Bacteria creates Bluetooth SNES controller, makes smartphone gamers drool (video)
We recently checked out the Game Gripper, which quickly turns a Motorola Droid keyboard into a gamepad, and when it comes to simplicity and cost it doesn't get much better than that. But, it isn't quite the same as a real controller, not like this creation from Bacteria, creator of many a wonderfully hacked console. Here he took an MSI BGP100 Bluetooth GamePad and stuffed it into a classic SNES controller shell, enabling all the buttons except, sadly, the lowly Select. It's all demonstrated in a thrilling video after the break that features action, gameplay, and nearly a minute of screw-turning excitement. The best part? He was hired to do this, meaning if you ask nicely (and write a check) he might just make one for you, too.

"Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this ..."
@skyblaze
+1 for the reference.
Can't wait to use this on my SNES iPad
@skyblaze
Baby baby ugh!
@skyblaze
50 inch screen with the green leather sofa !!
@skyblaze
This would be perfect for the HTC EVO 4G!!! put it on your desk at work, with the kickstand! And connect the controller via bluetooth! AWSOME STUFF!!!
@skyblaze
Got two rides, a limousine with a chauffeur
@Shadegate 50 inch screen, money green leather sofa
This is beyond fantastic.
I foresee a day very soon when your phone is your home console. It'll stream the video to your big-screen, and wireless controllers will work from the sofa.
Nice!
Great idea too as the original is less than gainly.
A BT game pad adapter that allowed "regular" game pads to simply plug in would also be 100% awesome.
should have put a rechargerable battery in it, have have it charge with usb
how am i suppose to input my infinite lives cheat for contra without select? i can't get past the 2nd level with just 30...
@noxipoo
select was for 2 player...
@FNG
fine you got me, i have no friends. *sniff*
This build, while nice, seems like crap after watching the other guys nas build.
Those are some damn hairy, greasy hands...
@mboudreau
You are on a tech-site. Just reminding you...
MY DREAMS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED ! ! ! ! ! !

Wow that MSI controller is mad stupid.
Who designed that shit? Friggen crackheads lol.
You've got to be kidding me.
This morning I was dreaming about the Dell Mini 5 and then I started reading up on Android fragmentation (wasn't really sure what it was) and then I was wondering if I would miss a tactile keyboard and then I looked to see if there was a SNES emulator for Android and then I looked on ebay for a bluetooth game pad and came up with the MSI BGP100. I wondered if anybody had hacked it into an SNES controller and came up with the same video. I looked to buy the MSI cause I have done hacking like this in the past and I wanted to make one but then I thought I should wait until I finish renovating my house and wait until I actually ditch my Treo 650 for a Dell Mini 5.
@Joshs Red Pants
Thanks for the recap of your morning... I think.
@Joshs Red Pants
Damn you Engadget. I thought this thing was behind me until your little post "reminder." I just ordered MSI BGP100.
Wow, bacteria in my devices usually just leaves ugly dark residue...
Well this is AMAZING!
No Select button? Guess I can't play Batman Forever! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Forever_(video_game)
@esposimi
The link you provided is wrong...
@JordanClay http://bit.ly/dt5dm9
it's an AVGN joke. http://www.gametrailers.com/video/angry-video-screwattack/37368
Wow. One of these + an emulator on a Sprint Evo 4G (with HDMI) output hooked up to HDTV will be AWESOME!
@legacy
Sorry gotta do this. Or you could buy an old snes and play it the regular way. And still use your evo to make calls or surf the web. But having the option to do that on the evo is awsome.
@Gavin M Gotta agree with you there.
Android driver for the MSI controller is here:

costs $9.99, http://sadtrombone.com/
gyahhhh! Viewpoint for Neo Geo!!

You can also just use a Wii Remote.
@milrtime83
Yea... I already am able to connect my Wii remote to my PC through bluetooth. And with the new Classic Controller Pro, I can play a variety of games with it.
@milrtime83 The only problem is that you have to have the wiimote as well if you want to use the classic controller, which would be preferable for use with emulators of certain consoles. If only Nintendo would have made it usable standalone. It would be the perfect controller for most emulators then.
Shoulda used thin ribbon cable. This thing is messy.
Are there any Bluetooth controllers for smart phones? It would make me take playing games on the iPhone much more serious if they did. I can care less about the touch experience. It works for the DS, because the DS has a d pad and buttons.
Actually, that controller is going to me. I was the one who commissioned him to make it for me, and as many of you assumed, it will be used for emulation on my smart phone (Nexus One: Rooted + Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 + Pershoot OC/UV Kernel)
I mainly intend to use it for SNES and Genesis emulation.
Good job though there is a much efficient approach
