"In order to provide the best experience, HTC EVO 4G will use Sprint's industry-leading Everything Data or Business Advantage Messaging and Data plans that include unlimited Web, texting and calling on the Sprint Network to every mobile in America with Any Mobile, AnytimeSM. Everything Data plans start at $69.99 per month. A $10 per month Premium Data add-on will apply allowing customers to take advantage of a richer data experience than ever before."
Awesome phone, I was going to get one after I broke my T-Mobile N1, but opted to get a AT&T N1 instead. I don't want to wait for HTC/Sprint to approve/release Android 2.2, 2.3, etc and I can't fool around with custom rom's on my work phone.
If nothing else I hope this phone helps Sprint keep customers from the iPhone 4.
@Physicsguy89 Actually, they are keeping the69.99 everything data plan, it's just a ten dollar addon for the evo. Engadget was just too stupid to read the PR.
@Physicsguy89 Engadget should actually spell out this is after a $100 mail-in rebate, though I do find this to be an excellent price, it's also sub-par reporting.
@Physicsguy89 Will the $10.00 premium apply to those who live in a 3G only market? I wouldn't mind paying it in a 4G market but I live no where near a 4G area. If I only get 3G and have to pay the premium I'm going to be hella-pissed.
@clocker Me and My girlfriend have nexus ones on T-Mobile..we pay 70 dollars each 1000 minutes unlimited text and web..we both plan to buy EVO's...you guys think Sprint will offer a family package for the phone??
well they work on the basis that if you travel to a place that has 4g your gonna use it. because it is a cell phone meaning that one day you might travel somewhere and use that 4g service. i would like it if they did it like a roaming charge, like if you ping a 4g tower then you get charged for it. or give you the option to turn 4g off and not use it, but with it becoming the standard who would do that and why would they give that option. just my lil rant.
also i think the evo will kick the iphone 4 & 5's a$$.
@vqro Just download PDAnet. It's USB tethering (but then you're charging your phone, rather than draining it, so for one device, it works great), and the free version will do anything but https sites. The paid version will do anything, for a one-time $30 fee. I used the free PDAnet on both my G1 and Droid before I rooted them and put WiFi Tether on, and never had a problem. It's one of those hidden jewels of the Android Market.
My advice is do not pull out one of these EVO 4g devices in the hood my dudes.. Livin in the NYC hood you finna get robbed.. Nobody want the iphone anymore. Pull out this bad boy and u finna get ur wig split. My lil homies in the hood would tear u apart for one of these!!!
@dcoaster 240 more in the contract... not too bad, the phone is worth 440$ if you ask me... but i was really hoping that the wifi thing would be free...
@Physicsguy89 $10 more a month for 4g sucks.dan hesse promised that 4g would be free.he's a liar.im going with the droid incredible.i don't trust sprint anymore.
@Angelworks I agree, I was waiting to get the EVO and switch to Sprint from ATT. I only pay $70 on ATT b/c I use Google Voice so texts are free anyway. $10 extra mandatory is ridiculous (even though I am in a 4G covered area), especially in this closed test case if they only got 4 Mbps, where I can get 3.1 Mbps on ATT 3G for just $70.
@Physicsguy89 I have a clarification question. Does anyone know how this $10 extra charge applies to family plans? i.e. Will it be an extra $10 (in addition to the $20 for unlim. data/sms/mms) PER line, or rather will it be an extra $10 for ALL lines? Would appreciate feedback if anyone knows...
The device is aimed at gamers and TV watchers, generating a 3D image with use of a pair of 0.7-inch OLED panels, which each display separate images, doing away with the ghost imagery that often comes along with 3D displays.

@Physicsguy89 Screw You 4th Gen iPhone!!!!! Evo FTW!!!!
@Physicsguy89
This phone actually is making me consider switching from my cool SERO-500 $30 plan to a $60 EPRP plan.
@Physicsguy89
From the press release:

@Physicsguy89
Same here or I'll just stick with my n1.
@BigJayDogg3 $10 Premium Data?! YUCK!
@liftedngifted1
Is this gonna be on the $69.00 plan??
If so, excuse me while I write a letter to Jobs it goes a little something like this.
Dear Mr. Jobs
'Your product now sucks! There's no sex in them anymore!'
@Physicsguy89 PRESS RELEASE: http://newsreleases.sprint.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=127149&p=irol-newsArticle_newsroom&ID=1426178&highlight Voice + Data in 4G coverage!!!
@dcoaster
It's still cheaper than verizon and at&t 3g data plans, dude.

