One more thing... two iPod touch prototypes with camera briefly show up on eBay
Another day, another Apple leak. This time it's an eBay double whammy of the camera-donning iPod touch, which appears to be of the same design from August but now with iPod branding on the back. Better yet, the two devices bear the prototype identification codes "DVT-1" and "DVT-2" ("DVT" stands for "design verification test" in Apple-speak, according to Daring Fireball), while the DVT-2 model wears an extra bar code label seemingly stamped by the "Apple Development Team." What's interesting is that the model number "A1318" at the bottom matches the current iPod touch's, which may suggest the camera feature was ditched just before the current line went into mass production, or that we may see this variant as a minor update instead of a redesigned iPod touch in the coming months. We tried to verify using the FCC ID "BCGA1318," only to be let down by a kaput FCC database -- we'll give it another spin later. Unsurprisingly, the eBay listing was quickly taken down, but it's not like any mere mortal could've gotten much use out of that Transformer-themed (and familiar-looking) "SwitchBoard" test-bed software -- maybe it was a displeased Michael Bay who killed the auction. A couple of backside shots after the break.

Wasn't one if them not running iPhone OS?
one of them is running the diagnostic os that apple loads on prototypes and test produts
@Edmunn I'm probably close to being an 'Apple fanboy' and even I'm getting tired of the Apple news.
At least I don't read Gizmodo who seem to be Apple central. Getting everything they can out of that stupid prototype iPhone. Every damn post they have ends with 'read the iPhone prototype saga!'.. Give it a rest already. We see it now or we see it in june..
I'm really glad engadget passed on the story btw.
Engadget > Gizmodo
A bookface "like" button, and a bookface activity page!?
KILL IT WITH FIRE!
@werty1432k
If you think Gizmodo is bad about Apple products, just imagine if Wired got their hands on the iPhone prototype...
@werty1432k
www.engadget.com/exclude/apple
@Edmunn It's the iPad nano!
@werty1432k
If you paid $5,000 for an actual iPhone prototype and ran a tech news site, wouldn't YOU want to get your money's worth?
@bravokiloromeo
Bought their magazine the other week and wasn't prepared at all for the ass kissing that was the iPad review, they called it the most innovative gadget in decades. What a load of bollocks.
@DougieBear Yup gotta love it. GIANT IPOD TOUCH WITH 3G IS GODLY! BOW DOWN!
@Edmunn
Call me when an ipod with tits shows up.
A touch model, possibly.
@Dragonfire
But you must understand, the reason Gizmodo paid $5000 is because the person who had the phone approached both Engadget AND Gizmodo with blurry pictures of the phone. You see, GIzmodo paid 5k because engadget ,mustve bid around $4,500.
Thats why engadget "leaked" the blurry "is this the 4g iphone? Heres proof!" article two days before Gizmodo did.
@Edmunn
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL, - so what is the big news???????????
The word leak it's getting so lame now.
@werty1432k
Apple Haters one and all..
Go to another website. It doesn't matter where. Just stop trolling Engadget.
Engadget will continue to post Apple news regardless of your bitching.
@werty1432k
It wasn't the story, it was the device itself. They got the story (from Gizmodo) and showed it, they just didnt buy the device when they had the chance, which makes me love Engadget all the more. Especially with Gizmodo linking to porn and crap, thats just,..., i don't wanna spend my time there.
@TheLondonExchange
I like how in other comments you call LAY Microsoft's shill and yet your quick to defend apple and call people apple haters who aren't even speaking negatively about them.
And you say you not an apple fanboy.
@n8equalsd If they failed to launch a new product at the last minute, they blew it.
@Edmunn
Anyone notice the reflection of the guy who took the picture for the listing? Appears to be wearing a Scream mask. Hilarious.
Finally !!!
@DefPoet
The model number suggests that this is last years model with a camera, so it just means that they took a camera away from it, which we already knew. This doesn't mean that the next iPod Touch will have a camera.
