HP stuffs Core i3 / i5 into TouchSmart PCs, gently revamps other desktops
Down for a solid spate of updates? Wipe that sleep from your eye and listen up, then. HP's pushing out a list of updates tonight across a rather strange combination of desktops, so we won't waste any time breaking it down. The standouts of the bunch are the revamped TouchSmart PCs, with both the TouchSmart 300 and 600 getting a dose of Core i3 / i5, some sort of "Beats Audio" inclusion and a suite of software that you may or may not wish to keep loaded on. Starting tags on these are listed at $799 and $1,099, respectively. Moving on, there's the All-in-One 200-5020, a $699 (and up) machine with a 21.5-inch 1080p display, Windows 7, built-in WiFi, an optional keyboard / mouse, DVD burner, integrated webcam and MediaSmart software bundle. For the suits in attendance, there's the HP Compaq 6005 Pro Ultra Slim, which measures 10-inches high and 2.6-inches wide, includes ATI's Radeon 4200 GPU and sports a $599 starting point. The whole lot should be available by the month's end if you find something you like.

These all in ones always has mobile graphic cards, which make it very laptopy, so why should i buy one when actually could i rather buy a good notebook and portable too?
@HydroRage
I could instead of could I
@HydroRage
Does your notebook have a 22" monitor?
These certainly aren't for everyone and at $1000 I don't see the market. But, as prices drop on these all in ones ($300-500 range) I can definitely see the advantage of them over notebooks. I'd definitely have one in my kitchen for streaming content while cooking, looking up recipes, checking my calendar, etc. My issue is that I don't need an i7 processor (and the associated cost increase) to do those things. Giving less horsepower and a lower price and you'll have a happy camper.
@HydroRage
Here's a typical sham wow guy answer, "Well it IS portable, you can take it anywhere, you just need a power outlet. And it has a state of the art touch input device with wireless, that means NO WIRES ladies and gentlemen. And as a bonus you get this beautiful and magical hummingbird picture as a FREE wallpaper"
@bjsguess
I'm a little confused by your comment. You were describing a completely different machine than the one in the article. This post shows us an i3/i5 processor and a starting price of $599. The i3 is definitely not an expensive processor.
So, are you going to get one for your kitchen?
@LloydChiro The pro slim is $599, the touch is $1099
pleasing . . . where are my envy 14 and 17? I was told Tuesday gosh dang it. maybe there was some sort of 4/20 related holdup?
with a tv tuner thrown in they are damned good bedroom PCs. You get a bedroom friendly 23" HD display, with DVR functionality, multimedia apps, and connections for a crapload of peripherals. The market exists...trust me.
HP? *yawn. Wake me up when they start shipping a real Windows DVD with their systems. Heck, HP doesn't even include a restore DVD. You have to burn the restore DVDs yourself from the restore partition.
Wow, what a massive step backward. I remember manufacturers trying to pull this crap in the '90s. Yeah, because when I wipe my system, I want to reinstall all the CRAPWARE that necessitated the wipe in the first place.
Don't vote for this garbage with your dollars.
Darnit HP, wheres the Slate at?
Did you know that "where's" means "where is"?
So, "Where's the Slate?" means "Where is the Slate?"
Why did you put "at" at the end?
The HP All-in-One 200 is not a touchscreen.
touchscreens ftw!
Yeah, because waving your arms around in front of you the whole time you're working on a computer is a great idea.
The TouchSmart PCs really interest me. Optical sensors are far better than capacitive.
Hmm...wonder if my local Best Buy or Fry's has any I could play around with.
@jgp Trust me, the touch sensor SUCKS. It is wayyyy to sensitive, if I'm smoking a cig and I blow smoke at the screen it registers a zillion points. You don't have to actually touch the screen, the sensor is like a few mm's off from the screen. It is great for TV and DVR purposes but other then that I regret purchasing it instead of getting a much better tower for less money.
The one thats in the picture of the article actually looks decent. If it is cheaper than an iMac by $500+ dollars I'd get it, just for my sister. Also one for the kitchen so I can look shit up while I cook :) I already have a custom Haf932 case with an foxconn bloodrage and an 980x btw BC2 is soooo freaking sweet! :D
the ugliest desktop ever.
I love the touch screen gimmick to make money of consumers...real power users/nerds wouldn't trade the board and mouse for anything.
I can make a descent bedroom pc for around that price with a 24" 1080p panel...
I love its style! you cannot compare this to a notebook or a laptop because this is designed to be a desktop. slim sleek and trendy. touch screen features are great.
Good and Evil
Buried as spam.
I'm usually not a fan of these all in one devices, considering you can get a lot of lightweight micro-desktops and then have a world of monitor (or multimonitor) setups available.... BUT, HP's touchscreen devices are second to none.
If I didn't already have an excellent kitchen computer, this would be it.
Geez. That thing is frighteningly identical to an iMac.
@lycosman : I looked at it, and I thought that Apple had just took a wrong turn.....
Utter BS and you know it. This is basically a small computer that hangs from a mount on the back of a monitor. The two are separable; look at the pictures.
If you think this thing looks like an iMac, I have some "HD" video to sell you.
It looks like an ugly black-plastic-ten-years-backward version of an iMac
Did anyone mention the "legendary" reliability of HP's consumer PC line yet? LOL, I wouldn't touch this thing with a 10 foot stick.
Wow, I've barely had my touchsmart for a year and now these ones come out. Though the onlything i don't loke about mine is no way to hook up a second monitor. At least hp got the w7 multitouch drivers out
