Apple sells 1,000,000 iPads in revolution's first month
CUPERTINO, California-May 3, 2010-Apple® today announced that it sold its one millionth iPad™ on Friday, just 28 days after its introduction on April 3. iPad users have already downloaded over 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the new iBookstore.
"One million iPads in 28 days-that's less than half of the 74 days it took to achieve this milestone with iPhone," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "Demand continues to exceed supply and we're working hard to get this magical product into the hands of even more customers."
iPad allows users to connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before. Users can browse the web, read and send email, enjoy and share photos, watch HD videos, listen to music, play games, read ebooks and much more, all using iPad's revolutionary Multi-Touch™ user interface. iPad is 0.5 inches thin and weighs just 1.5 pounds-thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook-and delivers up to 10 hours of battery life.*
Developers have created over 5,000 exciting new apps for iPad that take advantage of its Multi-Touch user interface, large screen and high-quality graphics. iPad will run almost all of the more than 200,000 apps on the App Store, including apps already purchased for your iPhone® or iPod touch®.
*Battery life depends on device settings, usage and other factors. Actual results vary.

@TrendyGuy
No, their just sending them back because their iZombies and just spent their rent money waiting in line to buy an ipad. And now that its been a month the rents due.
i use my ipad to write scripts for more terrible movies :)
Instant freaking on, does 90% of what i need done. Paid cash for two, no regrets
You know how one can tell that the iPad really is a FAIL. The majority of people posting here are actually DEFENDING it and Apple.
Stark contrast in social mood from when people here usually bash Apple and it's successful Apple products.
It will fade.
@NickEman "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see." - - John Lennon
@commonman LOLOLOL. And your point is what?
Is that some quote you live your life by?
My reality, and probably the majority's reality, is that life is HARD to live with eyes closed and misunderstanding what one sees.
So it looks like you should be replying to John Lennon, not to me. But thanks for letting me preach MY truth and reality. :)
How? Why?
Congrats apple, but that nice number doesn't make up for the missing bits and stupid restrictions for me :)
Dumbasses buying a crackpad. I cannot believe this country;home of the living brain donors!!
Sheep!
And how is this breaking news? Now if it were leaks about the new iPhone, that'd be considered breaking.
This great news... Good for apple!! The iPad is a great device!!
Waaaa waaaaaa to the haters!!
64, 1 million...what's the difference.
I think Apple reminded us all that there are different consumer demographics, in the case of the iPAD there are people who want a simple device to read and consume media without the hassle of batteries or flash cards or does this USB cable work. The iPAD shows some times the hardware has to get out of the way of the user and just do its thing. The second lesson is that a desktop OS on a tablet is fail, those who keep asking for Windows 7 on a tablet have not learnt anything from the past failures of the tablets to sell with a desktop OS on it. I will skip the iPAD personally and wait for the MSI tablet with android as I do like my hardware not to be blonde.
@MrLinux
DO YOU HEREBY SWEAR TO SPELL MAC IN ALL CAPS?
It's your duty as a hater.
Buying an ipad this weekend, so that should bring the total to over 1 million sold for apple.
BTW some facts:
1) Apple sold 300k the first day, that's it 30% of all the sales in the very first day.
2) Those 300k first customers did a BLIND PURCHASE.
now, that's i call a overhyped.
3)The Apple sold 500k the first week , that's it a average of 34k for every day (excluding the first day).
4) And during the rest of the month (21 days), Apple sold the next 500k units, a average of 24k x day. still a good number.
So, if Apple managed to stabilize the sales then they can success but, if the current trend continue (and it is the current situation) then they are pretty screwed even when the initial sales was so high.

1 million iPads sold?! Rejoice iFans!
Steve Jobs could fart in a jar, call it the iJam and people would go flocking to buy it.
I love how the ignorant call greed, marketing and low ethical standards "hating".
