ComScore: Samsung edges out Motorola in US mobile market share
Well, it doesn't look like the news is getting any better for Motorola these days --- ComScore's latest report finds that the company has slipped from its top spot in US market share among mobile OEMs into a virtual tie with Samsung and LG, with Samsung edging out Motorola by just "a fraction of a percent." They're followed by RIM and Nokia, who are now in a tie for a distant fourth place at 8.3%, and Apple, which is said to have a five percent share. Of course, these stats are just part of a broader report, but the rest of the results are a bit less surprising -- Verizon and AT&T are virtually unchanged in their position as the number one and two carriers at 31.1% and 25.2%, respectively, and the total number of subscribers in the country now stands at 234 million, of which 63.7% send text messages, 30.1% use a web browser, and 28.6% use downloaded apps.

Motorola keeps on shooting itself in the foot...first they lock Milestone...then they decide to taunt Google...then they hire a bunch of _icks for their customer service...etc.
I mean, they INVENTED the cellphone...C'MON!
I still like my Droid though...
@kapanak
The stats would have been worse if Droid hadn't come along. Droid literally brought moto into the scene again!
Hello, Moto!
@kapanak No kidding. I love my droid but that's the only phone in Motorola's arsenal that I'd even look twice at.
Where is the hot Apple pie?
@mianmian lol nice
Also surprising that Nokia is on this list. Didn't know they were popular in the States.
@ai4281
That's because no one talks about those phones anymore that people buy to simply make phone calls. It's always smartphone here, smartphone there although they count for only 16% of the sales worldwide.
??
So Apple has 5% of the mobile phone market and 16% of the smartphone market and somehow the media thinks Apple owns the mobile market. What am I missing?
@scfyi
Wait til you see the revenue share charts!
Anyway, Adobe should be happy. Flash will be allowed to run on phones by the top #5 phone manufacturers in the US.

"Flash will be allowed to run on phones by the top #5 phone manufacturers in the US."
For that you would need to look at the smartphone market share. I'm sure that looks quiet different.
@scfyi
Yes you are missing something. Their is only one iPhone on one network. So Apple having even 5% market share only three years in the market with one phone an one network pretty remarkable. How many different BB's are there? And they are on every available network.
@Baustin
One iPhone? 1G, 3G, 3GS, 8GB,16GB, 32GB, Black, White etc...there's way more than one iPhone.
@MikeMc
So true.
@hated one
I total disagree, I see tons of Motos here, esp Droids. And Blackberrys way more plentiful then iphones where ever I go.
@hated one
You're probably the same kind of person who looks down their nose at someone who doesn't own a car that costs double someone's yearly salary or doesn't get their jeans tailored...
As someone who owns an Apple iPhone 3GS I can attest to the exreme usefulness of a smartphone, but I don't think I've ever belittled someone who either chose not to spend that much on a phone/data plan or couldn't afford to do so. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Nokia has 8,3 % market share. Wow. I thought they already disappeared judging from all the comments I see here. Same market share as RIM?
How the heck is SAMSUNG at the top of the list?
They haven't released a good phone in years!!!
The Galaxy S is still vaporware at this point.
Seriously, how are the #1??????????
@Johnny Rockets
If you sell the most phones, you have the largest market share. It is pretty straightforward really.
Go Samsung! Koreans eat American companies (and small pets) for breakfast.
Really? I find that surprising since Samsung phones usually suck by comparison.
@crichton007: HP is the #1 PC vendor.
Where are the statistics about the market share of Smartphones ... Or did Apple give a bag of money to Comscore, so we can not read anymore about the growth of Android-Phones, eating away market share from the iPhone?
Samsung phones are horrible.
