Adept Quattro shows off terrifying speed, robotic precision (video)
See that blur in the image above? That'll be the Adept Quattro, a machine claiming the title of being the world's fastest industrial pick and place robot. On the evidence of today's video, we're not going to argue. Being demonstrated as part of the first National Robotics Week, the Quattro took on a WiiMote-controlled moving platform and still effortlessly conducted its job at a pace that would make even Usain Bolt feel inadequate. The person controlling the platform tries his best to confuse the machine with rapid changes of direction, but whatever he does, the chips are placed and removed from their repositories with unerring precision. Go past the break to see the Quattro in action.

So this is why I'm not in the highscores at that bubble popping game on my iPhone.
@Shanebenn Who in their right mind would want to buy a computer after seeing this? I want one!
@The Madman Who in their right mind would want to buy anything to support the Rise of the machines after seeing this?
@Atkins well, he is the madman.
@Atkins
Let him buy.
oh hell no, we have no chance against these robotic beasts.
@Echuu Man, we are so screwed. I think the Terminator is just some hobby project.
@Atkins Brilliant, dude!
@Atkins
Dont you guys think we should drop the Terminator/End of world announcing routine every time we see a piece of brilliant technology and get off our chair and start investing our time in building bunkers instead
@airbag888 Why didn't I thi.... I am going to get the shovel right now.
That is fast :O Even with this robot organizing my desk real time I would still mess it up.
They're picking and placing chips now, soon they'll be picking and placing human skulls at high speed.
@r3loaded
agreed,
humans are creating new species to destroy themself.
Such roboters are more scary than an overkill .....
@r3loaded Turn that thing sideways and give it a nail gun and next thing you know, poof, no more pesky humans.
He needs motion plus to defeat that monster!
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords
@Foxmeister i also like to welcome them and add i hope they have a place for me,all hail skynet
@Foxmeister
i opened this article just to press ctrl f for "overlord" and there you are. congrats, you are completely predictable.
@Foxmeister
I'd like to remind them that as a trusted TV personality I could be helpful in rounding up others to toil in their underground silicon caves.
They will be perfect at cutting us up, oops I meant operating on us. So precise, so fast they will easily make spaghetti I mean healthy people out of us...
Yeah, hmmm. The thing about critical mass points is that you don't know until it all comes together then wham! You got a crank started car when yesterday it was just an assortment of tech demos by boffins
@Cy Starkman Ah, don't worry so much, it'll al be ok. I mean... it'll be quick, right?
Fastest tattoo artist in town.
All hail our robotic overlords. :3
@Slygathor
This is madness!
great for whack-a-mole
@sk5878 whack-em-all.
Skynet is alive.
@sonola777 It has been for some time. Now it just got some hands.
Come on Nintendo, we need some to beat them!!!
@IronLantern Nintendo is one of them! Don't be fooled.
@Atkins Maybe the Wii was a ploy to get market saturated with their products. And now they are going to activate their 'emotion chips'!!! We are so screwed.
@IronLantern and all the Emotion Engines of the PS2's and early PS3's...
Where is Lord Vader? There is only the Force left to save us!
@Atkins
Even Lord Vader cannot stop Skynet.
@Cyberdyne Systems We shall see, you... machine...
If you turn the volume up enough you can just make out the robot muttering: 'Here I am, brain the size of a planet and this is what they have me doing.'
@mikeplow1961 I'm roughly 30 million times more intelligent than you are. I'll prove it. Give me a number, any number. Wrong. See?
@mikeplow1961 There's a man who knows where his towel is!
I'll be right here in this corner, with my towel over my head.
Speed up production and fire more people. Men is moving forward.
R2 says that the chances of survival are 725 to 1.
Actually R2 has been known to make mistakes... from time to time...
Oh dear.
The fear is tangible. It doesn't have a gun but it does have an off switch.
@jembarnes
but can you reach it in time?
@mrqs
... before it gets to your off switch
(still need the edit button engadget)
Made me think of how cats react when you keep moving the ball of string around to "play" with them ... they eventually start chasing the hand.
Now with all wheel drive.
I hear this is how the Geth got started. Lazy Quarians.
Jesus Christ...All the movies made it look like we have a chance against the machines...
LIARS!!!!
@AbsoluteDesignz We will use the directors and the actors in our front lines. Or as bait?
@Atkins well considering the deceptive hope they gave us in their films (at least most of them) I say we use them as bait to distract them while we build a massive underground city near the core for the survivors of the upcoming robot apocalypse...original idea
@AbsoluteDesignz We must patent this.
