ABC said to have 3G-compatible iPad app on the way
We had a pretty clear indication that a 3G-compatible ABC iPad app could just be a matter of a relatively simple fix, and it looks like that is indeed the case -- Silicon Alley Insider is reporting that ABC has already submitted an updated app that adds 3G streaming to Apple for approval. Barring some unforeseen issues, that seems to be all but assured, and it will presumably function much like the Netflix app by knocking things down to a lower bitrate when you leave your WiFi comfort zone. Still no official word from ABC on this, but we'd suggest keeping a close eye on the app store if you've been craving some Dancing with the Stars on the go.

@neeko18 Don't some "unlimited" plans on cell networks come with a 5 gig cap? I know Verizon is one of them.
@xolan99
This is AT&T and not the evil empire Verizon. Unlimited is unlimited not 5GB unlimited.
@assb10yr ive gone over 5gb on verizon many times , ive never been cut off or charged.
Good news I guess, but you better be on the unlimited plan. I just signed out for $15 plan and already 25Mb are gone after half a day of super light usage (no video). Yikes...
I think this just goes to show the severe limitations of the data throughput capabilities of 3G right now in the US. Why would you even want to stream video over 3G when it's going to look like utter crap? Having a 3G iPad may be good for web surfing and e-mail but that's about it. I can see it now, you pull out your iPad to show someone how you can stream TV shows over 3G and then they see the quality of how they look. They will be disappoint....
@SBrooks I typically get around 1.4 Mbps download on my iPhone using 3g. That's enough for acceptable video streams even on the larger screen. The issue is the bandwidth is being intentionally choked. If I jailbreak my ipad I will install 3g unrestrictor. Works great on the iPhone. It tricks apps into thinking you are on wifi.
@JimmyBoy
You'd think people here would know that.
I hate how MS and HP killed their slates. God dammit! I mean come on, where is the comepetition? Joojoo (lmao) isn't even up to the task. Notion Ink Adam is not here yet (I hope appl doesn't buy them out and make them kill it lol). We need competition, we need something to say "what an iPad can do, I can do better." Kudos to apple for seeing the potential and seezing it with two hands!
@hero785
MS and HP didn't kill their slates. The iPad did.
@DTJ Oh please, everyone knows it was OJ.
@N900
"I plead the fif'."
wait a minute..why is apple story on here.??...apple free article my @ss...Engadget has done it again.
3g unrestrictor?
@hated one No, but I'm having trouble understanding how you remain on Engadget.
Can this or the Netflix app still stream video over a 3G network on the Wifi only pad? There's a lot of us with wifi only who use a Droid or sprint device as a mobile hotspot.
@durangojim Yes it will be full quality as the iPad will see it as a "WiFi" connection. :)
@hated one I use my laptop now only for productive tasks (Excel, Word, etc..) but for casual use like blog reading, IM, Twitter, Facebook, etc.. I find myself using the iPad.
@hated one
I know that every ipad of both models is sold out here in arizona. i waited in line at best buy for a 3g. they had 10 and only 64gb. the apple store had a huge line. showed my friend one last night. he wanted to by it today but will have to wait.
is it sad that the first thing that came to mind when i read the headline is, 'why would a liquor store need an ipad app?'
@hated one yes....some of us do work on our laptops
clogged network in 3....2...1
Well the ipad seems to be doing something right in tablet land. Yes it may be restricted in some ways. Surely the premature death of a few up coming competitors proves there may be some method in el jobso's madness though?
@hated one
No. I already sold mine before getting my 64GB iPad 3G
@hated one the dead tablet?dumb fuck
@hated one
after feature? And what tablets are you talking about moron , there have been no legit tablets out on android or wm yet.
I don't know about you guys but I really don't like the idea of a Native app to watch videos...I'd much prefer to be able to use the browser...Flash or HTML5 doesn't matter...but seriously....end of the day with all these iPad apps your gonna have like 20 pages of tiles just to use the full internet.
Poor fanboy, waiting for 1 update at a time. They must haven't heard of a netbook before.
