Motorola MB810 gets a Wi-Fi certification, might just be the Shadow
There's precisely no way to know for sure, but it looks as if the perpetual mystery surrounding the Motorola Shadow may be nearing its end. Just as the weekend was getting kicked off in earnest, a new Moto handset managed to get its own stamp of approval from the fine folks at the Wi-Fi Alliance, and pictures of something that might be the Shadow appeared on laptopmemo. The MB810 is said to be equipped with both 802.11b/g/n as well as a cellular data connection, though it's impossible to tell from the paperwork whether it'll be outed in GSM or CDMA form. The leaked handset at laptopmemo is said to have a 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen, an eight megapixel camera with HD video capability, and a slider QWERTY keyboard. Are they the same handset, and is any of this real? We should know whether or not this guy has slipped through the cracks under another moniker in due time, but if you're anything like us, "due time" won't ever come soon enough.

Hooray?
@thejdude it's Engadget on a weekend, don't get too excited.
there are two motorola phones on the way.
there is a 4.1" and a 4.3" screen, one of them will probably be the nexus two or Droid 2, or whatever.
lets see whats next from MOTO
Come on CDMA...come on CDMA.
If the previous rumors surrounding this phone are true, I'd love for it to be on the Verizon network.
@Prevacator Verizon already had a crap ton of legit smartphones. It's T-Mobiles turn to carry a high end Android handset. So I'm going we get Le Shadow.
@Gold Mamba high end, like, the Nexus One? Oh wait that's already on T-Mobile..
@tracdoor yeah except half of T-Mobile's current customers can't upgrade to it if they're on a family or another similar plan. we want a phone sold by t-mobile so there are no restrictions
@tracdoor
Unfortunately, the N1 isn't sold in T-Mobile stores
@Prevacator
It is on Verizon
Its 4.1" SLATE! (No keyboard)
HMDI out
720MHz proc
8 MP cam
Release window around fathers day, maybe into July.

WOW!
PLEASE come to AT&T! (Or at least have a NAM 3G version) This thing sounds amazing!
@Peter F
No its going to Verizon this summer June/July
and engadgets wrong its not a slider.
4.1" Slate
Looks like Motorola is feeling the jealousy from HTC
@Stevenk I was thinking the exact same thing
Hopefully the keyboard is alot better than the Droid's!
@Frawley I wish!!
@Frawley
No keyboard!
4.1" slate!
Have to wait for the Droid 2 (July/Aug) for a moto with a keyboard.
PLEASE for the love of god, let it not have Motoblur!
@Johnny Rockets The MB in the model number seems to indicate that this device is, in fact, running Motoblur.
@paintpanic

@Johnny Rockets
You can completely turn it off with a short keypress.
Droid 2?
@Spaceshipped
YEA! Droid is more of an Android Flagship than any other phone...I hope this is the hatchet. Dual 1Ghz processors. ...Snap(s)dragon...then Moto can then capitalize on (s) as a retort to the i prefix marketing campagin. (s)Old.
@Spaceshipped Dual core Snapdragon processors don't exist. What you're wanting is Tegra 2.
@Eggo
http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/13/qualcomm-begs-for-snapdragon-attention-doubles-processor-power/
And that was at the end of 2008, so they might start uncluding it in smartphones soon.
@masta vaan
*including
Damn, engadget, please, please, please get an edit button...
PLEASE
@Spaceshipped
Droid 2 is a seperate phone than this and will hopefully be out July/Aug time.
This is the Shadow, it has no keyboard!!!!
Its 4.1" SLATE! (No keyboard)
HMDI out
720MHz proc
8 MP cam
Probably a June/July release
Sweet so it's everything I thought the nexus one should have had -- larger screen, wifi N, 720p video, and digital video out.
@DoctarPeppar what you just described to me sounds like a netbook.
@tracdoor
Uhm, ok? So this phone and the EVO4g \ Nokia N8 are considered netbooks now? Fail.
How do I know when the best time to get a phone without regretting it 2 months later because a phone with two times better specs comes out???
@Kamil R
Easy...
Buy a top of the line phone the day it comes out.
The problem is when you buy a phone that is old, both in terms of release date or you buy a phone that already has sub-par specs.
@Kamil R Wait for WWDC..you never know what could happen!
@Stevenk
I think it would be pretty god damned funny if they got Gray Powell to unveil the new iphone at WWDC.
@DoctarPeppar hahahahahahaha!
Android is just getting all the hoss phones these days.
@AppleDrank
I want HD camera, but I also want front facing cam for vid conferencing.
Blame the USA carriers -- even dumbphones in europe have had front facing cams for years, and every HTC \ etc smartphone that gets picked up over here gets the camera removed by the carriers request.
@DoctarPeppar
It's extremely doubtful you'll ever use it, if you're videoconferencing you should be at a PC or have a laptop with you and video calls just aren't useful - holding your phone out infront of you and talking at it just isn't practical.
Most featurephones here (australia) have frontfacing cameras noone EVER uses them (Well OK I used mine once to try it out ~4 years ago!)
@Bratyr
K...no
I had an i8910 with a front facing cam and ever since Fring made their software work with Skype, I used it all the time. It's great, especially on the go if you want to talk to customers or friends. The quality was superb, even over 3g.
please be android and please go to verizon or sprint!
4.1" Screen and no keyboard and CDMA based off the insiders at howard forums. The droid 2 will have the keyboard of course.
@Zachary
Thank you!
No tech site seems to understand this at all!
They all seem to have very incorrect info on the Shadow and that needs to change!

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?
..
The Shadow knooooows!
I'd be happy mother fucker if this is the Droid 2.
8mp, HD Video, 4.3in (may be good), and QWERTY keyboard.
Hopefully it also is at least a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor..
This is why I didn't get the Incredible..
@EggoEspada This isn't the Droid 2, the specs from LaptopMemo are mostly wrong. For a more complete story including the last leaked photo head here.
http://androidandme.com/2010/04/phones/the-motorola-shadow-re-emerges/
I'd be more excited if it didn't sound like Motorola was stripping all the google from their google phones.
@chaunceyd They aren't stripping their version of the OS of Google. (And I hope they don't.) They're simply not using Google's Map Navigation is all...
So, does anyone else notice that the form factor looks like a portrait slider? I could be very wrong in this, but, that's just me.
It could even be a landscape slider, with that interesting little bump on the back being for the camera and cellular/WiFi antenna's both. Maybe even where some memory is. It's an interesting prospect for the form factor, which could give you the possible notion of at least three separate form factors.
A slate with a backwards HTC chin.
A portrait slider.
A landscape slider with a weird edge.
All seem kind of puzzling for a possible Android flagship... 'Specially the portrait slider idea.
@RickStar
More I look at that top picture, the more I think "SLATE!"
@RickStar
Most of the info is wrong!
Its not a slider, its a 4.1" slate!
