Hero owners, look away now. Google's
Froyo appears to be almost ready to exit the freezer and enter handsets on an official basis. Since April 7,
Android and Me have noticed visits from devices identifying themselves as having
Android version 2.2 on board, while German site
MobiFlip.de has come across pictures of a T-Mobile myTouch 3G (aka
HTC Magic) that is supposedly running the latest software. The images are certainly easy to spoof (including a wonky looking .2), but their timing and our eternal optimism invite some attention. They indicate a new option for automatically pulling down app updates from the ether, which would be kinda neat, while
Android and Me have also compiled a list of other rumored new features for Android 2.2 and confirmed with "sources familiar with the matter" that the new OS is indeed being tested right now. Their tip is to gaze expectantly toward the Google I/O conference starting on May 19 when we're sure to learn at least a little bit more. Considering Android 2.0 got a full
features demo at that meetup last year, chances are good that Froyo will be on show in just under a month's time.
HTC needs to wake up and start releasing some updates to their phones. By the time they update their phones to 2.1. 2.2 will already be out lol
Fake Fake Fake.
To say that the "2" looks "wonky" is an understatement. When you zoom in on it, it's not only off-center, but the "2" isn't even a font match. Same goes for the other "2" in the picture at the bottom that says "Build Number"
I can't believe you guys posted this without using the KIRF moniker.
KIRF version...
Can't wait to see on the Moto forums 200 people posting with "When are we getting 2.2?".
The fact that it's running on a Magic is good news, that means 2.2 will run decently on a DROID
Meanwhile many are still waiting restlessly for 2.1.
Smart phones have a long, long way to go. I wish the Android updates were simple - like Microsoft Windows updates - they all come at the same time regardless of what components and 3rd party software are installed on your computer.
@liamdevlin
"like Microsoft Windows updates"
agreed
froyo better make the whole OS look like the gallery app, the keyboard should be much better (just rip off the iphone come on), and ya automatic app updates or at least an update all button would be nice. And also make tables do the bounce at the end, its so much easier to know your at the bottom.
I have the hero and it says build version and not android version so I think it's a hoax.
That picture is photoshopped, he/she didn't do the 2 in "Build Number" as well as he/she did the 2 in "Version number".
@Programmer
Oops I mean "Android Version"
red arrow pointing at 2.2 definitely looks fake. Not even pointing at the number, pointing at the hr break
Just wanted to say that a picture showing the "2.2" is no proof at all. It's actually extremely easy to change that number on android. You just need to change the "ro.build.version.release" number. I could make it look like my g1 was running android 2000.2 if I wanted.
Im just happy to see 2. anything on a mytouch.
Here's a few items that may be in the 2.2 update.
JIT compiler (confirmed)
Free additional RAM (from newer 2.6.32 Linux kernel)
OpenGL ES 2.0 enhancements
Flash 10.1 support (1H 2010)
Fixed problem with “crazy screen” / Resolution of cross multitouch
Activation of Color Trackball
Enable FM radio
I really hope they fix the Bluetooth support with the next update, voice dialing via bluetooth without touching the phone is very important.
Root is all you need. XD
