Keepin' it real fake: iPad QWERTY slider edition
We're not about to cover every iPad knockoff that emerges from parts unknown, but this particular device packs just enough KIRF innovation to get us to take notice. The biggest selling point, so to speak, is the tablet's sliding QWERTY keypad, which packs some MacBook-esque keys and a ThinkPad-style pointing stick. As if that wasn't enough, you'll also apparently get WIndows 7 for an OS, along with a 10-inch display of unspecified resolution, and an Atom N450 processor at the heart of rig. No indication of a price -- or even a name, for that matter -- but you can at least check out another shot of it in its closed state at the source link below.

Looks more useful than the iPad...
@Dr Blight
A sanitary pad is more useful than your last post!
@Dr Blight
looks more like an Iphone nockoff then an Ipad, it's missing the Bezel-zilla
@Dr Blight
THIS > iPad
@bazookafx3 Who was joking?
@Dr Blight
How can someone actually use something like this?
Do they have no dignity whatsoever?
Apple prices are very competitive and affordable... there is no need to resort to buying crap as such.
and to add insult to injury they use windows...
might as well wrap a turd in a blanket and name it "baby"
@Dr Blight Looks can be deceiving.
@AppleDrank
I'm sorry, did you miss the part where Windows 7 is the best consumer OS there is?
@cherryboom Take the blinders off for one second. That thing may be a KIRF, and it probably sucks. But that is exactly the form factor that I have been waiting for, right down to the trackpoint. If a worthy manufacturer made something in that form factor for the right price, I'd be all over it.
@AppleDrank
"Apple prices are very competitive and affordable... there is no need to resort to buying crap as such."
I think myself and a few others think otherwise
@chosenone1 apples products are affordable? Shit I must of missed that when I was buying a laptop...... can't justify 2000+ for a laptop when I can get the same thing for 1000 just less pretty aluminum. This actually looks awesome for a kirf
@Dr Blight I'm not sure this belongs to the "Keepin it real fake" section. Or are we now calling every 10" touchscreen device an iPad clone??? It even has a keyboard.
@Dr Blight Hey, never thought a slide QWERTY would work on a 10 inch slate, but I actually liked it..
@cherryboom
I think your cherry just popped...
@Dr Blight And its name shall be "iWin"...
@Dr Blight "Looks more useful than the iPad"
Except the top row of keys. Unless you have nails like a Kung-fu master.
@Dr Blight
Indeed... I kinda really want this. The iPad has no real allure for me (yes, I've tried one in person) but this actually looks kinda useful.
@Dr Blight haha agreed. This thing looks like it has more functionality than an iPad.
@Dr Blight And a lot more unwieldy
@Old fogie late bloomer True, but after the JooJoo and the latest news of Dell's offering as just merely 'meh', I'm hesitant to agree that the actual hands-on usage of this thing is going to be as robust.
@Odin You mean HPs offering not Dells
I lol'd @ win7 being the best consumer OS.
@eg What is this a clone of or have i got the definition of KIRF wrong?
@AppleDrank
Obvious troll.
Either that, or you're extremely sarcastic.
@Dr Blight: In other words...
Keep It Real Functional
@Dr Blight
Agreed completely. Windows 7! (a full featured OS *gasp*) a real keyboard! this looks cool
I love how such a device, and the positive reactions to it, are basically a threat to the Apple fanboys on this thread.
@AppleDrank
i wish i could downrank you more than just once. that comment failed in every possible way.
Its alive!! The Franken-Pad lives!
@One Love. What did we tell you about solvent abuse, Old Man?
That's seems pretty random. "Let's put the ThinkPad trackpoint on this KIRF"
Interesting.
Wait a second... so, it's a... laptop?!
@microlomaniac
Nope, a lapPad
@microlomaniac
Looks more like A GIANT N97
@radesalvo31
you mean a nokia n900?
If apple actually released something like this, it would actually be usefull... oh wait
@Eli Haj He means with a keyboard and I am bound to agree with that sentiment if we lived in an alternate universe. But in this one, it's Apple's style that all surfaces are flush and unobscured, smooth and monolithic. This wouldn't even be a gleam in Jobs' eye for that sole purpose alone. But stranger things have happened, like seams in a new iPhone.
Huh! No TV Tuner or dual sim-card slot. Not KIRFey enough i'm afraid!
Do things like this come with a warranty on stupidity for buying them?
This looks like a ginormous touch pro 2...
@DoctarPeppar
I've actually Ben wondering why nobody tried this sooner. I think its a great form factor for a tablet if you can squeeze good hardware in without making it too fat.
Well at least it's not apple news. I'm fucking sick of apple news. I know it's not your fault engadget, apple is doing something like this every week now and I'm tired of it.
We want strip down OS, no physical keyboard, no USB port, no power port, non removable keyboard.
/s
how in god's name is this anything close to iPad?
What's next? We will start calling Microwaves iPad "fake" because it has a big screen upfront??
@kingofwale
I was just about to say the same thing!
@kingofwale
I know right!? This is bullshit. The form factor in general is pretty different, not to mention the dimensions, the OS, the processor, and just about EVERY OTHER FUCKING THING EXCEPT THE TOUCHSCREEN!!!!!
@kingofwale
It's not much of a surprise.
The gadget blogs want to make anything and everything out to be a knockoff of the iPad so they can play the "oh everyone is just copying Apple" card like they do over and over again all over the place.
@kingofwale Nope, microwaves has real keyboard.
Is everything with a round edge screen now a "knockoff" for an iPad, seriously this is closer to a dell mini than an iPad
