Keepin' it real fake: PSP-shaped Mini Game King makes classic emulation a royal decree
Flamboyantly attired in a flowing fuchsia scarf, the Mini Game King is probably guilty of countless copyright violations, but we don't care. The real question is whether this latest KIRF PSP can actually play games, and we're happy to say it does. Summoning the full might of its infringing power, the King can emulate eleven classic consoles and handhelds when it's not playing AV files from 4GB of internal memory, and its Chinese manufacturer triumphantly claims that the device "will make you happy unlimited" if you hook up an wireless six-axis controller as well. "This controller does not come with the console, you have to pay for it," reads the box, but we're dying to try "3Dthergame" and "Othergame" as soon as we can dig one up.

It is making me happy unlimited.
@HardToBelieve Call a doctor, HardToBelieve has a mental disorder.
Anyway, what about N64 emulation?
@HardToBelieve
All your base are belong to us.
Believe it!
Dingoo? :O What an awesome name. Looks like the device never even had a chance the minute it was created.
@blitzkrieg
I can't wait to get my hands on "Othergame"!
This is pretty much just the Dingoo A320 in a PSP-like shell. I can tell by the button shape and placement.
The Dingoo played NES roms fine but the SNES emulator was unplayablely slow and terrible. Genesis games also played like shite. Neo-Geo was claimed to be supported but it never loaded any ROMs.
I hope this unit is better than the original Dingoo and not just the A320's innards in a shell. Dingoo Co pretty much abandoned making new firmwares for the A320, so owners of that unit (including myself) are stuck with a device that will never play SNES games at an acceptable speed.
@Elranzer
Dude, when's the last time you updated your Dingoo? Ever since the button fix, SNES emulation has rocked. Plus, it always had an adjustable frame-rate.
P.S.: Engadget, the "3D Game" folder holds (or should hold) games created by the company which are actually pretty decent (and 3D).
@Schmerzlichtod
You nailed it. The custom firmware is pretty cool, too (POF Modified Firmware) and corrects the language problems like "Interesting Game".
It's kind of sad that a place like Engadget, who are supposed to understand and know gadgets, don't recognize the Dingoo firmware here. This is obviously one of the many units that uses the Dingoo guts, modified a bit. Reviews for it have been so-so, but it is a decent emulator and PMP all things considered.
And yeah, a few of the native games are pretty good. Impressive, in fact.

I hope Dr. Ashens gets this soon. :)
I have the dingoo before this one. So awesome. Might have to get this one.
@Slygathor
dingo? you mean dingoooooooo
@Slygathor the dingoo ate your baby!
@steakman A Dingoo did eat my baby. But that's besides the point. lawl.
Oh look a "+D" pad... nice to see the people going back to basics...
Man I would kill to have the home button on the iPhone replaced with one of those...
see kids now THAT would be a real case mod... not shoving a stupid netbook into a 12 slice toaster...
@AppleDrank
i guess the obvious troll is obvious.. Also http://www.mini-itx.com/projects/toasterpc/ if you ever manage something like that, please come here and brag about that you did something else than trolling.

@Sor1
damn this comment system.
@Sor1
Why would I want to do something that stupid?
there is nothing to brag about... its not like those tuner losers that take a honda CRX then stuff 4 turbos in it, at least they did something to say it can be done for a reason even though I could spend $6K and buy a Buick Grand National and wipe the floor with them...
that is just stupidity.
@AppleDrank
So imagination, work, creativity, dedication and fun to you is stupidity.. You must be really dull person!!! Every single person that mod anything he/she knows that the money can be spend to get something better but they still do it, why ?? Check the first sentence again. And your opinion isn't necessary the opinion everybody should have.
@AppleDrank
I wonder for years, why nobody released a phone with PROPER gaming controls. It´d sell itself on it´s own!
Me too
Seems Like your average Dingoo wrapped up in a PSP-shaped case to me.
2.4Ghz Wireless controller? What the hell? LOL
Nice! I owned the A320, it was great for car rides. You never get bored when you have every snes and gba Rom ever made on the palm of your hand. It made me happy unlimited.
What you really want is "Othergame 2: The Search for Another Game"
this looks pretty cool
Oh darn, there was me thinking that id get the extra controller for free!
It looks like a PSP knock off, I will still prefer my Dingo A320 that I bought a week a go, is a nice and cheap piece of hardware.
We need price of this thing but the wireless controller idea is friggin cool!!
How do you "hook up" a wireless controller?
@A25i
Wirelessly, duh.
;)
The Dingoo is a pice of crap. I'm waiting for the Pandora (very close to being completed and shipped, they just need to get the cases and boards put together).
@cptaszek Will it ship with Duke Nukem Forever?
@cptaszek No, but you will be able download it. I can play almost any game up to Quake 3, maybe more

@cptaszek Sorry about the double post.
Hah nice.. I have the previous Dingoo as well. Got the A-320 from Thinkgeek:

Awesome little pocket emulator.
For anyone curious, the "3D Game" menu is for native Dingoo/GameKing games. The emulator support is pretty good, but the developer community seems pretty slim these days. Too many other shiny toys came out to pull devs away from the Dingoo.
And yeah, the Pandora, if/when it comes out, will probably be the preferred "open gaming portable" out there. But if you got a couple bucks, the Dingoo is great. The A-320 plays Divx movies ( see my Dell Mini 9 and Dingoo playing the same movie at the same time here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gryffyn/3639356439/ ), has an FM radio (never really used it so don't know how well it works), plays Flash FLV animations, MP3s, will do text-to-speech on text files (in english) and has a rechargable battery and expandable memory (seems to work fine with an 8GB SDHC from A-Open).
i have no idea why but that headline made me laugh so hard.
It STILL doesn't have dual analog sticks.
Why not buy the awsome Gp2x Wiz ? If only such handhelds had a 4.1" Or 5" screens !!!
@aelaos
I had a Wiz before my Dingoo. It was very cool, and was much better at emulating certain consoles, but the buttons never pleased me. It's also a bit more expensive than a Dingoo.
If they put the Wiz guts into a Dingoo case with the Dingoo buttons, I'd be thrilled.
I had expected a bit more digging, engadget. Considering you even covered the A320, it´s sad you don´t say it´s the successor, nor say something about linux on the Dingoo (not yet on the A330, but we´ll see).
IPhone fanbois :P
