Das nice
$100 bucks at Amazon...
http://dealnews.com/HTC-DROID-Incredible-Android-Smartphone-for-Verizon-for-100-free-shipping/361940.html
@Certifiedfryguy : I wish my company had the option of having the Incredible as a phone...can't tell you how much I loathe the blackberries. Then again, is the Incredible "business" ready?
@Spongecake No, it's not business ready. It can technically work with Exchange, but doesn't offer any enterprise security protections managed by ActiveSync (no remote wipe, no encryption, no password required, etc.). And, there's no BBConnect for integration with a BES. Until Google or HTC gets their act together, there's no way Android will pick up any enterprise clients. Maybe the recent HTC/Microsoft patent agreement will include full Activesync integration....
@toddb We use it with EAS and security policies on Exchange 2010. HTC extended the EAS capabilities to include 19 policies.
http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/68715-full-exchange-active-sync.html#post634251
@toddb Your lack of knowledge saddens me. There are plenty of well qualified apps to handle all of what you just mentioned. Especially remote wipe and tracking.
@ddicted
Thank you sir. When I get home and find the account bill, I'll put in an order.
@Certifiedfryguy
$99 at Amazon for a new line
$149 at Wirefly.com for an existing line
@Certifiedfryguy This only refers to deliveries not to in-store purchases. This is also available in store today and I can't imagine that they's all be sold out, especially with all the Verizon stores in any given area.
@joegstl Direct from Verizon Wireless support: The HTC Incredible is supported with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) or later, however, full Exchange ActiveSync support, including security requirements, like remote wipe and passwords are not supported. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
@InKahootz What are these "well qualified apps" that are enterprise-ready... and the "19 EAS policies" that are referred to - what policies are those? Verizon themselves, as well as countless other sources on the web, all complain about the lack of enterprise-level management in Android. And, more importantly, this is a known issue: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=4475.
@toddb I dunno who you talked to - they were wrong about the PIN lock thing at least, and other blog reviews definitely state that the incredible supports remote wipe with the shipping version of the firmware (though that an early preview version given to some "first look" reviewers did not). I can confirm that PIN-lock does work. My company requires it. My Incredible (arrived yesterday) prompted me as required and made me set up an unlock password.
@ddicted Throw in an Eris for $0.01 w/ a family plan - 2 Droids for $100...
@CantankerousInHD I hope I am wrong about that... I'm going to give it a few days and see if the battery issues are real or just subjective, but otherwise I'm onboard. Not being a hater - I'd jump on this in a second if I had some solid confirmation that my enterprise would allow it.
@toddb I find this hard to believe considering my Incredible just told me my Exchange server requires a password for screen unlock and I had to make one.
@ddicted
also available today at Best Buy. Walk in, buy one. No shipping rules.
@ddicted Great phone, the sense makes it even more incredible -- I just hope they release it sooner, before EVO. http://j.mp/htc-incredible-impressions
@CantankerousInHD I stand corrected. Verizon just sent me a follow up to my initial request for info on EAS support with the Incredible. Apparently it supports much more than they told me.
1. Encryption of Data in Transit (SSL)
2. EAS Policy Enforcement
3. Device Password Enforcement
4. Failed Attempts Local Wipe
5. Password Complexity
6. Device Inactivity Tmeout
7. Remote Wipe
Giggity.
I think if any phone will be claimed as an iPhone killer, it will be this one. Maybe not sheer numbers sold, but in terms of performance and appeal.. easily.
@Madcat Until the HTC Evo comes out.....just sayin'
@Madcat
Or the MeeGo based N9. For which we will have to wait, unfortunately. :)
@Madcat Thats until the iPhone 4G comes out!
@Madcat thats until the startac motorola makes a come back
@Madcat Nope. That'll be the HTC Evo on Sprint. Or possibly something new from Palm. This phone is already old news. Sorry.
@Techeternity
I agree....can't wait till June for the new iPhone
@Madcat It's going to beat the new iphone? Where is the front facing camera?
@element4life3
I would agree with that. The EVO will actually be a lot like the iPhone, a great phone on a terrible network. As a consumer, you just can't have it all, can you?
@Madcat
Picked one up this morning. If anything, this is Verizon's iPhone. We need to stop the "iPhone killer" references. Apples != Oranges. A couple quick notes:
* Snapdragon + Sense = Win :)
* Phone build quality, although solid, does feel a bit cheap.
* The screen is awesome, and feels more responsive than the Nexus.
* On-screen keyboard is great. After owning an iPhone, I thought I would never be able to use another on-screen keyboard. No more.
