In Italy it will start from 499€, instead of 479€. SCANDAL
@otozuz Your VAT is 20% !
@Atkins
And more than that, we have a plus tax for every GigaByte every device we buy has.
Not quite sure why people on gadget blog so obsessed with financials.
This numbers really tell more about marketing and consumer mentality then a quality of a product. @London.. will you hate your iPad if it sold only one piece and this is yours?
For me it's not a good fit, even if it sells 1 billion units.
For god sake there is people who watch "Rock of Love IV" and they probably in more then a million.
•64GB WiFi-only €679
Well, you can order it right now (US import), but for €995.
I guess I'll wait...
I dont get one thing.
Why dont people go on ebay and buy one and ship it to Europe (there are some that will ship to Europe)?
I mean, quite honestly, if you take the $ and exchange it to Euros, it will probably be cheaper than to get one from European Store...
Just Saying....
@cornelp
Warranties and support, You ship it internally and you get none of those. If you get a lemon, you just blew $500 for nothing. It also needs to be activated by iTunes as far as I know.
@ounkeo
Hmmm, OK. I can see the warranty and what-not, but I believe you can activate it anywhere. You dont have to be in US to activate it.
@cornelp Customs taxes it when it arrives.
Pretty pleased with my £499 for 16gb off ebay 3 weeks ago now!
@Hidd3nFury
Until it breaks....! Do you know if you can register it here for Apple Care or a warranty. I considered doing this as I hate not having the new gadgets, but I was concerned about the warranty purely because of the battery side of things. If the battery goes, they will exchange the unit as you probably read on engadget. How are you finding it anyway? Cant wait to get mine!!
*cough* gouging! .. that 3G netbook looks better all the time with this pricing ..
Orange's data tariff's seem reasonable - £2 per day (200MB cap though). That seems great for the odd occasions where you might want to use it or be away from a WiFi network.
£15/month with unltd. WiFi access is par for the course too - O2 need to announce their prices now.
Hey I might get one for my birthday! May 28th..
I will give it about 5 minutes before jailbreaking :D
WHAT!?!!? IRELAND IN JULY!?!!?!?!?!?!?! WTF APPLE!?!
479 euros!?!! It's not an astronomical value, but considering what this device really is (except from magical etc...), i wouldn't pay more than 250-300 euros for it...I will wait to see how tablets will evolve in 2-3 years and then i might get one, (when Apple will have some serious competition around and mostly, serious prices. I really hope that this product will get into every house, but currently it's really expensive for what it can do. (I would expect 64gb and a simple and immediate way to connect hard dics).
@Bobot
Kindle DX also 500 dollar...
@Bobot In Vancouver, BC it's gonna be $700 (including 12% tax), that's $200 more than the USD price with an online purchase. The CAD $ and USD $ are pretty close to par thanks to the crisis. But I would spend more money just crossing the border getting it in the states due to duty and taxes at the border. there is just no way around it -_-
This is going to lift Europe out of the stock market failure. It better.
@fast
Sorry, the only thing revolutionary about the iPad is Apple's ability to sell it.
@rmcray08 ...you telling me the markets are going to tank?...dang it. I need to listen to loud music now.
In our face. Greetings from Czech Republic.
i don't think i will be getting one in the uk, the only one worth getting is the 64gb 3g one and when i can get a macbook for £200 more i don't think it is worth it, and no im not anti apple, i have an imac at home, a macbook air and a 160bg ipod classic, i just wish i could find a use for this so i can justify buying one.
@sackthineboss
Because you want one. It is how I justify nearly all my purchases :)
Yeah about £100 more than the US pricing if you take the current exchange rate. Well can't say we didn't expect it.
@Elliot120 No it isn't. These are post tax prices. Take out the VAT!
@capnbob66 Its still more than the US. But yes your right not £100 more.
Is Cupertino under a rock?
Do they not know how to use xe.com to see what exchange rates are?
Idiots
the UK data plans don't have an unlimited option. This does not bode well for other countries.
Yeah... I don't want one that much.
LOL @ "only"
3g plans for Spain are a complete ripoff, I was leaning towards the 3g version now it's out of the question.
Small update,Apple has denied the device will be avialble in Benelux region on May 28th .
Belgium, Hongkong, Ireland, Luxemburg, Mexico, New-Zealand, Austria, Singapore and Netherlands have a July release planned.

