We'd already heard that Dell was
working on larger tablets, and
tonight's huge leak brought us tons of info on the
Looking Glass, a seven-inch big brother to the
Streak 5 that's due out in November. For starters, it's running Android 2.1 on a
Tegra 2 processor, with an optional TV tuner module so you can watch ATSC or DVB-T programming on the seven-inch 800x480 display -- the same resolution as the Streak, which is sort of weak. In addition, the render on the slide shows an AT&T U-verse browser, though, which is interesting -- too bad there's no more info about it. RAM is pegged at 4GB, with another 4GB of flash for storage and an SDHC slot for up to 32GB of expansion, and there's a 1.3 megapixel camera. Yep, it's pretty much just a bigger Streak with a different, potentially awesomer processor -- imagine how slick you'll look with this bad boy held to your face on a call.
Who is this awesome new company with amazing and rediculously sexy new wares and what did they do with Dell?
They need to bring Dell dude back!!!
Exactly what I've been waiting for. I'm very much looking forward to this one.
X5 COMBOOOOOO
i fucks wit michael dell heavyyy
dey gets all my monies
is whats pictured on their just a render?or hulu app?=D
Ahh I was hoping that this would be a Tegra 2 powered smartphone :(
Probably like the streak you can make calls with it, but it is too big to carry in your pocket
4gb of RAM? But why??
@zillah
fast
is the camera in the front the 1.3mp? any back camera?
So uh....I don't want to read all of this dell news.....
Where is my iPhone news?
4GB of RAM, really? Certainly you mean ROM!
@brnkcv
They printed 4GB RAM and 4GB ROM, i seriously think its an error, but will go crazy if its really shipped with 4G RAM!!
Is Dell going all out tonight?
"Introducing...the Dell Gangbang."
Well its got to be better than the apple gimick but I'm still not sure where the tablet fits in the market other than just a fun thing.
IPAD KILLER.. Just feels good saying that..
@Mrwirez
It's funny because if apple made the iPad have have cr@ppy tech like this thing does people would actually have an excuse to hate the iPad. For now we'll just leave it to fanboys that hate apple because their mom made them eat apples when they were little...or whatever reason they like to use. This thing from Dell is more like a fisher price killer.
@SiLeNt KNighT
lmao @ fisher price killer.
@SiLeNt KNighT
yeah, i mean, this things camera SUCKS compared to the ipads, oh wait...
yeah, just repeat that sentence, but for everything the ipad contains :)
ipad is poor quality, old processor, poor ram, lack of connectivity (both wirelessly and wired versions :)) and rip off software.
but heck, obviously this thing sucks compared to it...
@SiLeNt KNighT
We don't care about truth, reality and specifications, Apple simply rulez no-matter what! Even Dell's slate wins on all fronts and even back, but Fanboys still can make IPAD rulez!!
So much Dell today!!!
(engadget. com/blockdell
Hate to nickpick, but the slide say 4Gb for RAM and Flash, while 32GB for removable...
That's 4Gb is 512 megaBYTES guys... which is more reasonable though.
Why are all of Dell's thins on AT&T? I mean, is there anybody out there who actually likes AT&T? I don't think so. There phones are great, but who cares about the phones when you can't call on them?
@HowardtheDuck
I rarely have problems with AT&T. When Verizon gets 8 million new iPhone users per quarter i guarantee they won't seem as "dependable". iPhones account for over .5% of all Internet usage while the Android market as a whole accounts for .04%. Huuuuuge difference in bandwidth.
Dell is dealing.
The only bad thing I see here is that all of those frequencies are to be AT&T, that's a bad thing.
Now that Sun is owned by Oracle, I'd be scared of releasing something called like that..
800 x 480? Thanks for playing Mr. Dell, you and your "optional TV tuner" (LOL) can go home now.
Screw the Mini 5. I am getting this 7" Dell tablet instead.
Their mobile efforts are admirable, but will a sizable portion of the population actually buy any of these products? My guess is no. Their product line-up seems convoluted. Sure, choice is a good thing, but when a slew of products are offered, customer service and quality control typically go out the window.
The spec sheet has to be wrong. A resolution of 800x480 at 7" running on a Tegra2? At that resolution on a screen that size you'd easily be able to distinguish individual pixels. It would look horrible and make text virtually unreadable. And that resolution certainly wouldn't require the use of Tegra2. My guess is you guys misread the resolution but got the correct SoC.
@politicalslug
I stand corrected. The spec sheet is all over the place though. Giving memory sizes in gigabits instead of gigabytes. And seriously, this screen is going to look like utter garbage with a resolution that low on a screen that large. Perhaps the PR folks making the announcement screwed up.
Why all these tablets hitting market so hard after iPad release? Why does it have to be after Apple does something? There were touch screen phones there before but iPhone changed the market. There were tablets there before but iPad will change the market. Good luck for Dell. As much as it sucks with its support hopefully it doesn't disappoint its costumers again. You go all PC fanboys, it does have everything that you cried about that iPad doesn't have now it better take over the world.
I wonder if a Dell engineer will lose one of these tablets in a bar and Gizmodo will buy it..
Looks really great, is actually something I'm interested in. At 7", it would be a great device for around the house. Recipes, watching news while eating breakfast in bed, quickly showing someone a video "they have to see" on youtube, even comfortable browsing the web on the couch. We'll have to see which size works best for this (5", 7", 10").
They've got to up the resolution on that thing.
The TV tuner accessory looks to be of dubious value, at least in my area... ATSC reception is tenuous at best, given the relatively low transmitter power, short range, high directionality, and the all-or-nothing nature of digital broadcasts. Even with an external antenna.
NILAY PATEL you say : imagine how slick you'll look with this bad boy held to your face on a call.
but i think that it is not true because in specifications i can not see that dell streak 7 inch can call , gsm/umts mobile??
dell streak 5 inch , yes can call , but dell streak 7 inch not call
and a-gps use 3g, dell 7 inch have not gps
dell 5 inch yes hace gps and agps
dell streak dvb-t not internal are external optional i can read.
