Fusion Garage pledges 3G JooJoo by July, memory stick support coming soon
Yeah, okay, so the JooJoo didn't exactly rock our world and we're guessing it's had a similar effect on you, but CEO Chandra Rathakrishnan is saying that things are going to get better -- honest. First are plans to unlock that USB port, enabling the tablet to recognize USB storage and revolutionize the world. Next up will be a 3G version, which will release in roughly three months and enable users to revolutionize the world while traveling through it. However, Chandra has indicated he's not opposed to people tweaking the underlying Linux OS to enable external 3G adapters themselves; certainly a refreshing position compared to those who control the destiny of a certain other tablet. So, which of you hackers wants to get started? Anyone...?

@superonyx Other than the complete idiocy you demonstrate everywhere else. This argument that flash is about the app store is ridiculous. What is worse, is people like you who just want to play free flash games and never make the dev's more than 3 dollars in a 5 year period, purport to love these games and their developers but wouldnt spend a dim on the app store supporting them.
In short, your a self serving asshole who doesnt know jack about computers past running your WOW patcher. So you should probably just shut up like 90% of the completely inane and stupid people on these boards. Or go back to championing some other product already on a downward slide.

Here is what I did in 10 minutes with my "consumption" device. In short, you are an idiot.
@Tsing Tao
Such passion. I guess i hit a nerve with you. The truth is apple doesnt like flash for this reason alone. They dont make money from users getting free content on the internet. But i guess you choose to show what a sheep you are by believing what Jobs says. I guess when he said the 2g iphone isnt capable of video capture you believed that crap also. Even though my 2g jailbroken iphone was capturing video way before your idol jobs allowed you to do it. It has to be tough to have such a narrow way of thinking. Your lack of intellect blinds you from the truth behind apple. Its a business. Their purpose is to make as much money as possible. The app store a huge part of their business model and they will never support a format like flash because it potentially takes away from this..... But you know it all....so carry on..
@superonyx I don't understand why people constantly say "Apple doesn't allow flash because they want you to pay for games in iTunes instead of playing free Flash games"
There are a ton of free games and apps in the app store too, but they're native games/apps written for the iPhone, which work much better than any game written for a mouse/keyboard within a browser window. I concede that it's about control, but maybe that's good for the end user...
I'm a Droid user, and there are some buggy apps in the Market, because they don't have any quality control... There is no perfect solution to this problem
back on subject... the iPad is pretty nice from what time I've spent on one... I am waiting for the Adam (and was waiting to see what came of the Courier) but if that doesn't turn out well, we'll probably have an iPad sitting in our living room this fall to (hopefully) replace all of the magazines my wife likes to read...
@Tsing Tao
I'm the idiot yet you wasted 10 minutes posting a picture on a message board to prove its not a consumption devise.....
Wow.
And its still just a consumption device.
@superonyx Hey superonyx, don't let logic, reason or facts get in the way of your one-man campaign to bring down apple and the ipad.
You go girl!
@vqro You're an idiot.
@ general public Do you really think that all of the web developers will rewrite their site menus just because apple says so? And yes, the itampon is a resticted device. I can do 3x as many things as the ipad can do on my iPod touch.
@Tsing Tao
+10
Finally some reality among the chatter.
on a more sad note: HP Slate just got canned. Seriously.
@Mekkakat Why is this sad? It would have been an epic failure for HP if they had decided to release it. Don't worry there will be an iPad-killing WebOS Slate eventually that you can buy. Just wait a couple of years.
@ninja98 I'm sad because HP yes, did make a good choice in pulling something that would have bloated the webOS tablet space, but think in a "couple years" how impossible it will be to penetrate the (what will then be) 3rd gen iPads and iPad apps...
it's only going to be a harder race for webOS as time goes on...
Android is seriously my last hope in creating an amazing tablet for the true consumerism that a lot of us want.
Go open source JooJoo it's your only hope.
@az1324 The basis of your argument is?
@marsmissions Let me try...HTML5? :)
I am the last person you would call an Apple fanboy, but you gotta give it to Apple for setting the standards so high that everyone else either follows or fails. Sadly, a closed system is the price you pay though.
