Intel to launch Core i3 ULV processor this quarter
We knew that Intel had a Core i5 ULV chip in the works for a June release, and now PC World is reporting on an Intel roadmap mentioning the aforementioned CPU, as well as a ULV Core i3. Due for release this quarter, the new 32nm processor should reach "laptops in the second half of the year," according to Intel VP Stephen Smith. The company was mum on release date, performance, and pricing, but don't fret -- keep your eyes on this space, and we promise you'll know as soon as we do.

So, are the i3's supposed to be the consumer ULV processors?
@Fr0
Well, I've never heard of laptop-server-farms before, so I would say yes. ;-)
@Fr0 Hello, I wanted to say yes, I'll by the Hydrogen made car. I think it is satisfying for the future. For common people thaty has jobs. And, it will help with Air, Pollution. So, yes it benifits Humanity greatly.
@slee09
But please buy some new glasses first, will you?! lol
@slee09
Um....sir...I think you're commenting on the wrong article...
:P
Come on you Intel lazies, bring me that i7 ULV... I want my UL30Jt already !!
@markolic
@thoth I think you should be banned because you do not fill the essential cerebral requirement of writing a comment since unrelated and random talk is (sadly not) illegal and some men don't have sense\ some have even less. 95% of the time
@Fr0
look at all the intel laptops upgrading to i3 and i7 while im using my old celeron m processor
@kitsune
Okay since the comment I was replying to was erased I now look like a moron.
My lap is crying tears of joy.
@Colours ...or sweating under the fury of my current i5 processor. You never know.
@Colours O.o You might want to reread your post...
What's a ULV?
@Aziz S
ultra low voltage...
@Aziz S AZIZ, LIGHT.
@Teslanaut
YMMD - not sure how many people got your joke these days ツ
@Kabe Who wouldn't?
So what is faster; the dual core processor or i3? I bought a dell 1545 in march im just curious
@Mike Vick
Depends on the dual core you bought. On paper, they're about the same but the i3 would obviously be the better choice when it came to power consumption. I think that if you used a i3 processor based laptop and compared it to yours, you probably wouldn't notice a difference.
@PBB
This is the info on its processor line..... Intel® Pentium® Dual Core™ T4400 (2.2GHz/800MHz FSB/1MB cache)
how does this compare to i3 because im not too techy. I also have windows 7 home, 4gb of ram, 250gb hdd. what do you think of my system?
@Mike Vick The i3 is going to be the better processor especially when it comes to battery life but as far as performance is concerned it all depends on what you're using your laptop for. If it's just basic web, mail, word then I doubt you'll notice much of a difference like PBB mentioned.
There're many factors to consider but the short of it is I doubt you'd see a large performance increase compared to what you have.
i1
@MattsZ Perfect. Make it cheap.
@MattsZ Possible rebrand of the atom?
@Oli D no, that cant even compare...
@summerboy18
lol fail
@summerboy18 HA. But onto something realistic, m11x.
Who is responsible for that absolutely horrible photoshopping on of the Core i5 logo.
m11x please.
@summerboy18
lol macbook air was and is a complete joke.
Typo in the first paragraph.
I hope these things come out in time for me to get a laptop for college. Sure, core i5 ULV laptops might be out by then, but Core i3 ULV should be cheaper.
@summerboy18
Probably because it has no relation to the article. Like 90% of your new one. And now mine too. :P
@juanvaldez
I hope they wait until i7 ULVs see the light of day before upgrading M11x...
A nVidia card with DX11 and Optimus would be nice too...
The Core i3-330UM can already be found in the Acer 1830t.
@summerboy18
Thanks for sharing.
I like Apple as much as the next guy (I have an iMac, iPod, and an iPhone) but people like you perpetuate the myth that all Mac users are rich, arrogant hipsters.
@DoctarPeppar I disagree, it gave other laptop companies some incentive for making better, cheaper and thinner ultra portables for us.
@summerboy18 You made me lol, no hyperbole.
@summerboy18
you mean the x300 right?
Great, maybe now we can get rid of those wimpy Atom's. This is perfect for netbooks and thin clients, oh excuse me I mean "cloud computers"... Stupid kids, like you act like you invented mainframes or something, get off my lawn!!! lol
@summerboy18 You mean highest end *by apple*.
@summerboy18
Do they sell non-portable netbooks ? dumbass
@summerboy18
Yes you are correct you are to be having the highest end, thank you please.
So when are we finally going to start seeing Ion/Optimus in these thin-and-light notebooks? I seem to recall nVidia saying the new Ion would be fore notebooks as well, but I have yet to see it... and I'd much rather get a 12"/13" thin-and-light than a netbook.
picture of i3 logo at least LOL
I truly hope dell picks up the CULV i3 and i5 processors and drops them in the vostro v13 by July 2010.
On MacBooks, they all get great battery life. On Windows laptops, the ones that have high battery life all seem to have ULV processors, while the rest have 2-3 hours. What's up with that? Does anyone but Apple have laptops with great battery life?
@cloud858rk apple slow down the cpu, because they know macusers mostly just using it for web browsing , facebook, no serious work and definitely no gaming involved.
@summerboy18 You are a tool.
Written from my MacBook Pro
Are these processors really any better than the dual core processors they're replacing or is this all a bunch of fancy marketing by Intel to make you buy more of their marked-up processors?
