Panasonic's autofocus fixin' DMC-GF1 / GH1 / G1 firmware updates now live
Aunt Fran out of focus? Bay Bridge a little blurry? Statue of Liberty a bit soft? If you're having these issues with images captured through your Panasonic DMC-GF1, GH1, or G1, your fix is ready. We're not seeing any surprises compared to what was previously said to be included, but no surprises is usually a good thing when it comes to firmware updates. Each is a little over 2MB in size, and you can get your downloads rolling at the source links below.

Thank you! Now time for new camera!
Engadget,
It'd be really cool if you start covering SLR cameras/reviews/specs/rumors etc (like what you do for smartphones). It'd be great if you cover at least the big names like Canon, Nikon etc... and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested. And I think DSLRs do satisfy any definition of electronic gadgets, don't they?
I know you do cover them every now and then, but if it were as extensive as smartphones, you'd definitely gain yourself a new breed of fanatic readers! :)
Just a suggestion! Would be really happy if you consider it.
@who said what I think if you look at the number of DSLRs on the market compared to the number of smartphones, PMPs, laptops, and etc. out there you'll see that we actually provide a higher amount of coverage to them than to most other types of gadgets. We have a lot of photo-minded folks on staff who follow this stuff very closely.
@who said what
The camera world doesn't quite have the same turnover as the cellphones/laptops/etc, so it makes sense that it would get less coverage. There are some very good dedicated camera sites (dpreview.com), that do cover cameras exclusively though.
Article is a little misleading, as by following these news, I guess this firmware comes in to support the new Olympus lenses, e.g. the new 9-18mm lens.
"Improved AF (auto focus) performance with lenses of other manufacturer"
I need to look for something similar for my DMC-ZS3.
There aren't enough improvements to warrant an upgrade really. They couldn't find anything else to improve upon?
If you want a firmware upgrade that really does something significant, keep an eye on this hacked firmware project: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=206788
I have had this Camera since February and I have taken great shots from moving vehicles, hanging out of Land Rovers (Safari) and with my plain old shaky hands and I have found the camera incapable of taking a bad picture when in full auto mode. I have taken sunsets, distance, closeup and everything in between. I *may* apply the update but the primary focus (pardon the pun) of the update is with third party lenses none of which I have. All of my Panasonic lenses have worked flawlessly without need for the update.
