Well once the PDK goes fully live, it will be insanely easy to port any iPhone/iPad app to WebOS. So imagine you iPad will full fledged multitasking, gesture support, palm's blessing to tweak the OS and to side load custom software. To me, that sounds pretty awesome.
It'd only take one thing for me: stylus/note-taking support.

AMEN!!!! Every image/video of a (potential) tablet is demonstrating images, songs, art, movies, social networks.... I don't give a FLIP about that stuff (in a table form). Give us something that compliments our work life 8-5 and you'll sell a billion of them.
P.S. For PastorTom (assuming you're a Pastor...). Image something like this with a bible loaded and the abilty to take margin notes, add chapter chapter notes pages... Picture a thousand of these things in your audience during a church service with users taking notes.
@PastorTom The only thing that concerns me about a webos slate would be the gesture area. I'm assuming it would have to be around the entire screen so that you'd be able to use it in any orientation, but it seems like that would be difficult to implement.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
While it would take a lot to get me away from my iPad, this thing could be pretty hot.

and dont forget, totally worth it too!!! could do wonders for webOS and current acceptance of already out palm devices
@Complex Pants .. WTF are you talking about ?
It is NOT trivial to port any iPhone/iPad app to WebOS.
@taligent I think Pants is talking about this:
http://www.precentral.net/palm-demo-porting-iphone-games-webos-matter-days-gdc
And maybe this:
http://digitaldaily.allthingsd.com/20100305/gdc-10-palms-mobile-gaming-push/
Apparently some game developers (ie. GameLoft) think porting iPhone games is a cinch.

If it is that easy... maybe developers should have done that to save Palm.
#1 complaint of the Palm Pre... no apps.

Agreed. I'm in the UK and actually pre-ordering my iPad on Monday, however I can still see the potential in a WebOS tablet.
Do it right HP/ Palm and there will indeed be some viable competition for the iPad, which it needs.
@PastorTom I recently tried out an iPad and loved it, but this thing looks pretty sweet. I think I'll just save my money now
