webOS-based HP Hurricane tablet rumored for Q3
Shortly after announcing a blockbuster deal to acquire Palm, HP confessed that it would be "doubling down on webOS," with near-term plans to "scale it across multiple connected devices." We took the liberty at that point to assume this meant that a larger webOS-based device was at least sitting around in the rear of someone's mind, and now it sounds as if Palm loyalists may actually have something tangible to look forward to. According to an unsubstantiated report over at the Examiner, an "insider at HP" has informed the site that "a webOS tablet under the code name HP Hurricane could be released the third quarter of this year." This all lines up well with what we've heard over the past few weeks: HP pledged to take webOS to places it has never been, strong whispers emerged that the HP Slate was being shelved, and now, people close to the HP camp have given a name to a purported webOS tablet slated for Q3. There's obviously no telling if this is simply hot air being blown, but we wouldn't be shocked to see HP nail down a webOS slate in time for the sure-to-be-rockin' 2010 holiday buying season. Or maybe we're just crossing our fingers, humming aloud and praying to our lucky stars that this all pans out.[Thanks, Mike and Trever]

Hp/palm will probably be the only company that can compete with the ipad. If they do release this year, that means apple won't have that much of a headstart saleswise. The new Hurricane will have a chance to catchup and become tablet king.
@Narutogrey Depends on what you consider a head start. 3-4 million sold by the end of Q3 is a huge head start as a user base. So is a list of probably 10,000 native apps by that point, more than what WebOS currently has in a year of Pre/Pixi sales. It's no small hill to climb. HP will be taking some serious short term losses to get this going, that's for sure.
Why make a web-OS? Chrome OS anyone?
@matthewlowery You obviously have never tried or even touched a webOS device.
they better pump some serious R&D $$$ into this to get study solid build quality & form factor.
I have no doubt that the internal specs will blow the doors off bc I participated in a market research survey & interview palm comissioned by a 3rd party firm & a lot of questions towards the end of it after they asked the more open ended ?'s to not skew responses, addressed & hinted very much at their new devices would have much higher build quality restrictions, larger screen, battery size & easier access to quick swap a battery that if it was plugged in or on the touchstone would not restart. ( you can do this already sort of if you plug the charger in & put it in sleep/idle, wait like 30 sec/minute pop the battery out, put the new one in & wait 30/min before tapping the power button & you'll have a full charge & left off right where you were before.
as for the tablet, I think it will have a stylus & palm will introduce an updated version of their fabulous grafitti handwriting program!!
& no one should worry about it having a usb port. The pre already uses that. There will almost certainly be a sd card reader, as it is rumored that there will also be one on the next phone palm introduces this summer or fall. I also would think it'll have a front facing camera, bc again the next phone is rumored to have a front & back so it can do video chat like the EVO bc the new palm phone will have 4G - at least Sprint's version.
Please please please keep Palm name and their simple naming...
Lookout ipad, Steve better be putting secon gen into action soon or somthing like this will be in my backpack instead of that big iPhone without a phone, or cam, or voip, or flash, or USB hub, Simone stop me before I go on for eternity

People need to understand that any tablet that comes out with a mobile OS is going to be a bigger iPhone, pre or android. Stop complaining and accept it. What the big deal? It is what it is. Some of these devices will be tailored for the bigger screens and can be better than their smaller versions.
Hello Hurricane!
@Eternal Density AMEN! The HP Slate stuff I've seen so far is great. Two cameras, USB and dare I say...SKYPE.