@BigJayDogg3
Just read it. YEY!!!!! Too bad about the 4G add-on though. Oh well, I don't live in a 4G area. Hopefully they'll set up some towers near me soon!
Yes so excited for the 4th, for this bad boy I'm willing to pay for the premium
@Physicsguy89 Engadget should actually spell out this is after a $100 mail-in rebate, though I do find this to be an excellent price, it's also sub-par reporting.
@Ryan1000000 That's, ermmm, marketing speak. Street speak means its a 79.99 everything plan now.
@Physicsguy89
Will the $10.00 premium apply to those who live in a 3G only market? I wouldn't mind paying it in a 4G market but I live no where near a 4G area. If I only get 3G and have to pay the premium I'm going to be hella-pissed.

@Joe the Plumber
In response to myself.
Sprint 3g/4g unlimited, unlimited talk/etc/etc, mobile hotspot(5GB 3G, unlimited 4G): 109.98
Verizon 3g unlimited, unlimited talk/text/etc, mobile hotspot (5GB): 129.97
Please don't make this out to be expensive on sprints part, it's just not factually accurate!
@Joe the Plumber i know right?! O_O
@Myst3ry
*HIGH FIVES*
*BUTT SLAPS*
...and the ball is back in play...
@Physicsguy89 i hope xda finds a way to port this firmware to the hd2
@Physicsguy89 i hope xda finds a way to port this firmware to the hd2
@Physicsguy89 I realized something today. CHATROULETTE, ANY TIME, ANY WHERE. fyeah
@clocker Nope, you add it to your plan if you like, but its not mandatory
@Physicsguy89
you can. It's only 10.00 more if you are in 4G markt and want to use 4G.
Is the mobile hotspot plan compulsory as well?
@Physicsguy89 *** I am literally crying here ***
@Physicsguy89 its 69.99 plus 10.00 media add on plus 29.00 for data hotspot add on.
@DirtyVegas
The Hotspot fees ($29/month) are NOT compensatory. It clearly says "optional" in the email I received from Sprint today.
@Joe the Plumber
I think the $10/month is for 4G "Premium Data" access. Which most people don't have. So making it mandatory is really shady.
@BeeDavis is ther any need to bum jobs on every comment STFU
@liftedngifted1 If Sprint can't pick up a LOT of customers after this, the network is doomed. This is most definitely make or break time.
@JonnyB
You sir, are a raging douche.
"In 2010, Sprint expects to launch 4G service in multiple markets, including but not limited to..."
That's hardly a promise of 4G service anytime soon, much less by EVO launch.
@Physicsguy89 This may be a dumb question but I'm gonna ask because this phone looks pretty damn sweeet...
Will I be able to tether just one laptop if I don't get the WIFI hotspot plan?
@EdwardCullen
Hmm,
Yeah I guess when "Steve bums HTC, Google & Flash" it isn't in anyway "Bumming" Android.
Get real you sparky vampire you..
@clocker

@jaffreywali I was going to get an Evo 4G and move away from AT&T, but the mandatory 10$ for 4G when it isn't even here has made me shy away.
So yes - Sprint is doomed.
@Physicsguy89 my hero is going on ebay......now, eff waiting for 2.1
@BigJayDogg3
Extra $10 surcharge a month for a 4G speed that has yet to be proven. Nice.

who say iPhone killer??? Wooootttt wooooottttt
@Ryan1000000
$10 for an epic phone with 4G that will kick the iPhones ass...WORTH IT!!!
@Physicsguy89

@iPhooey
Sprint it already selling 4g overdrives. Ignorance at it's finest.
@iPhooey Yet to be proven? Dude WiMAX is already deployed in 37 US cities. If fact it got huge praise this year at CES in Las Vegas.
@dcoaster

Same here! I dont live and rarely go anywhere 4g. Looks like i may go to tmobile for the N1 instead.