@spielnicht "Closed system" is such a buzzword these days. All I'm saying is that on this "closed" system, 90% of people can do 75% of what they want to do. That's not too bad at all.
@vqro Yes, I pulled those numbers out of my ass but you get the picture.
@vqro Good gravy, why did you tell us to get the picture of you pulling things out of your arse?
The standards aren't that high. Part of the problem is media and people repeating this over and over until people believe it. Kind of like the "elegance" myth that shrouds Apple's poor UIs and bad design decisions.
Here's one you don't hear enough about: the blunder of putting that curved back on the iPad. The tablet tapers away to nothing exactly where you need to hold it: at the edge. All to "trick" people into thinking the device is thinner than it is. Stupid. You have to hold the thing with one hand to use it, because it's a touch-screen device. And yet you can hold it from the edge, because the tapering edge squeezes out of your fingers. So you get to hold this thing from one place: the bottom.
And it doesn't lie flat. And desiging any kind of mobile dock is a pain because of the stupid bulging back.
When you combine the physical ineptitude of the product with its inexcusably crippled connectivity and software capabilities, you get a sham.
CAN'T hold it from the edge. CAN'T.
Gotta love that there's no way to edit comments.
CAN'T hold it from the edge.
Why is this dinky little company getting so much press from the tech world?
@Mullrat
That's because engadget has invested money in this company
@Mullrat
Because currently they're the only other option to the iPad, as small as they are. They were technically first to market. And, they were a company that everyone claimed as vapor that actually came through, granted in low quantity and not quite hitting the mark, but that can be changed if they pull through and support their product. Hell if you've ever been involved in product development you can appreciate what's been done here. Starting up a company is not easy, its exponentially more difficult in consumer electronics, and you can multiply that when you're the only guy in the ring against a company like Apple.
Give them some f*king credit you whiny bitches
I really hope this company does well, I hate to see anyone fell, but I really think that if they would have put another OS, lets say Android on it, that it would have done a ton better.
I think it's pretty cool that they are welcoming a user community, regardless of how good or not good their products are. You don't see that very often these days...all these other companies are so paranoid about their intellectual property and locking their devices down, and if someone does even the smallest hack they freak out and try to make it ILLEGAL to modify the device...Thankfully we have the EFF to protect us from companies like Apple.
July? So, that's what, like 2012 on Fusion Garage time?
JooJoo is just a sample of what is to come with Chromium OS. With Chromium OS there will be double the users up to almost 128. Just goes to show that a web only tablet is HOT and finds it's own niche market even in the shadow of the iPad. I think we can thank the success of the JooJoo to its wonderful implementation of Flash 10.1 beta. Chromium OS promises to also include Flash and hopes to double the number of users that the JooJoo has achieved. Go web only Tablets you're giving Apple a run for the money.
Of course I have used them. I have bought 25ipads so far under my business account. I then have sold them for a 100 profit each to my Chinese connection.
The 3gs iPhone made me tons. Do the math. I'm glad there are people like you. Your demand drives up prices.
Thanks
Lame troll is lame.
"Hankl! Load up the sawn-off. We gots a troll needin' to be taken out back and shot."
"Sure thing, Billy-Bob!"
Despite the software and battery challenges, what I had really wanted in an updated JooJoo is actually some weight reduction. This thing weighs more than most netbooks! This doesn't make sense when all other tablets (vaporware or not) can weight around 1.5 lbs, which people already complain as heavy. I can't imagine using a JooJoo to read when it weighs more than 3 textbooks combined.
@Narutogrey
The Joojoo's 2.4lbs, which is in-line with the typical netbook actually. And it makes perfect sense why it doesn't weigh the same as other tablets like the iPad: it's a netbook. The internals are the same as a netbook whereas an iPad even has lots of extra room because it uses smartphone internals. The main difference from a netbook is no keyboard except it now has a touchscreen which weighs more than a regular screen. And you can not expect Fusion Garage to have the same design prowess or manufacturing capability that Apple would have.
I still can't get over the name... JooJoo. Are they for real?? Actually, the name is much better than the weePad
One final effort is all that remains.
Yo JooJoo, I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish..but Apple has one of the best tablets of all time!!
