There's already a voicemail upon the unboxing? Probably Rubenstein saying "Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda"
this isn't really any big news... Palm is dying... they can't even sell themselves... HTC just dropped plans to bid on them...
@mi canuck Don't you look stupid now?
This is awesome news! I've had my Pre since launch day and it just gets better! With Precentral developers pimping my phone out I have become the "go to" cell phone guy at work. Hell, I have seen the Palm Pre out and about in the last few weeks than I have all year. They must be doing something right! Go Palm!
T-Mobile next? Palm would be foolish not to..
So which is better WebOS or android????
@DallasB
Until WebOS runs on better hardware, we will never know.
WebOS is good and should be given a chance.
Palm, you suck at hardware!
(Launch day Palm Pre with a loose battery and a USB Door Crack)
@DallasB WebOS is much more visually appealing and more intuitive. We just need to see what hardware palm has been working fast and furious on.
@DallasB
Your question is simply about the OS, so ignoring all hardware problems, I would definitely say WebOS is better. WebOS has pretty much everything that android has going for it (other than the number of users) but it has a much more intuitive slick interface. It's multitasking is second to none. All of the apps (while not quite as many as android) are all high quality, similar to how the iphone's are (except most are useful or actually fun) while android has some high quality apps, and others not so nice. WebOS is also superior in gaming to android phones.
And finally, for the more geeky person, WebOS almost has a better hacking community than android does, even though it has far less users.
@DallasB not gonna say which is best because i think both are good. but i've used both and preferred webos. the thing that puts me off with android it fragmentation. after years of using a winmo phone i really don't want to deal with that anymore.
Why on earth would AT&T even bother releasing this phone! Would have been cool about a year ago, but now? The phone I just very old news, and the software is kind of dated! AT&T is really not listening to there customers, and is following in the footsteps of Sprint. Well the old Sprint, nowadays Sprint looks to be doing right by there customers by offering a pretty wide variety of phones and platforms. AT&T offers nothing as far as Android goes, and that is a big mistake!
Maybe they will make more creepy ads aimed at the artsy metro sexual crowd...
Sorry to ruin the occasion.
#1 WebOS
#2 Apple OS
#3 Android
I just hope the release date is not going to be too close to the iphone 4G release...
I don't understand Palm's logic. There're going to release new hardware this summer. However, they bring the dated Pre to AT&T now? Summer is a few months away. Makes no sense.
@derekdevine because they're losing everything slowly. So they release it Anywhere they can if Yu haven't noticed. They're trying to get something going so they don't lose it all.
I hope al goes well with it all.
Awesome! More the merrier.
WebOs is certainly not outdated software. Its the most elegant os I've seen. I love Android tons as we'll but its about as elegant as Chevy Chase's ass.
anyone who wanted the Pre has already bought one at this point ... Palm needs to release new hardware if they want to generate some interest
@darthgault ... sorry that is NOT a true statement. I'm on AT&T and have been waiting for it to come to AT&T since I first heard about it at CES Expo 2009. My AT&T contract ended two weeks ago. Now I'm waiting for Sprint C40 (hope it's 4G with 4.1" screen and 1ghz processor, 1GB RAM, 16-32GB storage). If it turns out to be another Pre Plus but for Sprint, then I will may end up getting AT&T Pre Plus.
what's with the "don't bother" sentiment? palm deserves a spot on every carrier's lineup. the pre and the pixi are still better than all the lackluster samsung and LG phones running proprietary OS's. in my opinion, there is little reason for anyone in need of a web-centric phone to buy anything other than an iphone, android or palm device.
HTC has no love for Pre :P
I really hate that Palm released such a great phone when it did. There is just too much competition from Motorola, HTC, and Apple for this phone to succeed.
compared with IP , Blackberry and Android, WebOS had totally been out of game.........
the acquisition is the only thing I concerned about Palm.
HTC & Lenovo are good buyers, good for Palm~
Does this "Plus" have a glass screen this time?
No? Still plastic?
Oh, Palm.
Stop bitching! Also, stop acting like because we dont have new hardware yet there wont be a place for the Pre. So do you suggest that when a new phone comes out they stop selling the Pre? NO. Thats how you accumulate a roster of products. The AT&T launch is a good thing. There will be more devices soon. In the meanwhile, if your really a Palm fan, upgrade to the Pre Plus when it comes to your respective carrier and shut the f*** up. You little f***ers need of too much instant gratification.
This is like having a Porsche that releases ricin into the air conditioning system whenever you turn it on. Pre Plus = good, AT&T = cancer.
WAY too late Palm.
No one wants a 19 month old design. Ridiculous.
It's time for some new hardware.
A) Bigger screen.
B) A design without a hardware keyboard.
@Johnny Rockets try 10 months. the phone has been available for 19 months. we tend to forget here at engadget that most people are pouring over gadget blogs all day and therefore haven't been following most gadgets since announced. the launch date is really what matters.
For those interested, the phone will be on sale Saturday, May 1st in California. I'm not sure about nationwide.
What exactly is ATT crippling on this?
@POZ
Nothing. It looks like the only additional app is Navigator. There's certainly nothing wrong with that.
Even Sprint is laughing now.
A little too late for Palm IMO.
i dont feel sorry for palm. the cell phone game has changed and you need to release new hardware at least every year to keep up. i really dont understand why they didnt release a new device.
I ditched my 3GS, and waiting for this. (Currently I am using a Samsung impression
