GPS, Garmin nuvi 295W like a bolt from the blue, bearing email, camera and WiFi (video)
Ever heard of the Garmin nuvi 295W? Neither had we, until the GPS showed up spontaneously on Amazon. More Garminfone than PND, the device features the same 3.5-inch touchscreen, 3 megapixel camera and Garmin UI as its call-friendly counterpart, but without the front buttons, 3G data connection and subsidized price. That means you'll have to hoof it to a hotspot to send email, perform Google Local Search and upload geotagged photos -- all of which this unit can do -- but at least you'll have a dedicated GPS to help you get there. $280, available May 16th, see it in action after the break.

What a brick!
@hero785
+1
@pappla Thats what she said.
@hero785 They keep adding not needed features in order to drive price up. How about making simple GPS unit that costs $70? I don't want mp3 player, bluetooth, camera, can opener and lighter in my GPS!
too late now.........for the price, I will be getting EVO 4G!!!
@Tony Montana
I am drooling for an evo 4g. Gimme it, HTC, GIMME IT NOW.
@Tony Montana
The EVO hasn't even been released and my iPhone feels lonely.
Actually, its been crying in the corner for a while.
@Tony Montana Comparing apples and oranges are we not?
For the price of the two year Sprint data plan for the Evo 4G, you could probably buy 5 or 6 of these things.
The Garmin is a dedicated GPS sat-nav, which maps stored in the device. I believe Android based devices make use of Google maps for sat-nav capabilities. No network coverage and Google maps is rendered useless for navigation.
@mukatuna
Its an iTouch + Garmin GPS built on Android. For those that don't want to pay $30 for a data plan everymonth. It looks like a decent NAV device.
Just keep it simple, it's not like people are going to read emails while driving or take a photo of a deer while driving.
@hero785 "read emails while driving" Oh yes they do, I've seen many a Blackberry owner guilty of this while at the wheel. Also people taking photos while driving. Some drivers have been prosecuted for watching movies on laptops and DVD players while driving 40 tonne lorries.
Some GPSs actually have a lockout function which disables non relevant functions, if the GPS senses movement of the vehicle.
I like the design for some reason or another... but I don't need a GPS now...
Good gadget. Not all of us want expensive data plans.
so its a garminphone spare 3g radio?
no complaints here.
80$ more than EVO4g and it has technology that was in phones 3 years ago. /me lawls
@DoctarPeppar Well with the Evo phone, one is paying a subsidised price for it, and one is committed to an expensive 2 year long contract. Not so with the Garmin, as it's NOT a mobile phone.
The nsubsidised price of the Evo would be significantly greater than Garmin.
Garmin who?
@pappla
wow just stop android fanboy
@account5
nice try i use webos
piece of junk...Garmin please just stick to Navigation system..thanks.
@pappla: it IS a navigation system. LRN2READ
What''s with Garmin putting a crappy 3megapixel camera into it's sat-nav? Are they playing the 'me to' game?
I see some people making comparisons to the Evo 4G mobile phone in this thread. Why? This is a sat-nav and not a mobile phone. It can't make phone calls, and nor is one stiffed with very expensive 2 year long contracts.
@mukatuna
It's people who haven't read the post properly.
What's the worst day in history to release a new phone
Evo day!
@yulebellow FYI the Garmin is NOT a phone, ergo one can't make phone calls with it. It's a GPS sat-nav with Wi-Fi capabilities and a camera, nothing more.
Didn't the last Garmin phone suck MAJORLY? Why make another one?
Garmin, you're good at standalone devices, stick to those.
@SiriusBlue Its not a phone...
The shit got shittier..
rofl... yes a camera on a GPS. Just garbage.
This is most assuredly a Garmin nuvifone G60 (AT&T) without a modem. Not many were sold.

Ughhh... Too little to late. With the iPod Touch around the corner with a built in camera and GPS which one woulD you buy? I know it might not happen. Data plans suck.
