FAILed to notice the iPhone trade in program.. when did that happen and how is this beta 2 affecting that trade?
@coolpal most/all cell phone providers have upgrade programs. once your warranty expires (usually 2 yrs) you can get a new phone practically for free. needless to say, that's not the case with ipods
@rekit then again, those telco's are leeching a monthly revenue from the iPhone owners... if you take that into consideration, you could easily buy a new ipod every three months if not sooner without spending more than the iphone counterparts... of course you get data to go, but just saying.

I was in the same position as you a week ago. I got an iPhone 3GS with a Pay and Go plan and everything's all good.

Woah, what the eff david blaine! iPhone owners most certainly do not get their iPhones for next-to-free! I paid $200+tax for my new 3Gs! even the old iPhone is $99 which is cheaper than an iPod touch, but we get locked in an agreement for 2 years and earn that small discount! Just sayin, im not trying to argue, at least you mad the right choice and bought an iPod touch over the Zune! I loved my iPod touch!

let me reiterate, everyone..
the 1st gen iphone and 1st gen ipod touch can't use 4.0. but most 1st gen iphone users have since upgraded to the 3g or 3gs via their service provider. therefore there aren't many 1st gen iphones left out there, and the ones that are are old and probably beat up and should be upgraded to 3g or 3gs anyway. which can usually be done for cheap depending on your service provider. if 1st gen ipod users want to upgrade their ipods for use with 4.0, their only option is to just buy a 2nd or 3rd gen ipod. no discounts or alternatives.
sorry for ruining everyones lives by referring to the upgrade program as an "trade in program." please forgive me, you weirdos.
@rekit Actually the first gen iPhones and iPod touches can upgrade but no multi tasking which I here is not true mutli tasking.

Anyone can get a free iPhone every year. It's called Craigslist. I have bought the 2g, 3g, and 3gs iPhones right after they were available. I sold the 2g and 3g phones right after the next model was available for MORE than I paid for the new phone. I plan to do the same thing this summer when the new iPhones are available.
Yes I get a new 2 year contract each year, but that does not matter since I make a profit each year when I sell the old phone and buy the new one.
@Sodapop if you can multitask, as in do things at once, as in open safari and have pandora playing, who cares if it's not true multitasking in the same way it works in os x. i mean, you want pandora open and safari.. cool. with true multitasking both windows are open and running… good luck managing that mess on the iphone screen.
@rekit You get a discounted price on iPhones in exchange for signing a contract with the phone company that guarantees them monthly revenue. They discount the phone to encourage you to keep paying them monthly.
You are not paying a service provider or signing a contract with an iPod touch. No company is going to give you a discounted phone out of charity. That is essentially what you are asking for.

@MoonWalkerCTE It definitely has working "multitasking" now. Its a resume from frozen
@RLBurkes Over all it makes iPhone os run very fast because any one used to old iPhone os will notice the speed improvement gained from quickly resuming over reloading. So far it's impressive much more so than previous 4.0
You NEED to install iPhone SDK 4.0 Beta 2 to be able to upgrade. iTunes refuses to install if the Beta 2 SDK isn't installed!

@DoctarPeppar well given iPad OS 4 is due Autumn (?) and iPhone OS 4 is due out summer, I think you've got a bit of a wait.
