Dell Aero slips though the FCC, ready for Q2 launch
With FCC approval out of the way it looks like the Dell Aero is all set to meet the leaked Q2 launch goal. Sure, we've already seen a generic Dell Mini 3iX (model V02B) pass through the FCC with AT&T (Canadian Bell Mobility, Telus, Rogers) bands back in November. But today's Mini 3iG (model V01B) sports 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, UMTS 1900 / 850 support, and the undeniable "Aero" marketing name destined to grace the first of many Android handsets made by Dell (uh hem, Foxconn) to be sold Stateside. For whatever that's worth.

If I am going to get an Adroid phone... EVO all the way!!!!
@8bit
ATT i wish i could Bitch slap you so bad... I'm sick of these lame ass Androids you keep giving us when there are so many better ones out there. I hope to god Cellular South hurries up and releases the Desire. I'll be on my way and i'm planning on taking as many people as I can with me...
Yawn. I just want the streak
Somehow, i just don't see Dell being very successful in the mobile phone market....they should stick to PC's
@Stevenk
Shit they need help making those... Dell PC's and laptops don't hold up like they use to. And pray to God you don't have to call their CS, unless you can speak other languages
Still waiting for a phone that has these features:
- Android (or WP7 if some serious changes are announced)
- At least 3.5" screen with good touch response.
- 1Ghz Snapdragon.or better.
- Physical keyboard.
- Ability to play 720p with decent codec support,
- HDMI out.
EVO introduces some of these features, but physical keyboard is kind of a must for me.
The more they wait to launch Streak, the more they are killing it! Dell, man-up!
@Engadgeteeer
Agreed. I hope they don't nuviphone it.
-
Note to Michael Dell: It's already been a couple months, & it's still not out yet.
@ChristianTexan Dell openly admitted fear of iPad and delayed the streak launch by 3~6 months. Yep, they are going to nuviphone it cos' 6months from now the streak can well be outdated by faster processor, better hardware...
@Engadgeteeer You go on like Dell have something to sell already but are holding it back out of spite? When something is delayed it is generally because they can't make it not coz they won't. Nice renders and fake-otypes just get nerds to cream their pants. Real artists ship...
@capnbob66 The CEO himself (or ex?), Michael Dell flashed the phone saying couple of months way back in January. Dell repeatedly demoing the Streak is indication that the hardware is finalized, not sure about software but that is part of a hardware life cycle - release the hardware, then fix the software more like the original iPhone.
Dell is either waiting for carrier deals or is waiting for iPad hype to slow down which sure will around iPhone 4's launch.
And oh, Dell is a real artist btw, just waiting for the $$$ deals!
Does it run Flash?
*ducks*
@drange
The camera! The camera!
*(ducks too)*
God,I love FCC
AT&T you say? Pass.
@Pickaxe, you seems to have asking a lot. Anyways if that happens again it definitely will be a treat for us all .
I think there are four phones in this series the Dell Thunder, Dell Smoke, Dell Flash and Dell Aero. It will be intresting to see what they are capable of doing after all they all have Google Apps.
@jamesclayton Tho Aero appears to only run Android 1.5. Very 2008.
@capnbob66 Thanks for bringing my attention, but i am interested to see what will they do when they have the Google apps.
@david1984 Not really like Apple at all. More like HTC. They are making devices, both phones and tablets, that will be running Android AND WP7. They don't particularly care about the OS as much as they do dropping some nice hardware and making sales.
@Darkseider
Well, comparing this Dell thing I see here to HTC phones makes me think they will fail miserably. Maybe *if* they cared a little bit more about the software they'd stand a chance, right now they lose to HTC on hardware (and software too btw, Sense is great), and they will lose to Apple on the OS and user experience. And now the other PC guy (HP) has WebOS, so they'll lose there too.
Dell has absolutely nothing distinctive that will make them succesful in the smartphone market.
@drange
How do you know it has subpar hardware when Dell has yet to release ANY phones?
@drange Also:
"Dell has absolutely nothing distinctive that will make them succesful in the smartphone market."
Streak, Thunder, and Lightning would like to disagree.
slips though should be slips through.

@BigJayDogg3 A bunch of inanimate spec sheets and renders that may be obsolete by the time they ship are talking to you? Do you live in the land of Toy Story?
AT^T is really being a bunch of dumb asses. Look at all these great phones for other carriers. VERIZON. HTC INCREDIBLE LG ALLY, that's two powerful ANDROID DEVICE. SPRINT HAVE THE HTC EVO fastest phone on the market to date, & DROID ERIS. I'm getting very sick and tired of AT&T the way they choose their shitty phones First the gay ass Backflip now this Dell? DOES DELL EVEN KNOW HOW TO MAKE PHONES? Sorry no thanks I have their crappy PC anyway don't want to deal with that. I'm giving them till JUNE to come out with a FULL POWER ANDROID WHICH I DOUBT OR I'M LEAVING PAYING CONTRACT BREAK PRICE, MOVING TO SPRINT OR VERIZON. F U AT&T! you have the weakest marketing strategy ever. Really pisses me off.
@Inspector Gadget80
LOUD NOISES!
@BigJayDogg3
Did you even look at the pictures of this thing that are floating all around the internet? It looks like crap, like the cheap, creaky, plastic crap that almost all Dell laptops are made of.
This phone sucks.