( warning: in Dutch ,hehe )
@rik66
AppleInsider was reporting the same thing yesterday as well. This is a shame because I still have Euros from when I was working in Belgium and I go back there quite often so it is tempting to pick one up at the Euro rate rather than the bloody awful Sterling rate. Whether I do so depends on whether we have any Euros left after our Italian holiday next month...

@Kelmon
To save yourself twenty quid? I wouldn't worry that much mate!!
Some devices are useless, and some are extremely useful to the majority. In the case of the ipad not EVERYONE will have a use for it. I feel discontent with the general consensus that the ipad = a giant ipod touch. The screen real estate is so much bigger. Personally, move around a lot with my laptop and it gets annoying lugging the thing around. The ipad is perfect web browsing, reading/annotating my books, as well as multimedia when I'm not at my desk, or when I am on public transportation. I believe that there is a place for this device, its just not everyone would need. Just people like me.
But the Canadian price -_- You will have to pay $700 (including tax) in BC for this. That's just too expensive -_-.
I wonder if Denmark is even getting this thing at all. Everytime something cool comes out. They skip us. Been bugging Sony for a Sony Dash for a while :) And ebook they still don't sell.
it is a good thing UK VAT is included. Man you guys are taking it pretty hard aren't you?
Look those of you who say the iPad is not useful, really are not in a position to make such a broad generalization. The Ipad's utility, like a cell phone's is a matter of the end users need and ability to make use of the technology.
I am not sure that apple is trying to REPLACE anything, certainly NOT laptop machines. atleast not yet.
No they are looking toward a time when we do not have to carry around all of our data with us and are able to access it remotly from the cloud. Clearly content creation is not it's primary function YET. when you have a good writing application in the cloud you will be able to really write with it. when the concept of remote computing matures the iPad or somthing like it will be the defacto way to access the software as well as the content.
too many of you are hung up on the short view.
Apple on the other hand has it's eyes on the LONG VIEW. The Long View is that Apple will sell a hellofa lot of iPads. Others will come out with similar devices, our data will live elsewhere and so will the software we use to create it.
I am looking towards a future where (for example) OPEN OFFICE and ALL of it's functions are available to iPad or iPad like devices by a simple swipe of a finger. you will be able to create ANY kind of document or media that you can make on a PC except that you will never loose it and other people will be able to work on it too.
A lot of this is allready comming online NOW. This is BABY stuff compared to what we will be seeing in just a few years.
So hold on to your money if you must thete will be a better iPad out next year that you will not be able to resist.
Yaesumofo
@yaesumofo The pricing is a very convincing argument to follow the previous rule and wait it out til version 3...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH *BOUNCE BOUNCE BOUNCE* sorry about that people just sold my spare iPhone 3GS for 390 on ebay now i only have to pay £40 for my iPad *bounce bounce* not bad considering i bought that iPhone last september for it to only lost £50 of its value... haters can say what they like... Apples products retain their value and i plan to do the same with my ipad when the ipad second generation comes out next year "with almost certainly video calls" to paraphrase most tech blogs... i am off to bounce and giggle on my bed with anticipation of the much welcome news the next 20 days are going to be....tigger like! *BOUNCE*
@myky
Well done son, great to hear!!!! I am looking forward to getting mine, just not for forty quid though!!!
Sorry fellow Earthlings; looks like Apple is screwing everyone else. I'm sure the prices include VAT, but it's still ridiculous!
Well, that's more than I want to pay so it just means that it'll take a little longer to save up the money. While I was previously intending only to get the basic 16GB WiFi version, I'm now giving a 3G version serious consideration given that at least Orange (and hopefully other providers) will be offering a pay-as-you-go scheme for buying data access. I'm not intending to use it much on 3G but I'm sure it will be useful for those occasions when WiFi is not available.
Actually the pricing for Italy is:
16GB WiFi-only €499
32GB WiFi-only €599
64GB WiFi-only €699
16GB WiFi+3G €599
32GB WiFi+3G €699
64GB WiFi+3G €799

You guys, along with Steve Jobs, are frackin crazy ... £429!!!!!!!
At £329 it would have been a reluctant cash handover ... but at £429 ... sweet mother of God ... thats just an insult!
Sorry Apple but for all my portable needs Im gonna stick to my iPhone and maybe a Dell Mini 10 ... granted, a unit not as slick or sexy but a heck of a lot more flexible and £200 cheaper!!!!
Big fail GREEDY Apple!
@(Unverified)
And in the first week they sell one million units. A big greedy win if you ask me, and Apple's bank manager.....
Cant wait to get mine like another million people across Europe. Sad really isn't it!!!
