Dell Lightning: the ultimate Windows Phone 7 device leaks out
Hot damn, people. The mother of all Dell leaks just dropped into our laps, and the absolute highlight has to be the Lightning, a Windows Phone 7 portrait slider. That's right -- a portrait slider. The renders on these slides look slick as hell, but they're no match for the spec sheet, which looks even better: 1GHz QSD8250 Snapdragon processor, WVGA 4.1-inch OLED display, AT&T and T-Mobile 3G, five megapixel autofocus camera, 1GB of flash with 512MB RAM plus 8GB of storage on a MicroSD card (non-user-replaceable, we're assuming), GPS, accelerometer, compass, FM radio, and full Flash support including video playback. We'll see what happens with that -- the ship date is pegged at Q4, indicating this is a WP7 launch device, and Microsoft's told us Flash won't make it into the OS initially. Here's the real kicker, though -- other slides in the deck indicate this thing is getting an upgrade to LTE in Q4 of 2011. Are we stoked? Yes, you might say that. Check out all the slides in the gallery below, and check out the rest of this storm of leaks right here.

@ajac09
Seconded, nowhere as nice as the new iPhone. Can't wait until June.
Life Maximizers? Lol.
Too bad its Dell.
The Zune Phone has arrived people.
@thrash1256
LOL! Zune Phone... FAIL.
I'll wait for the new iPhone.
Let's hope some one decide to put Android 2.2 in that.
Why not dual boot with an unactivated trial version of windows?
So that atfer the first few days no one will want to boot into windows again :P and still had the choice without paying for a failed OS. And after all the windows partition space could be usefull for android Apps ;)
@(Unverified) You must be one of those users that plague XDA on the Windows Mobile forums pushing for Android on a WinMo phone because you're tired of WinMo after 2 days of use. In other words...
shut up and buy an Android phone!
@JerryE
I do have a Nexus One, even though it is still not available in my country.
i ran out of breath reading all those features, i think i'm in love
Nah, I'll wait for the new iPhone. It looks awesome.
@MacRules - And it will have a smaller display than the 3GS. Faster, sure. But a smaller screen? C'mon, Apple...
@Cwill127
Slightly smaller, but higher res. Awesome.
@MacRules What's the point of a high res small screen? That's like a 32" 1080p TV.
@RichS
It's like 1-2 mm smaller. Not even noticeable. But like twice the res. And It looks great. Can't wait.
@RichS
Anyway, Like I wrote before...
Nah, I'll wait for the new iPhone. It looks Awesome!
@MacRules
New iPhone FTW!
looks promising
Life Maximizers.
That's a quip if I've ever heard one.
@FluffMuff
Life Maximisers are ironically people who spend all their time on the Net.
And tomorrow HTC leaks the "Fantastic Incredible" running Android, and the same readers will say "bye bye Dell, Fantastic Incredible FTW".
Amazing, just amazing.
Now that is one sexy looking mofo.
This phone looks pretty sweet, but my Zune HD has taught me that I don't want a smartphone with an OLED screen.
@Fish Face McGee why's that?
@medicmechanic They're pretty much impossible to see in direct sunlight.
@LoganT Do you live at the equator? In New York, it's fine.
@tkrow21
I don't live at the Equator, but if it's sunny outside, I can barely read the screen. It's ok for an MP3 player because most of the time all I'm doing is pausing a podcast or song, but the second I need to navigate the UI, I need to wait until I'm indoors. Unless this phone has Samsung's Super OLED, I won't be getting it.
This phone should be labeled with Kin. It could be a major selling point for Windows. Dell has come a long ways from those old boxes :).
We know one Engadget editor who's gonna love this with the portrait keyboard :P
Dell?? Is that a typo or did Dell really create that sexy lady! >:P
@EddieN
lady? Nah, its a phone
@EddieN
Dell has actually come out with some very sexy laptops in recent years.
My XPS Studio 13 is one of the best laptops I've ever had. And, it's in red.
Hot damn...
Uh...does anyone else think they just Photoshopped in a screenshot of the Zune HD software onto the screen?
@soren121 It makes you think that because both screenshots of Zune HD and this phone have the black eyed peas cover on it - the green head
@soren121
Yes, so what ?
@soren121 that is pretty much what the windows 7 phone OS is.. its the zuneHD software on steroids
@thebballkid It made me think so because I can replicate that exact screenshot on my Zune. Where are all the WP7 blocks?
@soren121 this is a screenshot from within the music block of windows phone 7, so naturally it would only show the zune interface, and not the other aspects of windows phone 7
@tdawg15 I also see Internet and Settings on the main menu to the right of the screen. Why would those be in the Music section?
Gotta love all the cool phones coming to the CONSUMERS.. Microsoft might finally have one here, and I am an Android guy..
Microsoft aint playing anymore!!! its great for the consumer bc apple, google, palm, RIM, are gonna have to be on their best behavior, just bc of the amount of CASH microsoft can throw at something
@HighestRanked2
Agreed, Win Mobile = FAIL.
Dell should include free international calls to India with every purchase of this phone for "easy" customer service access.
Why are tell making phones?
Q4 of 2011?! Those specs will be old news by then. Maybe they meant Q4 2010.
@TheOrioles33
Those specs are dated for Q4 2010, in line with WP7 launch.
The upgrade to LTE is pegged for Q4 2011.
Why are dell making phones?
@marceyb Dell is making phones, because they can, and there is a market for it.
nice looking phone....take note PALM
Lolz nice this is the phone I want for now from wp7, if HTC doesn't win me with something more than incredible this will be it :)
Why the assumption that the 8GB microSD is non user replaceable?
The text says "MicroSD card slot, 8GB microSD". Sounds like it just comes with an 8GB card.
