pls. see it.

if kirf makers can add the features everyone wanted, why not apple? i wonder what the drawbacks of this thing are, if it has any, as is likely, being a kirf.
@safe travels the Apple dragon has to protect it's 3rd head (selling media)
@safe travels
To be fair to Apple, this kind of shows why their philosophy makes sense for some people (causal users for example). The iPad lacks many of the things this device has (camera, USB port, etc) but like with all Apple designs, what it DOES do it does very well. This device has more features but I'd wager the implementation and usability suffer in comparison.
@safe travels
So Apple can charge for SD addons and USB addons, and people buy it
http://www.crunchgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/adapters.jpg
So more profit to Apple
@safe travels
the battery probably sucks
@safe travels
So Apple can get a few years of worth of repeated sales by gradually adding in features each year that should've been there from the start?
@safe travels No one wants Android 1.5. 2.x? Sure!
@safe travels Apple purposely leaves out features and slowly adds them to the new models. Smart business model, but it really sucks for the general consumer.
@safe travels drawbacks..support, accessories, upgrades, residual value
@mikethebigo
How can you compare usability between this and the ipad when the ipad has less features? The iad cannot implement A function better if it DOESN'T even have the function in the first place! Apple zombies! I will never understand how Apple infects them! And once their infected they believe its awesome to have to keep spending more money on things that should of been included in the first place! And even though Apple abuses them unmercifully they defend them to the death! Run for your lives! They'll never get me! aaaaaarrrrrhhhhhh!!
Um... does anyone else actually want this MORE than they would want an iPad? I mean, an Android tablet for $130? Yes please.
@slinky317
$130? Yeah, I'd get one
@slinky317 America, F--- Yeah!
What is KIRFy about this? Nobody would mistake this for an iPad. That said, if it works half-way decently for an Android device, this kind of thing at this price point is ideal for kids software. Simply amazing.
@slinky317
thy have also a 10" model :)

@slinky317
and 5" .....

would be nice to have the option to chose the size also for the iPad ?

@sliderem And my axe!
Android 1.5? No Market? 600MHz? Throw it away...
@TheGM
U don't see the market icon right there? Cause I do
@TheGM. No. Leave it to me. I will deal with it myself
@Lord Vader We found Luke. Kind of looks sad, bad choice? I guess the "obscure" big mac ain't that tasty.
@Lord Vader Yeah. Euh… almost forgot the evidence.

@NextGen. Yesssss. The silent treatment is working. Soon he will have no choice but to join me. Stealing my mask was not a smart move Luke
@TheGM I see the Market now, the Dark Side blinded me.
Android 1.5. WTH!!
Google should remove any source of that code off the web and deny anyone that uses it access to Google'a apps like market,gmail,maps,etc
@DefPoet Remove the source yes.. don't think the current users would be too happy about being denied access to email though.
But they do need to bitch slap the slow to act OEM's
@sshole
Yeah I didn't mean the enduser just the oems.
BTW love the name B-)
@DefPoet is there any reason to believe this won't be running 2.1 by the time it makes it to market? (if it ever does). Any reason to believe you can't upgrade it yourself?
Who knows it might even be more useful than the device it KIRFS.
I want this more than the thing it KIRFS, seriously though Android 1.5? If it had a recent version of Android on it I might actually buy one!
"an SD card slot for storage"
Not trying to be a grammar nazi but I don't think that's correct.
@dickweed
Then again maybe it is?
@dickweed
it is, you pronounce it like "ES-DEE"
@dickweed
"Not trying to be a grammar nazi but I don't think that's correct. "
You're comment isn't correct either. You missed a comma.
What it should be: "Not trying to be a grammar Nazi, but I don't think that's correct."
@Geaux I love when people try to correct another's grammar mistakes, but make one for themselves...lol
@Geaux commas are optional before conjunctions
@dickweed
I can't wait until we adopt newspeak so all of you can shut the hell up

What prevents anything from having Android 2.1? Is there a legal or technical reason why anything being released shouldn't have the highest version now?