@fromtheyear :: Great, thanks for adding how useless this front page post is...
@loox42
(a) quit trolling
(b) you've commented "front page" twice on this post -- how out of touch are you?
(c) there is no fight club
@DefPoet
Ok now I'm seriously pissed off.
I was going to buy a iPhone 2010 design iPod Touch 4th Gen, with a front facing camera (and ideally rear too).
Now I'm just hoping they appeared on eBay because the design has been scrapped.
@loox42
Why do people constantly whine about posts being front page? EVERYTHING is front page when it first gets posted, then later it's pushed down by newer articles.
@Dafrety Because they are whiners.
@DefPoet
NON-NEWS!
@Dafrety omg your post is on the first page of the comments....
i agree if you dont like it being on the first page. dont read engadget everyday then. i love this site and wish there was forums here
@DefPoet ive had an ipod touch with a camera for years... its called an iphone, oh and it makes calls!!!! i guess im not really interested in buying something i already have, but then again ive never really understood the appeal of apple
@loox42
check back tomorrow, this post will be either at the bottom of the page, or on page 2
Apple really needs to step up their security this year.
@yoavraccah I like their security as is! I love seeing these prototypes
@iHakr :: Honestly, I don't like Apple much but whats to love here? The iPad photos leaked I can see... but this? There's nothing to look at but some crappy camera phone pictures of an iphone with a camera hole.... who really cares?
@yoavraccah
Public executions next?
@loox42
Maybe the 45 million people who have iPod touches?
@newone I've got a bad feeling about this
@Lord Vader The more Apple Security (a.k.a. "Steve and The Keystone Cops") tightens their grip, the more unreleased products and prototypes will slip through their fingers...
@loox42 Quite a lot of people, judging by the comments(positive and negative) on almost every Apple story.
I guess a lot of the haters are secret fans, but don't want to tarnish their 'rep'. ;-)
Seems like Apple are trying to differentiate between the iphone and ipod touch design. Which is nice, I suppose.
@TheLeprachaun :> Yeah, I wonder how this even got the front page... I'm beginning to think Apple pays Engadget(AOL?) for these well placed "articles"
@loox42 yes, because Engadget debuts new post on page two.
Do you even know how a blog functions?
@loox42
That wasn't really my point loox42. I just meant that apple seem to be keeping the current design for the next ipod touch, while they're redesigning the new iphone, in effect, making the iphone more than just an ipod touch with phone capabilities.
@MisterSquared
NO he doesn't I also guess that engadget should not post something that has been posted on every major tech site and lose the consumer clicks to their page............. sounds like a sound business practice to me /s
@DefPoet To quote him "Honestly, I don't like Apple much" that's an understatement, he's a troll with a lack of internet advertising business acumen.
@TheLeprachaun
I disagree. I'm extremely dissappointed the designs different.
I was all set to replace my (First gen) iPod Touch for a new one, if it were the same design as the iPhone.
Partly because I don't like the curvey back (Bluetooth + tinny speaker doesn't make up for a curved back IMO) and partly because THE NEW DESIGN IS B_E_A_UTIFUL!
I'll say again, I just hope that it's on eBay because they've had a case redesign - and added in a front camera.
@FORDY
I'm with you on the new iphone design being sweet but I think its great that they seem to seperating the iphone design and the ipod design.
It doesn't really matter a whole lot for me though, since I just bought and ipad and my 1st gen ipod touch does me fine. I'll be getting the DELL Lightning for my next phone as well so I can't see me buying another apple portable device until a least a few years, when I'm sure both the iphone and ipod touch design will have changed a lot.
@HighestRanked2
How can you call him a turd. You're just as bad. >.>
Someone got drunk and posted it on Ebay?
@Waroxy
someone wanted their username to be found so someone could message them with a offer
@DefPoet But this one is not worth $5000, not even close to $500.
@Waroxy This listing (250617991364) has been removed, or this item is not available.
I think the guy waked up. Not drunk anymore.
