If you're a
Pre or
Pre Plus owner who has been watching longingly as we've covered the recent spread of
overclocking hacks for the thing, but didn't quite feel up to wading through page after page of forum discussions to figure out just how to apply them, the process just got a easier. Like, a
whole lot easier. Super PreKernel enables you to go to 550, 600, 720, and even 800MHz with just a single tap. And, when it's time to put on those fake glasses and play Clark Kent, you can drop back down to 500MHz just as easily. It's all thanks to a number of Palm-loving hackers who have put together a truly moving video demonstration of the whole process that's embedded below. We encourage you to enjoy it now, because the selection of copyrighted musical accompaniment for the clip will probably result in it surviving about as long as a bottle of Superman's chosen hair product.
Update: We got a note from caj2008 that an
updated version has been released, this one fixing a few issues and offering better compatibility with OS 1.4.0, 1.4.1, and 1.4.2.
I've been running the 800MHz patch for over a month now! AWESOME! battery life is NOT affected! I don't even run the battery monitor anymore! webOS is AWESOME, hardware is not so hot... my last week with the Pre Plus as I already pre ordered my Droid Incredible... can't wait till next Thurs!
@ruddogg
TRADER!!! JK EVO looks sexy also.
@Seven2k
I believe you meant "TRAITOR". Unless, of course, you were referring to ruddogg trading his Pre Plus for a Droid Incredible. If so, my apologies.
@Anders
oops that what i meant...sorry i was trying to install that new SUPER kernel. I was gitty.
Been running the 800 MHz patch for a few weeks also now and it flies. Palm just needs to make this a stock upgrade on their next round of updates.
God, I've forgotten how much I love this music.
Oh, also, I've been using 800 MHz for a while and it is awesome.
Go Lehigh!
Burn it with fire!
Wish I had a Pre :(
Pffft Pre's are so over.
Where's the Pre 2???????????
Dying for some new hardware from Palm.
Well this makes me feel a little better. I need a new phone right now, and I want to switch to sprint. I do like the pre, but I kinda feel weird getting such old hardware when the EVO 4G will be coming out in a month or two.. but I really can't afford to wait at all... so at least this will make the pre feel a bit newer.