* Battery life, not so great.
@Mr Blue
Serious question here, not intended as flaming...
How do you know how well the battery life is after just getting it this morning?
1. they come with under half a battery from the box
2. With any new smart phone purchase you spend hours playing with it to check everything out... obviously going to drain the battery fast.
So are you judging battery life off of less than 25-50% battery life and 3 hours of doing nothing but playing on it? Or did you charge it fully and already find its dropping fast?
@Madcat
I think you guys are all wrong... stop the iphone killer paradigm.
@schultz
While the tendency is to play with it immediately after purchase, I had a busy morning.. so I just left it charging.
However after switching from a Droid, it's obvious this amoled screen can really suck down some juice. To combat this, the screen is crisp enough you can set it to 50% indoors and it's still plenty readable. Mind you I have sync on, but bluetooth, gps, and wifi off. Just some browsing, a couple YouTube videos.
@jamo, Terrible network?? What the heck are you talking about? The EVO is going to Sprint, not At&t or Tmo!
@jamo I'm on Sprint and would recommend them to anyone. Why is it that people that know nothing about how Sprint has progressed, or never used them, talk them down? Just the fanboy mentality, I guess.
Sprint's pricing is so much better than Verizon's, I imagine the plans for the Evo will beat Verizon's 3G plans. But that's just me thinking. (I'm usually correct, however)
@beckhams777 people really need to stop saying iPhone killer, it implies that the phone is somehow either on the level or as bad as the iPhone. yes the iphone used to be the best phone on the market but then other things came out and everyone kept saying iClone or iPhone killer without realizing how much better these phones are... Stop comparing things to the iPhone, its no longer the industry leader in innovation and hardware, Just leads in Fanboyism
@Madcat
There are already a few iPhone killers. Doing so is not such a hard feat anymore for a decent phone based on Android.
This is just the latest of many. Android marketplace is now at 50,000 apps and this past month there was a report by an analytics firm that there was more web traffic from Android based phones than iPhones.
@jamo Terrible network? AT&T? No sir NO. I am using the Nexus One on AT&T and may I say that after owning an iPhone, there are almost NO dropped calls and excellent 3G reception and speeds. So....its the iPhone which has problems and not AT&T.
@Madcat
You are delusional if you think that the Incredible is going to be considered an "iPhone Killer".
You clearly don't understand that what makes the iPhone so ridiculously popular isn't so much the hardware. It's the whole ecosystem that makes the iPhone what it is...the phone itself, the OS, the apps, the integration with one's music/video library.
The Incredible looks to be a GREAT phone - and it will probably be my next phone (it's one of my top 2), but it's no "iPhone Killer", that's for damn sure.
@jamo
Terrible network? might be true if you live in Montana or something.
To us that live in the city, Sprint is on par with verizon's network.
@jsbaugh
Point me to where I can buy an iPhone with a front facing camera?
@Hazdaz
The funny thing is, I have an iPod Touch 3G, so I understand the whole "experience". What I mean by "iPhone killer", is something as powerful as the iPhone, but with an openess seen only on other systems. Android is rapidly gaining all the "apps", and is far more customizable than anything Apple. And now this is a phone that looks as great as it performs, which is Apple's other claim to fame..
@Madcat It will be for a couple months just like the Nexus One was, but the EVO 4G will be the head Android device against Apple's iPhone.
@scorpeo Yeah and Sprint = Horrible service
@scorpeo Add Sprint to the "terrible network" list.
@Mr Blue
I agree with Mr Blue... battery's not very good...
I preordered my Incredible on 04/19, I received it on Tues 04/27, charged it up, set everything up, used it, charged again Tues night, used it all day Wed, but the battery was dead by 5pm. Tried charging from 5pm yesterday all the way till 7am this morning. The phone wouldn't charge, wouldn't even power up while plugged in now. I've called Verizon CSR, & they're overnighting me a new one for tomorrow. I don't have time to goto the Verizon store & wait & fight the lines with people getting their Incredibles today.
@Hazdaz What makes the iPhone good is the great, pervasive marketing, the brand recognition, the media coverage, and the Apple logo. Not the software, the hardware, or even the ecosystem.
Sent from my iPhone by a Mac fanboy.
@andyg8180
Motorola Star-Tac was $1,500 when it was launched. Lots of memories!
@vailmcc
Stop using that crack
Getting mine in a few hours, can't wait!
@one are they in the stores?? I was going to go today or tomorrow
@SteveBIRK
pre-ordered 5 days ago. In my hands now and it's... Incredible! :)
