Mine is out for delivery!
I really like what I've seen of this phone so far in reviews/videos/etc, but the battery life is a concern.
Is there an app on Android to under-clock the CPU when you want better battery life??
Also, can anyone tell me if this is a glass screen or acrylic?
... both have their advantages and their disadvantages, but it would be nice to know.
@Hazdaz Yes. You can use Set-CPU if the phone is rooted.
I'm definitely going to need an extended battery. I've had the phone 24 hours and I've had to charge it twice. I know the first few charges are different but I am going to use it how I normally would for the next few days and see if I need it. Other than that I love it!
@hated one
It's $200
unemployment is not at an all time high
the vowel phone doesn't have the same feature set
reality is that you're an uneducated apple fanboy
Finish college then come back and talk to me. I think you should take a history class first.
I got mine yesterday.
Sold out on line in 6 hours! I wish Sprint would light a fire under it and provide their customers with some new phones. No wonder they keep losing customers. Everything is always months away with them.
@teky ditto all of that but insert AT&T for Sprint. I'm on AT&T and I don't want an iPhone or BBerry. Too bad for me since every other phone they have is crap! Including my Fuze/TPro
With unemployment at an all time high and the total cost of ownership over $2900, who is going to bother buying the iPhone 4G??
When does reality set it?!
I'm not too convinced about the EVO since it does not have an optical trackpad. IMO, the capacitive touchscreen experience is improved by an external navigation device because it provides more granularity than mere touch (and in the case of not having a sausage handy). And it's one thing that no iPhone or even the next one has.
As for iPhone killer... let's face reality. There will be no such thing. What other phone has been able to do what it has in the last 3 years? You may hate on Apple all you want but there is a reason why everyone tries to compare to their phone... because it set the benchmark and while others may work better or have superior features, none will have the widespread saturation it has had and will continue to (lost prototype leaks or not).
Before I get downranked, I'm not a shapple... I want to get an Incredible too. But with the iPhone 4G (or should it be called $5G heh) on the horizon, it's going to be tough call. Go with the proven phone with a wider audience or with the up and comer on the best (although restricted) network? At least you can tether on the Incredible (for a price).
@BigNerd, I'm not "too convinced" about the Incredible, no HD 720p, no HDMI, no 4G, smaller battery, smaller screen, etc. See how that works. By the way, HTC explained why they did not add a trackball, the screen is large enough to navigate with your fingers.
@scorpeo
That's fair, if you want that much in a phone. And it should still be cheaper monthly than VZW (even if they upcharge for 4G).
I think the omission of the trackpad is more of trying to fit the bigger screen into the design than explaining that a bigger screen obsolesces the need for one. The other use for a nav device external from the screen is one handed operation... and if you really want to pull in those RIM users, it's something you would keep rather than throw away.
I'll probably end up with a Legend/Hero2 on Sprint... but after playing with the Incredible at the local VZW store... I have to say it is... uh... incredible (it's amazingly thin in person... thinner than the Eris/Hero).
@BigNerd, you do not have to worry about an "upcharge for 4G", Sprint's Hesse already said there will not be any additional charge for 4G. It's cheaper to operate 4G as opposed to 3G. In my previous post, I forgot to mention that the EVO will have Froyo, 2.1 is not compatible with Wimax. Similarly to how 1.5 was not compatible with CDMA, they had to create 1.6.
@scorpeo
That's not true at all. Almost all the older CDMA devices are running 1.5 (Droid Eris, Hero, Moment).
Also Dan Hesse never said 4G wouldn't cost extra. They said there wouldn't be a 5GB limit like 3G. You can use and share data as much as you want, but there will probably be a charge for 4G on the device.
Sounds like you're just an EVO/Sprint fanboy spewing crap about an Incredible phone. The EVO will be awesome, no one doubts that, but you need to turn off your fanboy fact filter.
@ramifications, first off, I miss commented with respect to 1.6. Elements from 1.6 had to be added to CDMA 1.5 in order to get it to work with CDMA. Lastly, Engadget held a live keynote with Hesse: 9:35AM "It's like standard def versus high def, but with that analogy, you paid more for the better service. With 4G, we're giving you more for free." 9:34AM "With 4G, "because we can produce a gigabyte cheaper, we can offer more to the customer."

Is there anyone who bought this today and previously owned an iPhone?
