Additional trophy sorting and 3D gaming readiness should have been enough to satisfy and PS3 owner after the latest v3.30 system update (hey, at least it didn't
take anything away this time) but there's a couple other surprises in store. If you're the kind of person who loves (or hates) their beeps and bloops, there's a toggle for Bitstream Direct (output audio with the original digital signal prioritized) or Mix (mixed with sound effects such as button sounds and then converted to bitstream format) on Blu-ray movies, while future VAIO PC owners can get a taste of remote play without
any PSP intermediary. Other, unconfirmed, reports include updated Flash compatibility, enhanced region free Blu-ray movie playback, the
usual complaints of bricked or otherwise busted consoles as well as erroneous claims of an updated EULA that maintains Sony can update your PS3 whenever it wants (newsflash - it's always said that.) Sure, you can always wait for a
custom build from Geohot instead, but we've got a Fat Princess to rescue.
Cool
@Scincidae
Its a sad day when a company needs to release a firmware update for a gaming console to advertise for a laptop...
Sony, you are dead to me now.
@uHorndog Because advertising is in any way new? This is a way to get everyone to notice your product, thus smart.
@scots79
Oh really?
Just because you like potatoes from Zehrs doesnt mean you will like their toothpaste..
This form of advertising is false, they are aiming at a community that has absolutely no interest in portable and expensive laptops.
@uHorndog
Are you seriously saying that no one with a PS3 could possibly be interested in a Sony laptop? How f-ing thick are you? The diversity of the PS3 community is huge! I don't understand how you get off making sweeping generalizations like that
@Scincidae
Cool nerdy gaming chick. Mmmm....
@Kurian
If somehow we can use PC hardware instead of PS3 hardware to run the game, I'd kiss Sony's ass. All the good games are on the PS3...... but lacks quality compared to PC.
And why VAIO? Someone hack this firmware.
@Scincidae
Yeah, look at how trendy and hip the people in that ad are. It must be cool. I must have it, so that I too can have the lifestyle of a young urbanite.
why can't we just remote play with any PC, not just Viao braded ones. That doesn't entice me to buy a Viao, Sony...
@DefusedHero
Vaio... sigh.
*edit button, no?*
@DefusedHero Probably will get hacked soon.
@DefusedHero
Its just a PC application that comes bundled with the Vaio.
MAC OSX and PC users can use Open Remote Play.
@Temple Open Remote Play was blocked a long time ago
I think there was already a hack for this
@mateo124
there was but you needed a psp connected to computer making it too much trouble but with only the need for a computer its better now
wow first time i read an article with barely a comment yet
now anyway i just want someone to customize the remote play for vaio to work with any computer with windows and mac/linux
.mkv support next....please..
@Glen Quagmire
.MKV is a contain that can contain any codec in it. Sony doesn't want to add all the codecs in existence.
@Glen Quagmire MKVs are mostly just H264 and MPEG4 files with AAC multi-stream audio. And MKV2VOB just repakages them into a .mpg. Playing .MKV shouldn't be ANY problem. Of course, ALL SONY(well any) BLURAY RIPS are released on MKV, so I don't see Sony wanting to kill their own movie market. BUT SUBTITLE support for mpg would be killer!
@Evi1d33d You don't have to support the codec to support the container.
@cloud858rk Then whats the point of supporting the codec. The only time I use .mkv is when I illegally download HD versions of movies cuz I'm too poor to purchase expensive blu-ray versions of movies that I have already seen. Which makes Sony's position make sense...people like me.
@Cheesus Crust
Well if it's so simple it should be easy for PS3 to support then, just another container right? Anyway, mkv2vob crashes on my HD-DVD rips (yes I own the originals and made the rips myself), so there's no way to watch those movies without rebuying.
@Glen Quagmire Does it? Have you tried Handbrake? It'll take forever( I have a 3.2Ghz C2Q and it still takes a while). At least you wouldn't have to rebuy
I hope it will be a download for other PCs as well
Whats up with the stupid hipsters?
@PancakeMix because its from the UK.
@PancakeMix Its the UK.
@winner00
its the UK
@PancakeMix
U K?
@PancakeMix .. Because no one wants to see fat, ugly geeks in ads.
I know it sucks for you :(
@PancakeMix
It's called style
@KarlW
ass hat style
Can I Haz open platform please? All this talk about wanting Apple to be more open makes me wish the PS3 and the others more open.
@Teslanaut
You can use any headset you want. You can use any keyboard or mouse you want. You can use any USB Mini cables you want. You can use any 2.5 inch hard drive you want.
Compared to the 360 and Wii it's the most open console ever.
@Teslanaut
The PS3 IS open...hell, you can even load linu....
Nevermind.
@Teslanaut
Also you can use any USB controller you want. Seriously just plug in your PC gamepad and it'll work.
@Teslanaut Now when I said Open Platform, I meant to be allowed to get games from other people, like in Android or Windows or OS X or Linux. Not needing to have to hack the firmware or install Linux (Of which most people can no longer do) just to do 3rd party things. Like have an alternate media player that supports more formats.
Since when are Hipsters interested in buying this stuff?
@Otto MCR Since they realized they're our bitches in COD and enjoy taking it from our gunfire.
@dragonfli Wow! I didn't realise COD was that close to real life!
@Otto MCR I think it's because every man women and child (and teenager) dresses
like this in Britain.
I'm assuming this is a British advert.
@GeorgeRobo Do we? News to me...
@Shokz - smae here...im pretty sure we dont :P
@Shokz OK then, every middle-class teen who buys from topshop/man and isn't a chav. And we also have to watch T4 as well, its the rule.
Hopefully it works better than the PSP connect stuff, I've never gotten that to work for more than five minutes.
Vaio only?? There is no way I would choose any Win PC let alone a Vaio to gain this feature. Sony stop with the Proprietary com systems, your sales figures will increase.
@Nvtwist
Pretty sure PC owners are in the majority. It's your choice to be one of "those people" who refuse to use one, not Sony's.
Is it just me or does Sony update the ps3 like every two months? Which update number is this? I lost track back in 08
@misterhearn I'm sorry, would you rather have a console that never gets updates? I, for one, feel I get more of my money's worth when the console gets updated frequently. Plus, new features keep a product fresh. Go back to your PS2 or Gamecube if you hate updates that much.
@misterhearn Which update number is this? 3.30.
I mean come on.
