I guess I'm struggling with the description of this being "compelling". It's a black slab smartphone. Looks like about 90% of the other smartphones out there. It's not ugly but I don't get what is so compelling about the design.
Hi, I am from Taiwan. In Taiwan's most famous 3C forum, there are multiple inside source from factory shows that new iPhone will have glass back, so it looks like it is the real picture.
@xbit Pretty much every HTC phone looks nicer than the iPhone. My iPhone doesn't look bad but I liked the look of my HTC Shadow better even if it was pretty old.
@DannyDonatello That's what Gizmodo is saying... "huh". 30 minutes into the reveal and they have nothing on their site... You'd think they use an RSS feed or something...
@Midnitte Another possibility is that they're stepping up their privacy efforts by designing and distributing whole other hardware designs to throw would-be leaksters off the trail. I wouldn't be entirely surprised.
Hey I'm looking at my next iPhone on my current iPhone! It's like telling your kid you're putting him up for adoption, but telling him to help you pick his replacement.
1: I bet it's legitimate, and I like the design much better than the current one. It won't convince me to buy one, but it definitely looks more interesting than what they've been doing, which is getting pretty boring to me....
2: Somebody is going to lose their job over this. Oooh boy are they gonna be in trouble.
@truthiness I thought about that ("the seams = maybe so we can remove battery"), but I think Apple will do it - especially if they have improved battery life. I could go either way, I don't care if the battery became removable or not....
@doutorpiranha exactly!!! This is a mega fake! Apple has unibody tech but won't use it on iPhone?! Pft...this reeks of fake from every corner (from bad design to, low quality parts to seams all around!)
It just might be it, unless apple seeded that 'prototype' on purpose... you know, more attention and blocking everyones away from MS new stuff and such...
On the other hand, is it's the real deal, they did a really good job by letting the design contain more 'roomy' components, such as new radios, storage, ram, maybe a new processor, cameras and a larger battery...
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
huh
Nope. There are joints
seams i meant...
@DannyDonatello Looks like a cassette player....
@DannyDonatello
Looks nice to me, I like that look much better than my 3G/3GS.
@DannyDonatello
Wholly crap, that phone actually looks sexy.
Hope it is the new iPhone, its about time Apple did a new design.
@Scincidae
Doesn't look very iPhoney.
@lexitu
Hence why he called it nice looking.
But this has even caught my eye, nice looking handset.
@DannyDonatello I was missing my weekend's rumor.
@BlackedOut

@DannyDonatello that one line/crack/seams on the left side of the phone, gives it away... apple would not do this.
It would look, ...seamless...
@DannyDonatello

Looks like a HTC phone to me.
If this is real, I will buy it on launch day.
@doutorpiranha agreed. doesnt follow any of Apples brand language. not a chance this is real, move along
@xbit
Pretty much every HTC phone looks nicer than the iPhone. My iPhone doesn't look bad but I liked the look of my HTC Shadow better even if it was pretty old.
@lexitu I think it looks like an iPhony
@DannyDonatello
God that's hideous. Steve Jobs would probably throw up if that came out of Cupertino....
@DannyDonatello That's what Gizmodo is saying... "huh". 30 minutes into the reveal and they have nothing on their site... You'd think they use an RSS feed or something...
Just looking at it again, doesn't really feel like it...
http://images.intomobile.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/next-gen-iphone-prototype-leak.jpg
^Doesn't look like that IMHO
@DannyDonatello
I'd bet dollars to donuts that the device (or shell) shown is NOT the next iPhone...Someone wanna take me up on it?
@lexitu
..it looks pretty "Phoney" to me.
@DannyDonatello
Let's hope someone doesn't have to commit suicide *cough* over this leak.
@DannyDonatello
I'm replying to the first comment to be seen on the first page, HURRAY!
@DannyDonatello
Oh great .. now that this leaked .. Steve Jobs will probably kill it. He'll not have front facing camera just to spite whoever leaked it.
@lexitu
It doesn't look so much iPhoney as it does iPhony.
@DannyDonatello
Somehow, I doubt it will run on 4G, so they'll have to call it something else.
Like iPhone 3GS2... Or, iPhone HD sounds good.
@Outsider
If this is the iPhone HD than the HTC Evo is going to be an even bigger seller
@mitchleeh7
Always the possibility that theres more than one prototype...
@DannyDonatello:
Probably. It takes after more of the iPad style of less rounded sides.
Aside from those ugly ass buttons on the side, I kinda like it. Reminds me more of my old Motorola that I liked.
@Outsider id just call it iphone 4
@jrei14mecom Yes, based on three pictures of the device powered down it is quite obvious that it could never compare to the EVO.
As we speak Steve Jobs is commanding his Special Ops to retrieve this device.
Why would someone go through all the effort to make a fake? I think this may definitely be it...
@DannyDonatello
I created an enhanced version of this image check it out people:
http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/2074/iphone4frontenhanced.jpg
shows a little more details.
@mitchleeh7 not really the original did have something similar if i'm not mistaken: http://www.iphonealley.com/images/storyimages/June08/sidebyside.jpg
see how the black part on the bottom is separate from the rest of it?
@Midnitte Another possibility is that they're stepping up their privacy efforts by designing and distributing whole other hardware designs to throw would-be leaksters off the trail. I wouldn't be entirely surprised.
@doutorpiranha Seams. Bummer I was going to get one if it had joints!

@jrei14mecom
Damn straight!!!
This looks like a freaking cinderblock!!!
@mitchleeh7 unless that's so you can remove the battery?
@bjsguess The back is flat! * hallelujah*
@erik1080
"Why would someone go through all the effort to make a fake?"
Ask all of the companies who release look-a-like products and get back to me.
Two things:
1: I bet it's legitimate, and I like the design much better than the current one. It won't convince me to buy one, but it definitely looks more interesting than what they've been doing, which is getting pretty boring to me....
2: Somebody is going to lose their job over this. Oooh boy are they gonna be in trouble.

Hope to get more info SOON!
@JS. So in other words jobs is a giant prick
@revoltracers
Then enjoy looking at it, since that will be the extent of its abilities since its tied to AT&T.
@TheLondonExchange
I'll probably throw up if that's not what ends up coming out of Cupertino.
Looks sexy as hell.
@jrei14mecom You're out of your mind. Only if it was an iEVO would it sell better!
