World struggles to find a reason for the existence of the Juke Boxee Box
Modders love making things really, really small -- or ridiculously large. It's arcade game consoles that fit on your bookshelf one day, and the Juke Boxee Box the next. When the interface designers at Feng GUI decided they couldn't wait for their Boxee Box, they built their own -- at five times the height. Essentially a PC, speakers, IR receiver, and monitor crammed into a wood box, this is definitely one of the more pointless mods we've encountered in a long time -- but we'll be damned if it doesn't look good! Gosh...I hope there are directions posted...this is first on my list of things to waste time on...
@Bakerdk But think of all the uses!!
You could:
Scratch your ass on the sharp point.
Use it as a stilish door stop.
Take everything out of it and make a cat house.
Use it as the worlds most uncomfortable foot rest.
And more!
@Bakerdk
Cheers for extremely dramatic title! :)
I'm excited about the Boxee Box coming out. I currently have a WDTV Live that I use to watch movies, but the Boxee Box promises to deliver so much more.
1) QWERTY keyboard on remote (I have lots of movies)
2) Wireless-N built in (very handy)
3) (Rumored) Iphone app so you can stream your movies to your iphone and not just your TV
I'm excited about Boxee Box because it makes me think about Boxxxy's Box.
I said it, I meant it, flame on bitches.
@Level 5
It's okay. You're safe here.
just what we all need, another set top box...
Boxee is so 2009. No longer interested on it.
@Center how about this for exciting. They are thinking about charging for the software.
Last year I got in contact with them and asked a question about licensing. Had a few ideas about building a boxee box and selling and what not. They told me during beta it will be free but eventually you will have to pay for the software.
Their business model does not make sense.
Get it for free for your computer or buy a boxee box?
As long as that free option is there they will not make money.
Everything looks good on paper and of course they are going o hype the product. Just wait and see how lackluster the perfomance is when you are trying to stream an HD video in real time.
@FrankDTank damn you google docs..
@FrankDTank not everybody got a spare computer.
And their remote looks pretty sweet.
@FrankDTank Well if I need to pay for Boxee software to operate the Boxee Box that's coming out, then the product is a nonstarter. But if the software will give me Slingbox-like features on top of all the features I currently enjoy on my WDTV Live, then that's something I'd be interested in.
@FrankDTank
I've seen the box demo, it works fine, so, you're wrong there. Like Ben said, not all of us have extra comps, and I've spent 2 weeks piecing out a possible cheap pc alternative to the Boxee Box and there is NO WAY to get it under 200 and still have that kind of performance. Also, as was mentioned, it comes with what is surely one of the best remotes ever designed for a media player. Eventually, yes, they will charge for some service...which is fine, cuz it will be cheaper than cable, have more selections, and it will still be optional.
You clearly know NOTHING.
so there.
.
@Bakerdk Funny. I tested the boxee box and performance wise that crap was slow. According to the presenter it was because the software is in beta but little did he know I been running boxee since alpha without the lagcon my computer.
Tried to play a 1080p file streamed. It crashed the software.
Personally after that awful presentation I would not recommend it.
To each it's own.
I have to admit though that remote control is sweeeeet. But if your basing a boxee purchase simply because of it then you have a problem.
When the FRICK is Boxee Box coming out?! I can't wait any longer!
@colbymcclain Seriously! We heard about this back in January and nothing has been even mentioned since. I don't want to hear anything more about this until it's a release date.
@UberLaff haha I hear ya! Originally they said "Late March" well I have news for them, its MAY! I did Tweet to them asking but they said still no idea on release date and that things look good with D-Link. FINGERS CROSSED! I bought this crappy Acer Eee PC that struggled playing content. Mac Mini was the best but I sold it and I was wondering if Apple TV performed well. If so, I might buy that.
the Junk Boxee Box? What?
My shins are terrified of that thing.
when the HELL is this thing coming out?