@Shooter McGavin
Guaranteed the iJam would have outsold both the Microsoft Courier and HP Slate by about a gazillion to one because consumers would get more use out of Steve Jobs fart than they would from any Windows tablet. In just its first month the iPad owns every Windows tablet ever made and then some. Bill Gates should kneel before Steve Jobs for making his lifelong dream come true in less than a month.
@MosesusedaniPad
All Jobs had to do was slap a 9.7" screen on the itouch and naturally all the iFans lap it up. Sorry but 1 million (if true) is still a drop in the bucket. Apple's products are driven by marketing and fans who artificially prop up their importance. Ultimately they're just more overpriced gadgets in a materialistic society.
1 million magical turds.
I'm Canadian and 2 weeks ago I was in New-York City. One night, I tought that it would be cool to go to the fifth avenue Apple Store. I went there, looked the beautyfull giant glass cube and I saw some iPad demos inside. I tried one, played with it for 20 minutes and loved the experience. The day after, I was home with the iPad 64gb that I bought the night before.
@CrypticWritings I am a nerd and I am not a huge apple fan but it got me too, its a cool device.
@CrypticWritings
Very cool. I'm buying one for my parents in June. They're gonna flip.
Oh well, I have finally seen one in action. Pretty neat looking thing I must say. While at work today, IPad user needed to transfer some online files to a non-networked machine.
Ipad user: let me plug my USB drive in. Oops, can't do that. I'll just finish reading my e-books on my 500 e-reader.
Gateway netbook user(me) Pick a USB port and plug it in and transfer as you wish. By the way, no wifi available, yes there are wired Ethernet connections that still exist.
Conclusion:
Ipad user borrows my netbook to do simple task.
Sent from my iPhone,
@Furious1
Tell your buddy to do some actual work.
"I need to transfer some files to my iPad" roughly translates as "I know we're in the middle of an Economic crisis but I brought my huge eBook reader/Portable Gaming device to work, please fire me."
What files did he want to transfer... it doesn't really make sense, iPad mainly for consuming content.
@Furious1
obviously you don't understand the purpose of the ipad considering you brought it to work, because why would you buy something like an ipad, go to work, and expect it to perform tasks that you know you can't complete with it. it seems like you are just trying to make the thing look bad.
@Furious1 Tell your friend to download the free app DropBox. It's mindlessly easy to get files onto the iPad, just drag and drop them into the DropBox folder on your Mac or pc and they're immediately available on your iPad/iPhone, no plugging in or synching required.
You can also upload the file to DropBox.com and the effect is the same. No need to install the native OSX or Windows DropBox client if you do it that way.
The lesson here: Just because you don't know how to do something doesn't mean it's impossible.
The real "iPad revolution" will be in 2011, when the iPad meets the enterprise world.
@msubasi
but Iphone is still out of the enterprise world. (enterprise world is not the same that simply support exchange).
:-/
i don't care about the ipad, i just can't wait to see whats next from apple with this device. it will be ground breaking
For what it's worth, it's clear that the 'revolution' (if that is what it is) is actually a backward step for personal computing. Remember that the personal computer revolution was all about democratisation of information and freedom? The ipad represents exactly the opposite perspective - proprietary content consumption for huge global corporations. No ability to create.
Just a thought.
In other news purse carrying metrosexuals rejoice as their ranks swell.
@TimeForTheFairTax I think you just wrote a line for an upcoming "Hitler finds out about the...ipad purse carrying metrosexuals" video on youtube. Most def.
I've so far seen 2 of these in public, both users had it on a stand and had wireless apple keyboards...
I feel like they missed the point.
I am not so sure Apple has sold 1,000,000 IPADs. What I beleive is that Apple has sent to distribution outlets 1,000,000 IPADs. This is quite different from having "sold" them. The Best Buy in my city had four of them on display and probably many others available for sale. It is unfortunate that Apple chooses to release numbers of shipped units rather than the number of units actually sold. It is a PR scam to make their numbers look better than they are.
1 million sold, WTF? I thought this country was in a recession.
