LG's $100 Ally crashing Verizon stores on May 20th, pre-orders start tomorrow (update: now with specs)
We had a hunch that LG's Android 2.1-based Ally would see its first customers on May 20th, and Verizon Wireless has finally opened up and confirmed as much this morning. The Iron Man 2-infused smartphone -- which we spent some time with yesterday -- will be available in all VZW stores beginning May 20th, with pre-orders going live for phone and web customers tomorrow. We've already given you the rundown when it comes to specs (they're after the break for those with memories shorter than their shoelaces), but now we're able to confirm that it'll sell for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate and a new two-year contract. A well-specced Android smartphone for under a Benjamin? Not bad, LG.
Update: Nothing in particular to write home about, but LG has just unveiled the Ally's nearly complete spec sheet. [Thanks, Rey E.]

@Tes
For this post and posisbly shutting him up finally, I give you +10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
It looks like my Samsung Impression. But I love LG products so I would give it a shot if it were on at&t or tmobile
When winphone 7 comes out, I wonder what will happen becAuse they gonna be competing against each other. Actually that why there so many android phone, there trying to get a head start against windows phones
@hated one
The ranking of your comments fall faster than iPhone's market share.
Hated One... making sure that "iPhone" is mentioned in every Android article ever since TheRogueFFAngel was banned.
zeee design is not the yellow from the egg
Super ugly phone this LG. Please Nokia, release your N8 soon!
For the price I think this phone is pretty nice. Id choose it over the droid.
@InfDaMarvel
Is the price the only reason you'd take it over the Droid? It seems apart from that the Droid has this device beaten in every single category.
@Tes
Ive seen the driod and it just doesnt do anything special. The only thing special that it had was Andriod.
@InfDaMarvel
I'm not sure what you mean by "do anything special". Are you talking features or looks? Most Android phones have pretty much the same feature set. Phone, photos, music player, GPS, sat nav, email etc...
What else were you expecting?
It just seems odd to take a phone that does EVERYTHING another phone does...but slower.
@Tes
I bought my Motorola Droid new for $75. So I don't know what this guy's talking about.
@beatsandmelody
And Im sure some people got theirs for free. Your cool.
@InfDaMarvel
No need to get defensive. It's just you said something that was rather strange on the face of it and now it seems you don't seem to b able to give a valid reason for it. I was actually sure you had one and was interested to know what it was, but given the opportunity to clear it up you only decided to engage in some snark with someone else.
You basically said, given the option of two phones running the same OS, therefore with the same features, you'd take the phone with the smaller screen, lower megapixel count camera, less memory and slower processor. All I wanted to know was why.
@Tes
Sorry, I dont find the Camera the impressive at all on the driod. So both phones arnt going to blow me away with picture quality.
The Ally has a better keyboard compared to the driod from what it seems.
And the normal consumer doesnt care about what processor a phone has, they care about the performance. I believe the processor is good enough for solid performance.
@Tes How in the world does the Droid have a faster processor than the Ally... Qualcomm MSM7627 processor running at 600MHz v. Arm Cortex A8 550 MHz Processor??? o_O Maybe I just don't know processors but ... not more powerful
@hybrd
thats true too, I knew the driod didnt have a snapdragon processor or anything.
The marketing department made a mistake with the simulated image on the phone.
1) 2.1 doesn't have those 4 persistant shortcuts.
I always thought that weird looking app drawer button was 1.5/1.6 but the only 2.0+ phone I've seen was a Droid. I would assume the Incredible has a launcher similar to the N1. So it might be two mistakes.
Weak looking phone. Don't see the appeal of physical keyboards really.
@TangledThorns
I'm pretty old school I guess (even though I'm 22). I actually like this style over like a droid eris....
how is the kin 2 supposed to compete with this? It has a bad quality 8mp camera, thats about it.
Not a bad price for a solid phone, just not for me.
AT&T users would kill for this mediocre Android phone compared to the craptastic Backflip
At&t users would kill for a mediocre android device such as this compared to the craptastic backflip
At first, I see an LG featurephone. Then I have to tell myself that this is actually a smartphone... still, not bad for the price. Better than the Droid if I am thinking correctly. Better than the Pre Plus... I doubt it. And I would definitely go for an Incredible. $100 more dollars in the span of two years for a better phone is worth it.
