Verizon confirms it's working on a tablet with Google (Update: Android!)
Not much by way of detail here, but Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam just confirmed that his company is working on tablets with Google in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. Unfortunately, that's all we've got to work with at the moment -- McAdam said tablets are "part of the 'next big wave of opportunities,' but didn't say what OS the Google devices would run, just that Verizon's "looking at all the things Google has in its archives that we could put on a tablet to make it a great experience." That sounds like something Google's been working on for a while, so we'll take a guess and say it's Android-based, but we wouldn't be surprised to see a Chrome OS tablet or netbook make the scene at some point in the future. We're also wondering who'll build this thing: any number of companies from Dell to Toshiba to MSI have already started working on Android tablets, and we're sure HTC and Motorola would totally jump at the opportunity. A nice crisp confirmed fact wrapped in layers of chewy speculation -- just how we likes it.
Update: Bloomberg scored some more details in an interview with Marquett Smith, Verizon's VP of corporate communications; the tablet is said be Android-based, and more details will be released later this week. Let the wait begin!

@assb10yr Really? Copy Apple? You mean make a true multi-tasking mobile operating system? Deliver said OS on devices that far exceed anything the iPhone could ever hope to be? How about deliver a complete mobile web experience that supports both HTML5 and Flash? An open app store that allows the market dictate what it wants as opposed to an approval board? Yeah I see what you're talking about.
@AndroidGuy right.. I am sure it was just coincidence that all these touch screen devices started showing up after the iPhone.
@Bluefyre Inspired by and copied are not the same thing. No smart gadget geek will, in his right mind, deny that Apple changed the game...but are you saying that no one should play the new game because Apple brought the ball?
Should all other cars still go 6 miles per hour because one car went 60mph first?
YES MY DREAMS COME TRUE!
Nice! I am so excited for this.
Let me guess. This is the iPad killer right? Just like the Courier, JooJoo, and HP Slate. Oh wait....
How about they just put 2.2 on a Norton Ink Adam, call it the Nexus Tab and call it a day?
What makes you think Dell is going to build it? Everything in those leaks they had was showing commitment to AT&T in the US, much to my dismay.
Will it be the NEXXUS TOO?
What app is that in the screenshot? I have uverse and having that interface on my phone would be amazing.
Boooo!!! Two BS companies coming together to create more BS.
@assb10yr
And one BS fanboy spouting nothing by BS. Shocking...
Well, it's nice seeing an Android tablet being more concrete than a bunch of prototype vaporwares.
However, on the other hand, on Verizon? iPads are going to be available worldwide, and the 3G version too. Why would one want a tablet that is locked into 1 provider and 1 country? Even worse, this will probably require 2-yr-contract. It will be a super expensive tablet in the end. We already know Verizon is not going to cheapen their monthly fee looking at the Kin.
