Keepin' it real fake redux: Nexus One clone is 'Teg W3000,' has WiFi, dual cameras, TV tuner and Skype
Earlier this month, an unknown manufacturer had the dubious distinction of making our KIRF list, for building what appeared to be a Nexus One running iPhone OS. Mr. Blurrycam couldn't tell for sure... but today the KIRFtastic handset has been unveiled in all its infringing glory. Dubbed the "TEG W3000," the device is billed as a quad-band GSM worldphone with an accelerometer, WiFi and Bluetooth, front and back-facing 2 megapixel cameras, FM and analog TV tuners and Java support. While the iPhoney OS doesn't seem to have a App Store hackjob, the phone certainly has apps; in an interface pic, we spotted eBuddy, Facebook and Skype alongside Maps and the Opera web browser. Hands-down the most exciting ripoff in recent memory. Now cautiously whistle a happy tune, and move along.

@koolerz1569 you don't have to pay if you don't include any of the google services. plain android is free.
@Vizzy
To hell with Android, hey Palm - here's your Pre3 (Pre++), hook up with these guys and license WebOS. Profit!!!
When Nexus1 and iPhone have a baby...
@MegaJapan this must be the result of inbreeding then
@MegaJapan
I know right?
Why wouldnt they put android on it?
Avira shows me this when I click on the phone picture :
When accessing data from the URL, "http://js.users.51.la/3391257.js"
a virus or unwanted program 'HEUR/HTML.Malware' [heuristic] was found.
I think it's a Malware . Be Careful guys.
Your source was wrong on the new iPhone. This is the 4th gen iPhone.
A 2 megapixel camera .. they should go out of business for selling something like that
@chosenone1 /S? Megapixel queen on a phone. iPhone 3Gs 3MP, 3G 2MP. Yes, it's almost a year long in the teeth and it's Apple, but one of the largest names in tech would be out of business if you had your way Princess.
facebook app on a KIRF, everybody knows that china doesn't allow facebook access =)
@WhiteShadow
Uh...facebook isn't blocked.
@bigcow05
Yes it is.
However, the facebook app in that picture seemed to have a different icon, so maybe it was a KIRF service, not the real facebook.
Just think, if this thing were made like 6 years ago, it'd be the king of phones.
You sure its not the nexus 2?
It could be the nexus 2.
Nothing wrong with a good spoof.
@LordDarkHelmet
lmaooooooooo Lord Dark Helmet, I'm dying.
In a way it's kind of the ultimate punch in the face to Android.
the maker of this phone should be sued by Google/HTC and Apple for using their hardware and software design without permission. same with those fake chinese iPhones and all.
@statickeith
Companies would go broke trying to track down and sue all those KIRF companies.
Beside that, international lawsuits are far more demanding upon resources. Unless these companies actually produce products that can rival theirs and are blatant copies, its normally best to just leave it alone.
Skype? Almost worth buying.
Now we just need an iphone clone that runs an android look-alike...
@ssmonger Exactly I wish I could put Android on my iPhone without all the hacking involved.
I find it funny a bunch of KIRF iPhone's run an unofficial Android and KIRF Android phones(N1, Droid, G1, etc...), run a iPhoneOS clone.
That's MTK OS running the iPhone skin that's everywhere.
Engadget you don't know your Chinese phones.
"built-in English, Chinese, ask questions, Russian, Greek and other languages as many as 25 countries, do not worry about the operational problems caused by language"
lol.. even the KIRF uses Opera instead of Safari...
@mrstef at least it used the iPhone home screen, not one of those Android UIs.
I think we should be asking why China can make rip-offs better than the original thing. After all, aren't these supposed to be the latest and greatest?
Damn chinese cant get anything right... Why would you make a replica of a phone that runs android and put a fake iphone os on it? I mean Android is open source and it comes with a real marketplace.
Is it just me or do the chinese always have a good idea but seem to always come up short..
@Vellie No. This has nothing about the Chinese not getting things right.
The MTKOS iPhone OS skin takes very little processing power and allows for much lower hardware specifications. Some Chinese manufacturers have tried coming out with Android devices, but they are expensive and in my opinion not competitive in price because they are forced to use similar hardware sold by other OEM counterparts such as HTC and Motorola. They have tried to use Android, but they simply cannot make cheap handsets anymore with hardware that runs Android well.
Trackball will be real and functional, and it glows very white. Java might be limited but usefull with ability to switch to another "app", but one java application at a time.
To reduce cost and quick impliment, these China companies have two or three sets of these OS, they can drive different homepage screens and different skins or theme throughout but they are mostly the same in every devices.
While I wouldn't go for real Nexus One, I don't mind taking this one with me.
It should be named iNexus - Nexus with iPhone OS!
a chinese company ripping off a chinese company.... somethings not right here.
Yeh, move along, nothing to see here. Just another no-name Chinese whatever, skinned to look like an iPhone UI.
BTW the company does a much more convincing KIRF.

Jphone, a bargain at only 880 RMB.
