Apple promises to fix iPad WiFi issues in future software update
Not satisfied with Apple's previous "fixes" for those pesky WiFi issues with the iPad? Then it looks like the folks in Cupertino have you covered, or will soon -- the company recently updated its support document on the issue to say that "Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update." Interestingly, Apple also now suggests adjusting the screen brightness if you're experiencing the problem, which is a fix that was previously discovered by some users on their own but not recommended by Apple. Still no ETA on that software update, of course, but you can find the rest of Apple's troubleshooting suggestions at the link below in the meantime.

@malexandria1 Your words:"Wait, so Apple goes out of its way to shun responsibility and blames all of the 3rd party routers as the problem (even though no other wi-fi devices, including other Apple gadgets, were having issues).." You never said you were talking about YOUR own issues. If you meant to talk about your own issues you should have been clear about that. It would have saved both of us some arthritis in ten years. I hope the fix from Apple takes care of your problem.
@hated one
You have a shopping addiction, you know that? No joke. That's a serious problem. I feel sorry for you.
When a company is saying our product is not perfect yet, there is a problem but you say, "No no no, I don't care about problems, make your faulty products faster so I can get one" than this is not reasoning, it is an OBSESSION! Think about that.
I know I'm supposed to either post something really clever insulting apple and it's users, or on the flip side, post something about how Apple can do NO WRONG and anyone who has had issues must be a noob or an Apple hater. But for what it's worth, here is my experience with the actual issue of the post. I have experienced wireless issues on two different routers. One was the Verizon Fios Router (home) and the other was a Belkin wireless N router (work). The verizon router was constantly dropping my connection and often forgetting all security settings in the process, prompting me for a user name and password, and the belkin was not allowing me to connect at all. I have had some success implementing fixes that have been suggested with both routers like different types of security or MAC address filtering etc. I still however am having issues with both routers dropping the connection from time to time. I love the product, but feel the problems are obviously a big deal and need to be addressed ASAP. Blaming the routers is just goofy since no other device I own has trouble connecting to these devices. If I run in to the issue elsewhere I cant very well say "excuse me but can you please show me to your router, I need to make some changes! Glad to hear Apple has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix. Again it seems like an issue Apple should have worked out by now for sure, but I guess thats the price we early adopters some times pay. In addition I went back to the Apple store and they replaced my ipad with another with zero hassle, but I'm still having the same issues, so it seems its likely a software issue. Overall it's worth it in my humble opinion. And to my earlier point... I read these sites every day, multiple times a day, for years now and it still shocks me how many fanboys and haters frequent these websites. I would expect more fanboys of Gadgets and Technologies themselves. Even some of the worst products or companies often have interesting ideas, form factors, features, etc.. I just don't get it??? Maybe it's just the comments? I don't comment often myself unless I feel I have something helpful to add, so maybe thats it???
@electricfx "I know I'm supposed to either post something really clever insulting apple and it's users..."
And I stopped reading.
@Atkins
I assumed i was supposed to be offended by that. But after checking out your previous posts, it actually looks like we agree on things. The purpose of my post was simply to express my feelings on people posting those I hate apple messages, or apple rules messages, with no other value other than being a extreme fanboy or hater adding nothing to the conversation. Its just getting old is all. And secondly just to provide my experiences with the device and wifi issues in particular since that was what the post was about. Certainly did not mean to offend. You seem to be one of the good ones, sorry if my post was worded oddly.
Apple PROMISES.....FAIL
Wow. I've read a lot of Engadget threads but I've never seen one quite as insane with hatred and disgust as this one. Yes people have reported problems with the Wi-Fi on their iPad, Apple suggested workarounds, and after further investigation Apple is now saying the problems will be resolved in a future software update. How is this different from what just about every company does? It's certainly no worse than Google, which admitted to Nexus One reception problems, promised a fix, then changed its mind.
I understand being upset, especially if you own one which is not functioning properly, and I understand the rivalry and the tech-blog strain of Apple hatred that's going around out there, but this has gone well beyond the normal give and take of the tech rivalry and entered the land of the absurd.
For what it's worth, my wife has used her iPad on WiFi at our house (on an Apple router), at several coffee places (which I assume doesn't use an Apple router), and at various places in the hospital where she works (which again I assume doesn't use Apple networking products), and it has worked fine. Reception is no different than our iPhones, as far as we can tell, although that just means that it works throughout our whole house like the iPhone does. But of course, I won't pretend to assume that my experience is representative of everyone's experience, just like I won't assume that the reports of iPads with WiFi problems means that Apple has screwed up big-time.
@OldNewOne It's Apple, it gets coverage. Surely there is no excuse for the problems on a device that I would hardly call 1st generation and on which one of the primary functions is using the Wi-Fi.
But people suddenly forget the many problems that other companies have.
All the apple hate lately amongst the ipad wifi issues, Android outpacing their growth....
It's....
Magical.
@SeeKo Or maybe he doesn't care about Wi-Fi issues, because not everybody has them and just want to play with the only tablet of this kind on the market? :)
