Dell Mini 5 gets FCC approval again, this time with T-Mobile flavoring
Whether it's branded the Mini 5, the Streak, the Streak 5, or something else entirely, we can say with certainty that Dell's going to be hitting the Android market hard in 2010 -- but we didn't realize it'd be hitting this hard. It looks like the company might be taking a tack similar to Google's with the Nexus One, because a second variant of product code M01M just garnered FCC approval -- this time featuring WCDMA Band IV in place of Bands II and V, which means it'll work on T-Mobile's airwaves instead of AT&T's. In lieu of a carrier deal, could Dell be looking to blow this out on as many carriers as it possibly can? We hope so -- as long as our wallets can stomach the unsubsidized hit.

This is great news ... Being a t-mobile customer i am always bummed because we always get a lame choice of phones. I am a motorola cliq user and love android ... T-mobile won't cripple the mini 5 or add a crap ton of crap ware like ATT. I just hope I can get my hands on this phone when it launches .... T-mobile usually doesn't let the more plus uncontracted plan users have access to the cool phones. They only give access to the new phones to new customers first and leave the crappy phones no one wants in the "upgrade" section for us.
Too little, too late.
The EVO will be out before this will, and then no one will care.
Should have learned a lesson from the X10. Constant delays = failure
@Johnny Rockets Too bad I don't have Sprint and don't care for it either. I'll stick with GSM and don't want to be gouged by AT&T.
hell yes! now give us a tmo release date!
If this is true...if the Dell Mini 5 will be available on T-Mobile...then I will be ditching Verizon Wireless. The Incredible looks amazing and I'm sure I would be happy with it, but Verizon's smartphone plans are just waaaaay too expensive.
@bluh
i agree. verizon = highway robbery. the only way i might leave tmo is for the EVO on sprint.
@bluh
+1 for that
VZW is the utmost stingy on mobile internet!
Remember who made 5GB limit on data card plans?
It's Verizon Wireless!
This will still be available without a phone contract, right?
Screw the iPhone 4G and the Incredible, this will replace my Nexus One.
F the iPhone 4G and the Incredible, This will replace my Nexi.
Anyone want an HD2?
@Hussain Rahim For free, I am willing to suffer the WM 6.5 O.S. ;-)
hopefully it will be able to keep up with android's breakneck release cycle. kind of exciting to see t-mobile (best tethering plans around) getting some android love.
@MangoPants
that is one of my fears with this thing. As we've seen with other companies, updates lag behind...
@Plazmic Flame
This device would probably kill as a Google Experience device... whatever that means.
I'm just glad Dell didn't go to AT&T way I could care less for a Dell Tablet rather something else AS LONG IT'S NOT PANTECH OR ANY OTHER BRAND. First of all I HATE THE DELL AERO it should of gone too T-Mobile too instead of AT&T. ATT have a crappy Maketing MNGR. AND I'm still looking for that good ANDROID phone. Upgrade May 15th and counting down.
This thing is going to be outdated by the time it's released.
Yes baby. I'm on T-Mo. Contractless and with my job discount, pay ~$50/mo for 500 mins, unlim txt and web. I started on the iphone (got stolen), now on my BB, but cannot wait for this Streak!
Michael Dell. I've said it before. I will be your Dellvangelist. Heck, I'm already your Dellvangelist (at least for the streak 5!). Hook me up!
T-Mobile 3G is fast and reliable in NYC and I am pretty happy with it, but a friend of mine, who lives in Ditmas Ave, experienced an outage past weekend. I filed a ticket for him (he's in my family plan) and the service was back after that.
He also loves the service, it's lightyear better than metroPOS!
So, is this gonna require a date plan? If so, it better not also require a talk plan, that'll ruin the point for me to get this thing.
@AWBrisebois *Data, not date
