Motorola MT810 Ophone to sport both capacitive and resistive digitizers, makes TV cameo
Remember the Motorola MT820 that got leaked in China last week? Well, for some mysterious reason it's now adopted a new name -- MT810 (but with the same codename, "North Sea"). According to IT168, the tipster isn't exactly clear on whether the two model numbers refer to the same hardware configuration, but a quick search on the Chinese regulator's database reveals just MT810, and that it'll work on China Mobile's TD-SCDMA network and WAPI (China's own take on WiFi). Going back to the latest leak: we're now learning that the camera will capture 720p footage -- apparently a first on the Ophone platform -- and a minimum of 5-megapixel stills, accompanied by an LED flash. As for the flip cover, turns out it also serves as a capacitive touch layer, while the screen underneath is coupled with the good-old resistive digitizer -- ideal for those who prefer writing Chinese with a pointy stylus instead of a sausage. Sadly, the tipster's still mum about the cover's rumored 3D filter capability, which would in theory go nicely with some live soccer on the phone's CMMB mobile TV capability, as teased by a recent commercial on China's national television -- video after the break, if you can bear the jealousy.

"No matter how big of a soccer fan you are, you just can't sit in front of a TV forever. However, I can watch TV whenever and wherever I want, and I definitely won't be missing any quality footage of the World Cup.
Watch the World Cup whenever and wherever,
TV in your hands, TV on your phone."

GUYS!
Someone just opened then came out of a wormhole in my room! The guy is tall, thin and says that he is from the year 1999. He is asking for this mobile phone back asap.
He is totally serious.
@Saad
Is he the one that told you that using that line would make you look cool too?
God I love the Moto-Ming design, it's a gigantic chick magnet!
lol
@Saad
Someone from 1999 predicted capacitive screens would take off but wouldn't be that great for handwriting so they wanted a phone with both screens in one handset? Amazing. You should take some tips on the stock market from that guy if he's that good at predicting the future
Why? This seems dumb.
When your language has thousands of commonly used characters, it can be easier to input all of them by drawing rather than typing. For which resistive touch screens are still more ideal.
@hollis
Looks like this screen goes both ways.
Looks a bit too retro
and what's with he two screens?
looks like nintendo made it
the "shake with car" guy is totally idiot, Translation from source video title.
I guarantee that, cuz I am Chinese.
I still don't understand what this thing is...it's..confusing..
@TheSunman89 its a phone for china ne
@TheSunman89
Which one? If you are talking about the "Motorola MT810 Ophone", which is the thing with a screen and a flip cover in the photo, it is a phone.
might be a winner for china but not here ... now the lenovo lephone were to come stateside might be a different story ...
The Ophone OS is China Mobile's fork of Android, so this is basically an Android phone. Android 1.6 is Ophone 2.0.

Captains log Stardate 1999.
If they have to use two different types of touch screens, they blew it.
Motorola needs to just keep it simple and innovative
That phone looks like an old Motorola Krave thats been updated with a few new features. If thats the case there is no reason to get excited about this phone.
Actually, I had this idea some time ago - capacitive flip down screen over resistive for stylus use (look again and you can see the screen on the left is see-through). I don't see what's so ancient about it.
Motorola MT820 is the first 3D Phone without 3D Glasses in the world.
iPhone can't make 3D Phone, right?
Motorola already release Motorola Droid and Motorola Milestone with Video Recording with HD Quality (720P).
How about iPhone? Not yet?
Motorola soon end of year 2010 will release Motorola mobile phone with Video Recording with Full HD Quality (1080P) and 12 Mega Pixel Camera.
How about iPhone? Not yet?
Don't forget people, that china needs hand writing recognition resistive screen for many more letters then alphabet to input.
And resistive screen with stylus is more precise for this job, then capacitive. So it looks to be made for Asia region.
@hated one
Are you drunk?
@hated one my droid replaced my iphone as a phone and mp3 player
go away
@hated one
Or his iphone sucked so much as a phone, he decided to get a Droid.
@hated one
How old are you? You talk the same crap everyday. So you love your dads iphone, good for you. Now put it back in his charger and go to bed it is a school night.
Because release to China. Motorola MT820 absolutely support hand writing recognition resistive screen and capacitive use finger or stylus. Can watch TV (off course iPhone cant do this). iPhone technology always late than Motorola technology.
This time not to make your ownself confuse when you want put MP3 / music to your phone like iPhone must use iTunes first and only put music if the PC / Laptop have iTunes.
