Dell rolls out compact, inexpensive WM311 wireless mouse
It may not be quite as sleek as a Magic Mouse or as button-happy as the WarMouse, but we're guessing there's plenty of folks looking for something just like Dell's new WM311 wireless mouse, which is compact, decent-looking and cheap. Running just $30, the travel size-friendly mouse promises 1000 dpi optical tracking, packs a nano USB receiver with "concealed, fold-up storage," and is available in your choice of black, red, white or blue (each of which sport a black base and a glossy finish). Hit up the source link below for a closer look, and to get your order in if you like what you see.

Magic mouse anyone?
@Malmo
no... WM311 wireless mouse.
@Malmo Just because it's white?
@geeeman89
if it only has a touchscreen he will probably call it an iPhone...
me want...
@SoyGood
Why would you want a glossy mouse? I've never liked the way they feel in my hand.
This is the mouse I have now and it's hands down the best I've ever used:

The question (as one of the commenters there pointed out) is whether this is going to interfere with your 2.4 gHz wireless network. A lot of wireless mice and keyboards do.
@Pot Belly Pig
Agree. I have the Anywhere MX, it's great.
That darkfield tech works fantastic, tracks on glass perfectly. I have yet to be able to stump it. I'm sure there's a way but I havent found it yet on any surface I could find.
pretty nice. I can't wait till BT mice are in this price bracket though..
I don't understand all these non-bluetooth wireless mice. How is it cheaper to make their own wireless dongle than to just add a BT chip into the mouse. What a waste of a USB port and having this stupid dongle sticking out of your laptop.
@Sc00tz
I'm happy for you if yours works, but for most other people blutooth mice suck. I've owned a few different ones over the years (and as recently as 4 months ago) from MS and Logitech, and each one has to many issues for me to use. My co-workers all share similar complaints. If they could iron out the problems with the lag (mostly but not the only one) than maybe they could sell more of them.
@Sc00tz
I agree with admlshake. I've had two bluetooth mice and one keyboard (kb and 1 mouse from logitech and one from microsoft). While both of them work *most* of the time, they're powerhungry and difficult to work with on certain machines, especially if you need to access bios or other pre-os interfaces. It could be I had a bad motherboard or a bad bt card in my laptop, but I'm tired of pulling out wired accessories whenever I need to do some dirty work.
As for this mouse, I don't understand why its newsworthy. It's a basic, middle of the road wireless mouse. The only way I'd consider this cool is if it used Logitech's unifiying receiver. That is DEFINITELY awesome tech. I have it installed on three machines at work and two at home. If someone doesn't start selling laptops with it built in, I'll probably put a receiver inside my next laptop myself.
The issue with non-Bluetooth mice and keyboards is their potential to interfere with your wireless network, because it seems like they're all on 2.4 gHz also.
@Information Central I'll give you a cookie if you can tell me what frequency Bluetooth operates on...
@Sc00tz I agree, the bluetooth on Apple's Magic Mouse feels fine, for daily use anyway, dunno about gaming. Then again, a daily mouse is very different to a gaming mouse.
I definitely think bluetooth is the way to go, why use up another USB??
@Realityism
I don't know, because I don't use Bluetooth either. It may very well be the same.
Uhh... Déjà vu? I swear I remember this from before.
Logitec makes the best mice around, they are comfortable and functional. Mouse should be comfortable and easy to use................not a fashion item.
@Sea Urchin
yeah, i got a simple corded logitech mouse, no frills, works great...
@Sea Urchin had logitech g5 (the original rust color) and upgraded to the g500, they are definately the best mouse company.(razer imo is also very good I just dont like the feel)
When did $30 for a mouse become inexpensive?
@Papytendo And not only this, it doesn't have a back button either
@Papytendo Exactly.
am I the only one who doesn't care for this kind of design? I'll stick with my asymmetric logitech mouse
This will look nice with Cheetos dust and Mt. Dew all over it.
Looks like if I want to control my system with my voice or brain with any precision anytime soon I'll need to develop it myself.
I'm so sick of touching things!
(that's what she said... I know... sigh)
I'm guessing they picked white as the main color for the, ummm, late night computer video watcher....
@admlshake
idiot, it dries clear.
I would consider it if it was bluetooth-enabled.
would buy
I'm in the market for such a device and impressed how difficult it is to get one that meets these few simple requirements:
- Bluetooth
- At least 3 buttons (Scroll wheel should be a real wheel)
- Normal size, no tiny or smaller ones
What is it with manufacturers that keep pumping out these things with proprietary dongles etc.?
30 bucks? inexpensive my ass
I can get a mobile 4000 for under 20
comeone is it a slow news day?
Funny how a 30 dollar mouse has much higher end tracking than the much more expensive Magic Mouse.
@Nitesh In what way is 1000 dpi optical "much higher end" than 1300 dpi laser?
Hey I just opened an Optiplex 780 that has the wired version of this guy with it.
Hey, it's only $25 in Canada! Yay for saving money!

I can't believe this was actually deemed news-worthy.
A mouse??? its not even made by apple, what going on here??
Willing to try it out!
Why so few bluetooth mice? If Apple is anything to go by, they are not just for geeks.
...and why is this news?
Dell mini 5 or GTFO
Umm, I've been using this for a while now, and it's pretty awesome. Not sure why I need to buy just a mouse for the same price as a combo...
@xdaikatanax Wow: the Engadget comment system sucks ass. This is what I meant by saying "this" in my original post (with seemingly no way to edit, hence the repost):
