World's largest curved plasma display flows into Japan's Kansai airport
Sure, we've seen 125-inch and a 145-inch curved plasma displays, but there's a new size champ in town: the international departure area at Japan's Kansai Airport was just graced with this 200-inch waterfall of a curved plasma. That's right around 13 feet by 10 feet, which is relatively insane -- no word on whether Jerry Jones is going to show up and play Gears of War on it anytime soon.

@alibabavsobama
gfhjrwrq is right, my friend! Feel the guilt of trolling! FEEL!
Oh, right. They're still working on having 'bots feel emotions, correct?
But can it run Spyro the Dragon?
@MattsZ I hope so hahaha if it. Can't I'm not payin a million dollars for it
@MattsZ Fail.
@MattsZ
Um, its nine displays stuck together... Zzzz...
I'm just so happy knowing the money spent on this seemingly worthless display could've funded possibly hundreds of children's educations.
Nice.
@Bakerdk Having worked on projects that are often referred to as worthless wastes of money, has provided my kids with food and shelter and a good home. If someone wants to spend absurd amounts of money employing hundreds of people from designers, engineers, the poverty stricken 3rd world labor that manufacture it, to the more respectably paid installer that puts it all together, well i am OK with that. It is better to employ people than just horde the money in some bank or offshore account.
@RandomGuy
Don't put words in my mouth. I never said anything about "hording" money. This project may have employed lots of people, but most-likely it didn't, employ more than a few geeks who took already existing way-too-pricey technology and decided to spend more money making it bigger.
There's a difference between "worthwhile" research and a waste of time. Doing something anyone can do given enough time and money isn't "innovation".
If there can't be a scale on which we determine valuable projects from wastes of time then what's the point? eh?
Of all the projects you could justify, this shouldn't be the one, and you wouldn't need to justify the ones that are worthwhile, anyway, because I don't have a problem with those. But this is not a "worthwhile" use of money when there are more humanitarian ways to spend it.
To sum up:
Investment in Polio Vaccine Research - Good.
Giant-ass, Expensive, Curved Plasma Screen - Bad.
@RandomGuy
Besides, read half of the other posts, I'm not the only one who thinks this is overkill, and we're a bunch of geeks!
When a geek says maybe something is overkill...that's a sign.
@Bakerdk
The only way to waste money is to not use it.
not big enough for Jerry.
I love plasma and I love big TV's but I just have to ask, why?
Not to mention I can see giant seams in it.
@reallynotnick
I love my plasma too. In fact, I couldn't live without it. /horrible joke
DAANNGG. She got Curves! (The television)
Overkill much?
If any younglings attempt to use mine as a slide. I will do what i did to them Jedi temple. It won't be pretty
Will it blend???
Hmm.. I see 9 plasma screens.
@frozo
Me too, why is this counted as "one" display?
Tony Hawk approves.
That thing must give off some heat!
I so want one -_-;.
(p.s it's "KANSAI" airport, SI would be pronounced like "see" not like "sigh")
Give me two of those so I can make one awesome half-pipe.
Why?
Yep, who needs a heatkng system for the home, just keep that sucker on.
How much you wanna bet they tested it with anime porn?
JK, I love the Japanese
@Agent007 LOL I wouldn't be surprised if that was true at all to be honest. But Japanese porn is censored by law -_-; booo
It looks like a slide ffs
For whatever reason I am picturing a giant ipad...
I can't wait to see the largest curved BSOD!
@futurepaul How's the pixel density?
I wanna know if text is readable. This could become my new monitor for bedtime reading.
It'll need re-gassing soon
But who flies into Kansai? I wish this was in Narita....
Is the screen protected by condom? Otherwise people's hand will be all over it until it break down and burst.
WTF? The title was misspelled, I commented on it, then the title was silently fixed and my comment was deleted? But yeah, comments like "will it blend" is okay.
How does this help me play Crysis?
