Holocube Touch demonstrated on video, no glasses required
The original Holocube was already fairly impressive as it was, but it looks like the folks behind it have now managed to do one better with their new Holocube Touch. While complete details on this one are still a bit light, it apparently uses the same type of projection system as the original, with some added touch capabilities to let you interact with the holograms -- although not quite to the same degree as some other systems. As if that wasn't enough, they're also now apparently hard at work on 42-inch Holocube, but there doesn't seem to be an ETA on it just yet. Head on past the break for a glimpse of this one in action.

Companion Cube!
@Sunweb
are you still there...? I don't blame you...
This is sick.
@Sunweb the cake is a lie
@Sunweb Hello, 2007.
@Sunweb
This is a triumph!
I'm making a note here, BIG SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate my satisfaction...
@tobsmonster2 I don't (b)lame you :D
@SolidSnake
LYRICS FAIL.
HUGE SUCCESS.
@kevlar
Nooooo.. I don't hate you.
Kinda boring.... no???
@gadget4444
Imagine if you were inside of it.... :D
@gadget4444 Yeah I wasn't really too impressed..
@gadget4444
Imagine you could control you neighbours with it.
@gadget4444
I'm just saying, couldn't they have made the demo a little more interesting? Use your imagination guys....
@gadget4444 That's right to impatient to launch it , sorry, this is a demo for a home automation system, bit boring indeed.
I can't wait until home computers are like this, and we reach out and grab windows to move them around.
What does it do? Someone explain please!
Wonkavision!
One step closer to the Holodeck!
@hq only 56,100,999 more to go!
This video didn't impress me. But watch the original holocube debut demo to be impressed. They actually are holograms.
what is going on there that is supposed to be impressive?
now that's what I call magical.
@theehokage
and that's what i call science
I don't get it.
Mines is Superior
Isn't the one from Japan last year (linked to in the article) a whole lot better than this?
http://jakanddaxter.wikia.com/wiki/Holo-Cube ?
What a crapgadget
who would ever believe that this is a real hologram?
it's just a reflection of a 2D screen in some glass

bad, bad reporting engadget
Hm.... the parallax effect on that thing might be pain to deal with...
this is the courier
I guess the effect is lost on us with 2d monitors.
For all I know, this was just a regular touchscreen display. Until I see another video where the camera actually moves so you can see the perspective change, I'm just going to assume that's the case.
@chaos215bar2 Agree. Lazy of them to not change angles. It totally looks like a 2d touchscreen....
looks nice, let's see if it works without glasses
It kinda reminded me of those cheap bowl looking things that make an optical illusion.
I'm going to hibernate now. Please wake me when 3D moves from novelty to relevant.
I always envisioned one of these cubes to run off a USB port to display products online. For example, you go to macys.com and all the product photos (clothing, shoes, etc.) can be ported to the cube for a 3D view. This way customers have a more accurate representation of the clothes; not to mention the potential for trying them on your virtual self.
@captainpease that's a very good one and for shure possible !
@captainpease
I had kinda the same idea...felt wouldn't be macys....or clothes....but it would involve peope...preferably 2 or more....think about it
@xXslagathoorXx real life size people !
