That was quick.
@derekdevine
haha! that was actually my exact first thought too...
@derekdevine
That's not what you want her to say.
@KlassiK Well, she did ask for a quickie.
@derekdevine
Good. One more alternative to watch TV without Flash getting in the way.
@derekdevine
Steve Jobs said "Jump", so ABC got on its collective knees polished his helmet with an ever so loving squeeze at the end. Oops, I mean they created a lower bandwidth version of their site so that it would work with the iPad 3G in the past how long was it since this was reported? 24 hours?
I feel a downrank coming on. :p
@KlassiK Lol beat me to it
@derekdevine
I just gained a bit more respect for ABC. They got something done fast. Not like 2 weeks or more of BS before something gets fixed.
@Dig Deep
Whether it was someone from Apple on their ass or whatever. I don't care. Got done.
I am assuming it looks like ass. Can anyone confirm?
@bighap I'm sitting at 2 Mbps via AT&T 3G in the land of very few iPhones/iPads, and the video still looks surprisingly good. Near instant loading.
Mmyes...there seems to be a pair of buttocks obstructing my view...can anyone else confirm this? Isolated incident?
But I like lost and smoke monsters :(
Streaming over ATT?
No thanks.
@RockNStuff
I get over 2Mbps on AT&T so streaming is usually pretty good.
iPad + Spirit + MyWi + Backgrounder + SBSettings = no need for iPad 3G and get HIGHEST BIT RATE ABC VIDEOS
Thanks Apple - you are the best!
@Vanilla Sperm
OMG...think about all that stuff you just typed....it seems like at least 2 products plus 3 software things....
vs
1 simple iPad 3G...I'm not arguing that one way is the absolute best way for everyone but me personally I'd rather just carry 1 device than have to carry 2 to 4 just to get this superior quality you're talking about.
@Vanilla Sperm Alternatively, iPad + Sprint Overdrive.
@TheLondonExchange
I know I know...I have an iPhone 3GS with AT&T and I rarely use the data on that plan - so why not use it with my iPad wifi!!
I wish I can buy another iPad 3G - just for the damn GPS radio!
@Dale P
isn't the Sprint tethering $60?? I don't have 4G in my area and would be restricted to 3G data caps and slower data rates...
AT&T blows chunks. I hate them.
@Vanilla Sperm
I was driving around today with my iPad tethered to my iPhone and if you're in any kind of urban area with some WiFi networks, your iPad will locate you within 100 feet or so. Unless you want GPS navigation, I wouldn't buy the 3G iPad just because it has a GPS chip.
@Jeff Kibuule
It's gonna be the next iPhone 4G or whatever for me - if they include this new GPS radio they use in the new ipad 3G, i'm all over it like creampies.
But man, 9.7" GPS dude, that makes my jimmy salute!
@TheLondonExchange If you have an iPhone you really aren't carrying anymore devices as when are you ever going to go anywhere without your phone, and to start mywi when you want 3g isn't that big of a pain. I'm rocking the same setup and loving it. Not only should everyone be jail breaking their iphones and using mywi but jail breaking your ipad and using backgrounder to listen to pandora and browse the web is awesome.
@TheLondonExchange
you sir, are an idiot. That was one product, with a simple jailbreak and a few free software downloads.
@Alexlfm I also share this new found freedom, it's silly to be so stoked on having tethering but I'm glad it's finally available for us new 3GS owners. I'm loving being jailbroken again, the apple lockdown was getting to me.
iFad.
@psycros
Apple Hater
That's what they said about the iPhone too did they not?
Continue hating...it just makes Apple stronger...right Lord Vader?
@psycros Yawn. I am starting to think that the real fad is making stupid predictions that never come true and looking like an idiot in the process.
Please, wake me up when the competition comes up with a tablet worth a damn.
- Sent from my iPad
@psycros
dude, go try one out for a week - I can guarantee you that you'd be at least 80% sure to keep it. Now with the jailbreak, I'm sure 100% you'd keep it.
The ipad is a fantastic media device - with the apps now, man, you can do just about everything...
@psycros I typical use case for my iPad is as follows.
Alarm wakes me and I grab iPad check mail and weather. I carry iPad to kitchen and read news as I eat a bowl of oatmeal squares. Throw iPad in bag and head to class. After class I browse web(mainly engadget, and fantasy baseball), play some angry birds or other game and eat lunch. In the evening I chill reading Engadget, Facebook, news, etc and maybe watch a little abc or netflix. By 10:00 pm or so I'm in bed reading an iBook(blink! atm) or the web. As you can see everything I do is possible with a laptop or phone but the portability of the iPad bests a netbook and certainly a laptop and the screen size is a huge improvement over a phone. Not to mention I have around 60% battery at the end of the day. Call me an fanboy or what you will but I will still enjoy my iPad. It's a shame people can't give a product a try before deciding they hate it. Is it possible you might be afraid you'd like it?
@RLBurkes
That sounds pathetic. When i took classes, i hung out with people in between, went on dates. You have your ipad though. Why not use an iphone so you don't look like such a nerd?
@cardfan Clearly because girls are eewie.
that's good news... more to come plz :)
Just in time for the second episode of Happy Town.
@Dale P Don't let the name fool you, even while streaming over 3G.
There shouldn't have ever been any restrictions to begin with....
All this data use has to put a strain on the ATT network....
@shoman24v
That's AT&T's problem...they charge everyone $30 a month for unlimited 3G data (for the iPhones) but yet cap at 5G/month. Then they complain about network saturation and the other bullshxts? Come the F' on. Man up AT&T and actually provide some real value service to your customers.
Apple should just buy their own communication spectrum and do their own telecommunications network. AT&T is a huge ripoff.
@shoman24v
I'm sure it wasn't a restriction, but that they had to add in some code to let it stream over 3G, and also to add links for lower bit rate videos for the 3G connection
@Apples2Oranges That's my main reason for not going ATT. It's saturated with iPhones, and now iPads which IMO will hurt ATT more simply because of the extreme data it will process. People wanting to buy movies, larger apps because of the capability of the iPad... etc.
It will happen in due time. ATT's network will be flooded with too much data usage.
@Vanilla Sperm
If you think $30 for at&t is expensive, imagine the money you would pay with the apple tax built in if it was their network..... ouch
@superonyx lol @ loyalty tax
@shoman24v AT&T absolutely sucks in some urban areas but in small town USA it is pretty legit. 1.5-1.8mbps down is standard and service is good.
And average weight of adult US citizens go up by 50%. Ouch!
Who cares about ABC
Finally, AT&T's new slogan makes sense! Streaming higher quality videos?
Rethink Possible.
3G streaming works well and looks great im shocked it looks good.
Hell yeah. ABC is the shit. All other asshole networks take note.
1,000,000 ipads sold, 212,000 downloads of the ABC player app, cross-reference that with the number of ipad users who read engadget and that warrants 3 posts on this in a day?
really?
engadget.com/exclude/apple is a go....
Nice, now I can see Claire Dunphy and Gloria Delagdo's killer bodies anywhere!