I currently own a 2G model, and any kind of contract I might have had with AT&T is simply month-to-month now (bought back in February 2008).
Basically, I'm looking for anyone who previously had an iPhone before getting this phone to weigh in on what they think.
WHEN USING aol EMAIL IT SEEMS SLOW TO SYNC AND UPDATE MAIL.....ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS?

@mmm208 This issue is easily fixed by not using a terrible email service.
I just bought mine! :DDDDD
I actually got my Droid Incredible on Tuesday *shrugs* they shipped it on monday morning 2 day fedex. It got here early.
@KainAzeroth
My FedEx tracking number always indicated that it'd arrive today, but I also got mine Tuesday. It was nice to get it way earlier than expected.
@hated one Actually, it's $199.99 from Verizon themselves, $99.99 from Amazon, and $149.99 from Wirefly. Cheaper or on-par with iPhone 3GS (and probably 4G when it comes out, since Apple always prices the new phones at $199.99 and reduces the others by $100)
You can't add the ETF into your equation either, because you're automatically assuming people will terminate after the 30 day buyer's remorse window.
Month to month cost of ownership is the same as iPhone being that Verizon and AT&T have identical pricing structures for their voice and data plans. $39.99 for the cheapest voice and $29.99 for data.
When you throw out the ETF, the pricing for the Incredible beats iPhone 3GS and most likely 4G full stop. (Plus, as said, the current feature set is miles ahead of 3GS... can't blame 3GS being almost a year old now, though.)
I got mine this morning--preordered over the net. It looks like it should be amazing but the 3G keeps dropping out! Exchange setup was a breeze--get my emails without a hitch. Screen is gorgeous. Feels great in the hand. I had the Droid but returned it when I heard this was coming out. My Droid worked PERFECTLY and I am starting to wonder if I made a mistake. Am curious to see if anyone else is having the same issue. I am a NYC resident and Verizon signal is very strong here--actually the signal is not the issue cuz its reading -85dBm. Never had an issue with the Droid. Internet still works pretty fast but when in 3G, showing only 1 bar in an area where I normally show all four bars! I will wait a while and see if Verizon addresses this. HTC sense is beautiful but will take time to learn.
I can completely agree. I'm typing from my Incredible right now and it IS incredible.
@j2daake
Well that's odd. I posted this as a reply to the first one. Meh, it makes no difference.
We actually got ours yesterday, and it shipped with the 2GB card included. We had pre-ordered on the 17th.
Got mine today :) my 30 day was up today cant beat that
HTC RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got mine from Best Buy this morning, no SD card, but I really dont care. I had a 8GB card in my Blackberry that I swapped out. So far I love the phone. What annoys me All my old chargers are Mini USB and this phone is Micro USB... Oh well, I guess I'll spend $5 on Ebay buying new chargers, LOL/.
Wait what? I was unaware how recently it was released as someone I know just got one, it's a pretty nice looking phone. Haven't gotten to play around with it yet though.
I preordered mine on the 19th and it came yesterday (28th) ... I'm not sure if that was supposed to happen since it technically wasn't released yet. But it does indeed live up to it's name.
@LowSky
Hey I had the same situation, I had like 3 mini usb chargers. You can go into Radio Shack and but mini to micro converter works great!
I want this phone, bt I'm currently with Sprint! I'll justwait for the EVO! Verizon is raping it's consumers with those prices! WOW! $39.99 for 450 mins, $20 for 5000 messages (no umlimited), and then $29.99 for unlimited email &web. $89.99 total and no unlimited mobile to mobile! No thank you verizon! I'll wait for the EVO and keep my $69.99 plan with 450 min, unlimited text, unlimited email, unlimited web, and any carrier mobile to mobile!
@Gmoney3000
if any of that is verizon it is unlimited
If most of the people you know use verizon you can just get the $10 texting plane and any voice plan will be unlimited. Sprint is less expensive for sure, but they don't quite have the coverage that verizon does.
Will this ever be available in the UK??
How can a phone that you literally can't see at all in daylight be "incredible." I've personally experienced this incredible oversight with the Nexus One as well. Let's just hope Apple doesn't go with this screen technology with the next gen iPhone! One thing that sold me on the iPhone 3G was how viewable it was, even in bright sunlight. It is amazing to me that people are willing to overlook such a major flaw... I guess there are many vampires roaming around with these things :-)
