Looks like settlement negotiations in the various
Nokia / Apple patent lawsuits aren't going too well -- Espoo's just hit Cupertino with a second federal patent lawsuit, this time alleging the iPad 3G and iPhone infringe five patents related to "enhanced speech and data transmission, using positioning data in applications and innovations in antenna configurations that improve performance and save space, allowing smaller and more compact devices." Interestingly, Nokia's filed this one in the Western District of Wisconsin, a so-called "rocket docket" that's well-known for bringing patent cases to settlement or trial in just over a year. That means we could see some real movement in this dispute within our lifetimes, but we're not holding our breath for a definitive conclusion -- by our count, Apple and Nokia now have some
five pending legal actions between them, including one that's been
placed on hold pending an ITC decision. Anyone want to bet how long it takes for Apple to add another countersuit to the mix?
Nokia's Market Cap is a little over $39B and, as of last quarter, Apple has a little over $42B cash. I guess that Apple has a few options.
@PaulSorensen
No they do not. Nokia & Apple would be a terrible fit. Since Apple has shareholders, and Mr Jobs isnt the fierce ruling diva of Apple land, there is not a chance in hell they will buy Nokia.
@PaulSorensen
NOK market cap is 40,2 Billion btw
just relax man !!
Oh my god - over three hundred comments for what? For these companies it's all about business. Nokia's patents are actually bulletproof because Samsung many others have lost the battle against Nokia - Wich they settled paying a fee for Nokia. Nokia's probably using that to make some kind of similar settlement with Apple. Both companies may seem like they're bullheaded idiots, they're trying to exploit each other. What I don't get is this, Apple knows for sure Nokia's patents have been tested before in court to Nokias favour so why do they act all Tom Cruise with 1000 lawyers thinking they're above any competing company? Just settle this thing Apple pay the damn money, Nokia stop fooling around thinking you can milk Apple IP!
That's so interesting to see that Apple now is infringing technical barriers by the way its interesting to know that "enhanced speech and data transmission" has been patented by Nokia.
